I know I'm gonna hear a lot of negatives with this, but, here goes: Once the Viper has been brought up to speed with what ED wants to do to it with all the systems, they should add the additional models of the AMRAAM. Regardless of year, the AMRAAM was made for the Viper because the Air Force didn't want it carrying the F-15's Sparrow. The pylon and software for the plane doesn't need changed, just an update to the C5 in a few areas: Range, radar detection, and chaff avoidance. Doesn't matter what year of Viper we have, an AMRAAM is an AMRAAM, and the Viper can fire them.

As with any thread on this topic, I will start by linking my AIM-120 variant research thread. I go year-by-year through the US Military budgeting documents to find out when they were buying, testing and receiving different variants of the AIM-120 as well as gleaning what I can about where the improvements occurred.

My research concluded that the AIM-120D does not belong on any aircraft currently present in DCS. Future CTUs of the F-15E, if delivered, will likely change this.

At some point ED deliberately removed the -5 name from the AIM-120C, a change that applies across every game file I have been able to access. The in-game model does not reflect the increased rocket motor length and the decreased rear control section, implying that either the B is modeled incorrectly or that the most modern C-X we have is either the C-3 or the C-4.

What are your sources for the claim that the pylon and software don't need to be changed?  Also what sources do you have that say that the Viper can fire any variant of AMRAAM regardless of OFP? Tapes are an area I'd like to learn more about for sure.

Corrected previous incorrect belief that the C-5 is physically longer than previous missiles. It is not, the length of individual modules (the rear section and rocket motor) where proportionally changed.

Yeah we could use them, F15s would have much greater range because of them in BVR, Viper of course and Hornet too. They tell us we cannot have CFTs even F16 can have it in this version just israel one, ok, they can fire sparrows, but because they dont shoot it, we cannot have it, but aim120s more modern versions are carried so cannot wait for their explanation now. As i see not correct time period ? Really ? So we get Typhoon with Meteors, but C7 or D is not correct ? They can just say they are lazy to do it and not talk about made up stuff.

They probably don't have performance manuals for the CFT version.

They model the weapons that the airplane could carry at that time, as simple as that.

@BIGNEWY While the F16 having an AIM-120C is correct, the post ACS_Dev linked makes a very compelling argument for more versions of the AIM120C to be added. Including the AIM-120C-7

It was mentioned more times than just then, but I can't really be bothered to look up all of the instances.

120A is a reasonable assumption as there is a completely finished AIM-120A 3d model in the game files.

As far as I am aware the model has been there for a long time, and I see no plans for it internally. I wouldn't hold your breath, but lets hope there is a slim chance.
