So I have been tinkering with the Shkval at night and have noticed that with NVGs, the brightness turned all the way down and the contrast turned all the way up you can make out targets at night in clear weather. I ussually play with labels on but even without labels I could make out tanks and apcs at the maximum Vikhr range. The Shkval wouldn't lock on so no dice hitting a moving target with the Vikhr but I had no problems with stationary targets. I even noticed that the ability of Manpad gunners to engage me at range was greatly reduced. I tried to manually slew the Shkval to hit moving targets but it makes the Vikhr go wild and I can never score a hit. Anyone else done some night time playing?

Slewing the laser anything but really really slowly will cause the missile to fail at staying inside the beam, wherefore it will lose guidance. The "workaround" is to have illumination on the target, or anticipate where a moving target will be when the missile is nearing the end of it's flight, so that only a minimal correction would be necessary.

That said, I have only clocked less than two hours in nighttime, so I am definitely not an expert.

Nope - My Virtual Self reserves the Night for eating, sleeping, essential maintenance, rearming and briefing/debriefing and the occasional visitation to the local Den-of-Ill Repute........:P

I flew night missions and must say I am impressed - the atmosphere is really cool. When u see the Moon and u hear only your engine, blades, see dark cocpit, dark outside... and u get big portion of adrenaline trying to find something... When u do, you lock it (without solid lock of course, only move gate over target), then close to target and fire. If it is quite slow moving target you can attack it too by slewing your gate all time located over target. In LO it was easy cos u could have mouse assigned to Shkval and then moving it is easy. In DCS it is possible but by something else, don't remember.

You have flares, so use them. Better lose only flares than Ka-50 with flares.

Anyway night missions besides a good fun with much adrenaline have no sense in Ka-50 at all.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

LO, even FC, had a very simplified laser modelling as well, making it easier. ;)

Yes, I even say many things are wrong in main FC product - Frogfoot...

Anyway I always liked to move TV by mouse :D

I actually never did that... I need to get one of those microsticks sometime though and see if I can get some precision that way. I only recently got the (obvious) idea of moving the slewing from the keyboard to the hatswitch on my stick. :P

But my mouse used to be hogged up with moving the view, so moused Skhval wasn't really an option back then.

I didn't try mouse in BS yet due of not enabled option which allows it but I heard it can be avoided by Saitek software.

In FC controlling TV by mouse is really cool - you have smooth move and u decide how fast you move cursor. Same with radars ect I use mouse ^^

Hey guys,

read this in the DCS-homepage-FAQ:

Q: Will the Ka-50 in DCS: Black Shark include night operations?

A: While the Ka-50 in DCS can use night vision goggles, the current Ka-50 (real world and in our simulation) is not fitted with a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) or low light television system (LLTV) like in the Su-25T. However, missions can be set up to have AI aircraft illumination flares over the battlefield.

...my question:

HOW can I set up missions to have AI aircraft illumination flares over the battlefield?

Thanks for any advise!

The aircraft has to be tasked as AFAC and (on the Russian side) loaded with SAB-100 canisters. You can then set up normal target zones for "attack" runs.
...trying to do this but can't find any aircraft which can be loaded with SAB-100 canisters.

Using the german-boxed-version.

Could you give me a step by step describtion of what to do to place such unit please?

So I will try this and check where my error is.

EDIT: Disregard! Solution found! (Load-Editor->New->right-click on the desired station-field->bombs->SAB-100)

Hi Chip

I'm think it's the SU-34 (or SU-25/39?). I'm not sure. Set the Task as "AFAC" ("Aufgabe") and then make Payload.

Thanks for your help guys!

As written in my edit in the previous post I have found already, what my mistake was.

Now everything is working fine! I have made a small training-mission and the night-illumination is extremly cool :)

(Maybe I post the little mission later when work on it is completed.)

Regards
