I cannot test for VR 😞 Hopefully someone comes by to share their experiences.

Thx. There may be a problem, because in VR it's not that easy to click anything in 2D style (radio, LAlt+F10 map coordinates, accepting joining the crew in multiplayer, etc.), so I'm afraid it's only for 2D users, but I'll try to check it. What I miss here, in Kiowa module, is a George or Petro-type interface, which works very well in VR.

Nice work!

BTW. How it works in VR? Someone test it? George and Petro work very good in VR but here could be a problem due activation by clicks, not by WSAD keys (on HAT for example).

In VR it doesn’t show up ATM.

Any ideas?

Love the mod btw. Something definitely going to be great addition.

For the daredevils and others who are not afraid of testing new things, here is an update. After reorganizing the GUI, I plan to do the next public release.

https://github.com/asherao/KIO-WA/commit/305e13122bf5368590ae67e9db6ddc6dd118b375

  • First version of aircraft detection implemented
  • Turn fast, medium, and slow are toggles
  • Fly route and fly to point are toggles
  • Baro and radalt are toggles
  • Land command actually lands
  • Orbit command added (WIP, you'll see 😄)
  • Turn left/right and Hover drift are WIP
  • Resize button added

Got a double overlay in 2D using this ?

Any idea why?

No idea at all. Hopefully that goes away in v0.2 and hopefully you can see it in VR. I made a change that may help.

Still got the two overlays.

One in the red circle isn't functional, green circle is functional. —> issue solved by deleting every file in saved games and reinstalled version 0,2

The wheel changes the altitude, speed and heading simultaneously although the AI only follows which button of the 3 that you press after that. Would it be better to make the wheel change only the value of the button that you select? You could also make that button highlighted for example, so we know it's the one being selected for change.

How do you know the difference between a select and an order? (I also don't know how one would animate such a feature. Hmmm)

What if you move the app to the top left in 2D, and then jump in VR. Do you see it then?

Sorry I wish I could be of more assistance but I don't know how to write code. One suggestion may be to do a right mouse click to increase the value and a left click to decrease the value (for each of those 3 buttons), but have a short delay of say 0.7-1 sec before the AI acts (this allows you time to inc/dec to the desired value), and then do away with the wheel?

Creating a video tutorial on how to use the mod in VR would indeed be very helpful.

Hmmm, I can see that there may be ways for the sim to detect double clicks and mousewheel for the app. Maybe I can try a combination of those to change parameters. Maybe scroll wheel for change and click for select? Good idea.

I dont know how I would have the North Up vs Track UP reflect that though because Track Up is determined based on your current heading and changes as you change direction.

Was thinking of the scroll wheel too to change the values.
I noticed all my mouse buttons can be used to click-activate the overlay buttons. I am beginning to see the challenge in getting the overlay mod to recognise and differentiate user inputs and intentions.

It is an interesting exercise in user interaction design, for sure.

I will soon be looking into a way to order a course via the direction the player is facing. 🤞 Opening up another way of, hopefully, more natural interaction.

Scroll wheel is great! Thanks!
The dial is no longer working but is it suppose to still be there cos mine is, even after deleting the config.lua.

Mentioned in the release notes, dial is no longer implemented. Yes, it is still there. I am thinking what should go in its spot. more features? maybe a logo?

Noted ok. Some suggestions:
1. ON/OFF - Could there be one button each for AI Pilot, AI HUD and app Overlay?
2. LEFT/RIGHT for Orbit, Turn and Hover - Could perhaps be done with a L/R mouse button click for each instead of the top LEFT/RIGHT button toggling all 3. Hover here could be renamed Drift?
3. Incremental Heading - Could consider L mouse click to initiate Left turn increments from being in R turn state and vice versa. Otherwise, dialing down is still an addition to the current turn side (could get confusing) unless you dial pass 0 first.

1. AI pilot is already on/off. Hud is already on/off. I can make an overlay on/off button.
2. Sure, we could give that a shot. Yes, that Hover can be renamed drift.
3. When you say dial, you mean scroll, right? The use of the dial was removed in v0.3.

Yes I meant scrolling the value down then clicking the button 😀

I have been able to implement a Heading 2 facing direction command! Similar to George/Petro, you can look in a direction, click the button, and Barundus will turn the aircraft to that heading, plus/minus about 6 degrees. No one is perfect 😛 ! I intend to also make this a hotkey because it is not available via the AI natively. Suggestions are open of button name.

The green button will be on AI PILOT, which turns the AI on and off. Orbit will be a left/right click for the respective direction. the third column are all scroll and then left click to select. You can pretty much ignore the last row. The only thing implemented there for now is the turn rate.

kio-wa.jpg

I'm also open to suggestions of button placement.

Great work!
I think HDG2FACE / HDG2MMS is fine or you could shorten to "HDG FACE" and "HDG MMS".
