Is my Mosquito bugged?

Hi guys!

Owning the Mosquito for 3 weeks and I still feel completely disappointed. I tried EVERYTHING, from training missions, forums, concerning control and setting of throttle, rpm, temperatures, etc, and the same tedious thing always happens: it loses speed, height and finally crahses on the ground, even in the free flight instant action. I´ve read in the forum that someone in the past had the same problem and  he solved it by uninstalling and trying again. I tried it too, with no positive results.

Well, now I'm thinking my Mosquito has been cursed by damned gremlins (or bugs)!!!

Thanks for your attention!!

Description doesn't give us enough data. Please save a replay track with this loss of airspeed happening and post it here so that we can take a look. The shorter the better, "free flight" mission should suffice. It's difficult to advise otherwise.

Technically speaking, a mosquito is a bug.

Jokes aside, as Art-J says we need a replay track to see what is going on. This should be some simple issue since no one else experiences this. Let us know if you require guidance how to produce the replay track file.

I tried twice to get that bird to fly.  Both times I uninstalled it.  It might be "realistic" but it's no fun at all.

Do you also give up after two attempts if you try something new but cannot do it?

I have no idea what your background with aviation is, but if you have little to no experience, you will need to invest some time into training before you can fly.

Best thing you can do is more training, and uploading a short track so people can give you more precise instruction.

And if learning how to fly an aircraft is not enjoyable for you, perhaps you are in the wrong genre of video games...

If you are very new it can seem like an uphill struggle, but you will find all the help you need here. First thing, when you post with a problem it's always a good idea to add the log file and a track of the flight, then the experts can look and see exactly what happened. It may well be a bug, for example my F-15e sometimes does this exact thing after coming out of f2 view. Do a flight today and replicate the problem and add your log and track.

The Mossie flies like any other Warbird. You need to have all the controls set up and applied correctly and learn the takeoff and landing behavior, but it is no more difficult than the others - generally speaking.

Without seeing some footage I can only make assumptions. If rpm and manifold pressure are set correctly, check if flaps, undercarriage and bomb doors are stowed. Magnetos are on?

Maybe double-bindings on the prop- and throttle controls?

Ok, just opened the instant action mission "take-off practise", took off, climbed, flew around a bit and landed.

Everything works just fine - so there is no general issue right now that could cause OPs problems.

My assumption (until we get a replay track) is, that either there are some double bindings or other reasons, that cause the propeller pitch/rpm to be low; or that the magnetos are switched off (or fuel).

Hi again!

First of all, thank you all for your precious help and advice.

I forgot saying in my first message that there is an only mission where the Mosquito seems to work  properly, namely, the gun attack training mission. There, there is no lack of airspeed , height nor power, and the plane flies "quick and happy", with the engines working as it is supposed in a Mosquito.

Now, as you recomended, I add the track & log files of a short free flight over London, hoping they are helpful for you to know what's really happening.

Most grateful!

Just took a look at your track.

Throttle up my guy! 😁

You are using the propeller rpm as a throttle and leave the throttle untouched. I think you have a misconception on how those work together.

Think of your rpm (propeller pitch) as your gearbox. Low pitch/high rpm = low gear. High pitch/low rpm = high gear.

You need the right gear (high rpm if you want to use power) and THEN stump on the gas! aka push the throttle forward.

Flying the mosquito (and other warbirds without auto-rpm) is like driving a stick / manual gearbox car!

As a rule of thumb, whilst take off or landing (or dogfighting) keep the RPMs at max. For cruise reduce them to 2400-2600

@indalo62 I‘m sorry. You are right. Just took over in your track and flew a bit longer. And even though opening the throttle does help a bit, it still slows down eventually.

Haven‘t experienced this outside your track yet. It flies as if it was pulling a drag chute.

I'm currently not on my PC but perhaps you could check the mission settings for the arcade setting (and perhaps in the mission file itself too?)

I hope somebody else finds the missing puzzle piece, because right now I can’t find it. The aircraft is in clean configuration boost and rpm show max power settings and still it slows down….. really weird.

Sorry for my quick shooting earlier!

That’s a good idea. @indalo62, make sure you haven’t put it on game mode. That doesn’t work anymore and is causing problems if anything.

Hi Hiob

You mean using first the propeller rpm gear and then throttle foward? That is what I did and the lack of airspeed and lose of height persist

Exactly, I´m a perfect beginner 😆 with warbirds

Yes, but even though. I was able to replicate your problem.

All controls are set up and applied correctly as far as I can tell, and still it keeps loosing speed. I‘m out of ideas currently.

Have you checked your game settings if game mode is applied? (disable it)

I've been looking for game/arcade mode  at the setting menu but it doesn't exit in my DCS World Steam Edition. In addition, I use to fly other planes, namely Harrier II, F15c, Thunderbolt, Mustang, and haven't had any problems

EasyFlight is the same as arcade/game mode?

Steam and stand alone are no different.

Look under the gameplay options, first checkbox under difficulty.

Or check the mission with the mission editor if it is set there.

EUREKA!!!!! PROBLEM SOLVED

So the EasyFlight option must be unmarked in the main setting menu so that the Mosquito can fly properly. This is quite important, and most tutorials, training missions, etc, miss it!!!

Thanks you all, specially to Hiob, Vladinsky, Glide & Razor+r

Cheers!!🍻

👍

Can you make a screenshot of the settings you refer to. I‘m not quite sure what you mean. Is that a steam setting?

Yeah, that is „Game mode“. Lost in translation. Glad you solved it. Have fun.
