PawlaczGMD Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 With many targets in BFM, especially mixture of enemy and friendly, I struggle to pick out my intended target for a radar lock. Selecting A/A GUNS starts the acquisition in a wide boresight. This often locks up random targets in front of me. I have the HMS on, and press sensor control up to enter the narrow helmet acquisition, but by that time the plane has often locked up another target within boresight. Then when I unlock it with NWS, it momentarily reverts to wide boresight and locks random stuff again before I manage to go into narrow HMS. Is there a good workflow/switchology to lock up an off-boresight target with the HMS with other random targets that you don't want to lock in your boresight? PS - it really seems like the HMS sight should not be blinked out/boresighted when you look at the HUD. A separate issue, but this makes it impossible to discriminately lock targets in front of you. Hard to believe this is how it would work IRL.
Tholozor Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 (edited) One thing that would help resolve this is Bump Acquisition (not implemented currently), where if the radar goes STT on a contact, you can reject it and exclude it from being locked for a few seconds while attempting to acquire a different target. This often locks up random targets in front of me. Well…then don‘t select A/A guns if there is multiple aircraft in front of you! Select AIM9 or AIM120 first. It doesn‘t even matter, if you have any on your jet. Now you can use boresight or whatever ACM mode you like with or without the HMD. After you have acquired the lock you can now select the gun. vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord.
Tomcat388th Posted June 30, 2024 Posted June 30, 2024 I might be wrong but on the hmd page there a button for blink on or off that lets the hms symbology stay in focus while looking at the hud. You have this option to do not "blank" HMD when looking inside front cockpit: SUPT-> HMD-> BLNK Edited June 30, 2024 by pokeraccio Pokeraccio Forum: Pokeraccio F/A-18C Hornet - Weapons QRH Quick Reference Handbook / Checklist / Kneeboard User Files: Pokeraccio F/A-18C Hornet - Weapons QRH Quick Reference Handbook / Checklist / Kneeboard User Files: Spitfire LF Mk.IX QRH / Checklist / Pilot's Note Kneeboard by Pokeraccio

I knew about it, but I could swear this used to work differently, did they change it? Because I think it still boresighted the reticle when looking at the HUD. I have tried it today and it works well, thanks.

AIM-9X you can go off boresight, but the older versions won't follow the HMD so that's maybe what you're remembering

Today's patch (2.9.6.57650) notes indicate "ACQ Bump" in the Hornet has been added. I haven't had a chance to check this out yet.
