Arennord Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 (edited) So I have been looking through the wishlist forum and haven't found any topics on this in the past 4 or 5 years. Is ED planning to add the recording feature any time in the future? From my limited understanding on how they would program this, I don't know if it would be possible to capture the FLIR video feed and output it to say a MP4 file for it to be used in briefings and so on. It may not be very useful right now, but I think that, when DC shows up, it could be very useful to send a reconaissance aircraft to scout a zone and grab some footage using the FLIR, so we could attach it to our briefings. Of course, I understand that this would be a low priority thing in the development cycle, but it would be an interesting feature for sure. Edit: It wouldn't need to be a super high resolution footage, as the camera on the aircraft itself does not display a very good quality on the MFDs, it would be enough if we could just get that footage and extract some images from it. That way, we could also avoid cluttering the hard drive too much. Edited April 3, 2024 by Arennord 2
Foka Posted April 3, 2024 Posted April 3, 2024 I suppose recording MP4 would be to CPU heavy. Even F-15E doesn't record video just screenshots every second (or 5 secs?). But if you really want to record TGP you can do it - export DDI to external screen and use OBS or similar software to record DDI's exported screen. It works. 2
Arennord Posted April 3, 2024 Author Posted April 3, 2024 (edited) I didn't really give it a thought on CPU usage, but it could be done in any other format or, as you say, images. Is that function that you mention natively implemented in the F15? Anyways, I'd like to know if ED has given some thought to this specific matter on the F18 @BIGNEWY, as I'd like to have it officially supported but, for the moment, I will give a try to your suggested workaround, I appreciate it, thanks @Foka! Cool, I didn't know about it, don't own the F-15 myself because I'm not really into double cockpit aircraft, but it's a nice feature, and it's even better if it's simulated in DCS.
fagulha Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 (edited) Agreed! A video exporter like in the F-14 Tomcat from HB, and the possibility to save a few secs only (like 30 secs to save disk space) so we can use the video image later for debriefing/briefing or target intel.
