I recently DL the latest version.  2.9.6.58056.  It took over 12 hours.  The fastest DL speed hovered around 4.6mbps.  I just checked

my internet speed.  It is 622mbps.  Where else can I DL these updates?  Are ED's servers that slow?  I checked my speed before

I started the huge update 2 nights ago and it was 780mps my end, ED's speed never got over 4.6mbps.

I will miss the Silver_ Dragon's information.

Hi,

what part of the world are you in and who is your internet service provider?

Our CDN's are located all around the world and depending on your closest one the updater will choose which one to use.

Sometimes ISP's throttle downloads, if that is the case switching to a VPN if possible sometimes helps.

thank you

MR. Bignewy,

I am in the state of Washington, down a couple hundred miles from Nineline, westcoast USA.  I have Xfinity(Comcast).  I have the 1200 mbps speed.

I am also suppose to have unlimited data...so their 1.2 TB data cap  does not affect me.  I am going to call them and double  check as 4.6mbps is not

going to work.  I am wondering if that world wide data breach did something?  Closed down lots of businesses.

That might be a point to consider, this was a big thing and I'm guessing Companies/IT departments are pretty swamped getting things working/up to speed again

I do not see any more recent posts on this thread, but have download speeds continued to be an issue?
I downloaded DCS V2.9 for the first time Wednesday afternoon and evening, and it took nearly 6 hours averaging 9 MBPS on a 75/75 MBPS service.  I am not looking forward to future DCS module downloads at those speeds.  I think that Steam may have been worse on Sunday night, but I will have to check both again in the near future.
After some other problems, I did reset the router, and the Verizon FIOS tech support claimed that their test came back 79/88.  Unfortunately, their website speed test utility was misbehaving with 31/28 and timing out before I called them.

FWIW:

Almost always getting full 1-Gbit download speed.

ED is usually faster than Steam in my world when it comes to DL`s.

Same here actually. I wonder if ISPs here throttle Steam. 🤷🏼‍♂️

4 Days- downloading a complete reinstall - at the end of which 80% of the files selected for download didn't download!

4 DAYS!!!!

In what universe is this considered an acceptable level of service???

Aside from the fact that my download speed never got above 0.6MB/s (& I recognise that local factors & individual PC specs influence this) how on earth can it take ED's servers 4 days to realise that it is not able to download the files selected?

It seems to me that this is possibly THE single most permanent complaint that ED paying customers have been raising sing Day One - Isn't it about time that ED invested the resources to ensure that this permanent thorn in everyone's side is removed once & for all!

And let's be clear - other providers do not suffer from this issue, so we all know it is not something that is insoluble, it is a question of investing the time & resources to make it happen.

And it if means adding an extra few $ to the price of mods to make it happen I'm all for it - I'm just over having to endure these frankly ridiculous download times & I suspect that there will be many comments after this expressing the same sentiment.

Sincerely

Spiff

Downloading anything from eagle dynamics in a timely manor is a JOKE, and has been as long as I've been using it.  The only site I get such stupid slow download speeds is from  Eagle Dynamics.  I can Download MSFS 2020, which is a HUGE file size, and install it in the less time it takes to download anything from Eagle Dynamics. Yet their oblivious in not recognizing the problem is on their side

No problems here in Australia. Are those that are having problems able to advise where they are located, as per BN's post - they have various CDN's around the world, and since others are getting good speeds - it definitely points to an issue with the traffic between you and your local CDN. Providing your location may help ED be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with particular CDN's.

Alternatively, you could try using a fast VPN to skip to another part of the world and see if it updates faster as a quick workaround.

I almost always get my full 1 gig down. If the ED servers are getting rushed, I might see a drop in speed.

However, I don't think that explains the issues here. This sounds like an ISP or local network issue.

Same issue today and have noticed the same with the Sharepoint website when downloading individual files, but at least the projected download time went from 19 hours now to less than 3 hours.  I was hoping finally to get around to flying this holiday season and have to await a 120 Gb download.  Happy Holidays!

It is a fallacy to suggest physical proximity results in faster transfer. The internet just doesn't work that way. I'm geographically closer to Europe but it is always faster for me to access US servers because of how it is connected to the USA vs. Europe.

Europe also always under-estimates the infrastructure required, and doesn't invest in the backbone or sheer number of servers required for fast access.
