So testing the new shockwaves.

Several 500lb bombs laded just a few meters fromxa bunch of fuel and ammo trucks. They all caught fire and after a couple of minutes they had blown up one after the other.

I found several problems.

1. The bombs should have just blown everything up(I know the frag/splash damage is getting worked on)

2. The trucks were really close so once the first one blew they all should do the same. Not follow their own timers.

3. Fuel and ammo trucks should really just explode automatically as soon as the recive damage. We know from video both from ww2 and later that it takes almost nothing for fuel and ammo to blow up. A couple of .50  cals and ammo and fuel goes boom!

4. Related to nr 3. Fuel and ammo should have far larger explosions. One way of doing this is to use the same explosions from jets exploding. It's a nice biggish fireball and would fit quite well.

Video showing how the fuel and ammo trucks don't explode even though half the jungle is shaking. (Also exploding vehicles don't make the trees move. But I'm sure that will come later.

We definitely need improved explosions

Yep, more blowy-uppy.

I can drop 500lbers right next to a tank and as I fly away I swear I can hear them chuckling.

This might be accurate for a tank. I have heard of a pilot during linebacker dropping an entire Phantom load of mk82s and seeing a tank drive away because he didn't score a direct hit.

I'm not sure about this. The vehicles may have safety systems to prevent catastrophic failure, like blast doors for tank ammo storage. And generally a random bullet won't cause a fuel tank to explode anyway. Bombs are a different story.

The ammo trucks in DCS are just trucks. Some even are just flatbed with the ammo and fuel visible.

The fuel trucks are just trucks with a giant fuel tank on the back. Incidirary .50 cal bullets will defiantly puncture and make them blow up.

Eh, might be, might not be.  Tanks are and should be vulnerable to blast and overpressure, and a 500lbs bomb could definitely do the job if it were close enough.  Much smaller HE charges in the right place will definitely kill tanks.

Of course there could be mitigating factors in favor of the tank.  Like thickest armor towards the blast, bomb partially buried in jungle mud before it went off, vegetation absorbed or broke up the blast, etc.  Maybe he had even managed to eliminate the crew but the driver died with his foot on rhe gas and it just kept rolling?  I wasn't there, I don't know, I'm just guessing.

Generally I think you see anti armor weapons like HEAT CBUs and AP projectiles used not because HE won't work, but because HEAT CBU or an APFSDS could do the job better.  More likely to get the kill, ability to bring more to the fight etc.
