BladeRH15 Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 As above since latest update. Reverting to previous version cures this problem for me. The new update is extremely ugly for me even on a 42" LG OLED. I'm guessing that this is an MSAA problem maybe for AMD users, anyone else with shimmering with the new update? System specs are:- 7800x3D, 7900xtx, 32gb ram. Latest AMD drivers. Tried everything but the only fix is to revert to the previous version. 4
MAXsenna Posted July 16, 2024 Posted July 16, 2024 For me as well. NVIDIA. Sent from my SM-A536B using Tapatalk
Flappie Posted July 18, 2024 Posted July 18, 2024 Hi. Which part of the picture is shimmering exactly? Everything on the screen? Shadows only? Cockpit view or external view? Does it simply look as if there was no MSAA at all, or is it worse than that? Please send in your "options.lua" (from Saved Games/DCS.../Config) and "dcs.log" (from Saved Games/DCS.../Logs). ---

Special K was looking at this for me but not heard of a solution as yet. I still have this problem and have reverted to 2.9.5 as it's currently too ugly on 2.9.6. It's as though MSAA is not working at all in both cockpit and external views, horizontal lines in the distance are especially bad. It is working fine and looks very good in 2.9.5 I pre-ordered the SW Afghanistan map but discovered you need 2.9.6 to run it. I have tried different graphics drivers, emptying fxo and metashaders folders, emptied graphics card shaders...so many hours on this! : / Edited July 22, 2024 by BladeRH15 1
Flappie Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Have you tried AMD "Restore Defaults" option? https://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/24142 1 ---

That sent me on the right track! I remembered that my colors were all strange... And this was why. Turned it off, and all is well!
BladeRH15 Posted July 26, 2024 Author Posted July 26, 2024 I'm still cursed by this problem on 2.9.6.58056
BladeRH15 Posted July 26, 2024 Author Posted July 26, 2024 Yes, tried everything, only way I can fix it is by going back 2 updates.
Flappie Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Please attach your dcs.log (from Saved Games/DCS.../Logs) and your options.lua (from Saved Games/DCS.../Config). ---
felipesm Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Same for me, AMD RX 6700XT. I noticed a drop in msaa quality.
Harkon Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 RX 5700XT here. I have the same issue, I will try to post some screenshots later.

Flappie Posted July 27, 2024 Posted July 27, 2024 Thank you. 2024-07-26 08:50:51.412 INFO APP (Main): Command line: "D:\DCS World OpenBeta\bin-mt\DCS.exe" --restarted --restarted --restarted --restarted I'm not sure what's the story behind your "--restarted --restarted --restarted..." parameters. I've never seen this before, but I don't know what this parameter is for in the first place. It's new, and maybe it shows when one uses the new launcher. I'm wondering if this repetition has anything to do with your issue. One thing is for sure, you are running DCS MT. I didn't find any issue in your options.lua. @MAXsenna You said you had the same issue. Is that something new? Have you found a remedy? 1 ---
HR-Crumble Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 Maybe I can provide a little fresh context on this as I have upgraded from nvidia to amd in the last 48 hrs. I have gone from a 3070Ti to a 7800XT. On the nvidia card I only ever used DLAA (no upscaling obvs) - the blurring on any form of DLSS upscaling was horrendous regardless of the settings. Ghosting on external views. Dials all blurred when spinning etc. MSAA was OK but always looked too ‘shiny’ and sharp. Like overly sharp. All the panel lines would shimmer also. Swap to my AMD and it’s the complete 180 opposite. MSAA is AWFUL. Flickering everywhere - specifically on shadows (light coming through trees, shadows cast by bushes, buildings and objects) it was literally like a strobe effect. Horrendous. Also all the panel gaps, texture lines and edges on cockpit details like frames, edges of dials and mfds almost flickered and shone like white lines. I thought I would try FSR and went for upscaling 0.9 and sharpening 0.9 and it is SUPERIOR to nvidia upscaling and made DCS look really good. Slightly softer on the graphics and some of the numbers on mfds and the fonts are not quite as sharp as non-upscaling but much better overall. No more strobing or flickering of shadows. No overly ‘crunchy’ image and I have yet to see any ghosting on dials and spinning numbers in the cockpit and the only ghosting is F3 flybys and leading edges and sometimes the collision/nav lights. Anyways I hope that gives a little perspective - not sure if MSAA is currently bugged or if I can further enhance my FSR experience. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2
Harkon Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 (edited) TAA up and MSAA X4 bottom... @Flappie Edited July 28, 2024 by Harkon
Flappie Posted July 28, 2024 Posted July 28, 2024 (edited) @Harkon I see what it looks like now, thanks to your screenshots. I cannot reproduce this issue (GTX 1080 Ti, old driver: 531.41). I even added SSS. Try resetting your GPU driver settings. options.lua Edited July 28, 2024 by Flappie ---

If you want to reproduce the situation try to use the same skins with the F-16 they are a few more with the same issue. Btw, that happen with the grass too, if you're like 50 m away they become shimmery. 1

Your screen shots show the 'jaggies' quite well but the very bad shimmering when in flight even in 4k shows that MSAA is not working for some of us. TAA is not an option for me either, too blurry and very bad ghosting. I have spent many hours trying to solve this problem and I hope there is a solution soon as I'm not flying in DCS at all at the moment. 1

Flappie Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 (edited) @MAXsennaI thought this change ("RTX Dynamic Vibrance") had simply set back the right colours. So, you meant it also solved your MSAA issue? Edited July 29, 2024 by Flappie 1 ---

Tholozor Posted August 8, 2024 Posted August 8, 2024 Some part of this is also that specific F-16 livery (152d FS) has no mipmaps, leading to textures appearing 'crunchy.' A number of F-16 liveries don't have mipmaps.
