mikerally Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 when i using my rudder the heli turns automatic back in one angle how do i turn it off? thanks mike
Boulund Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Try pressing the trim button when you're at your desired heading? Jack McCoy Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 As suggested, you can trim the heading, but that'll work only if you're not in Route mode. You can toggle it on or off with LSHF-H (Heading Hold AP channel), or use Flight Director mode, which turns off any AP navigation function. i7-7700K@4.8GHz, 16Gb-3200, GTX-1080Ti-Strix-11Gb, Maximus IX Hero, Oculus Rift, Thrustmaster Warthog+F/A-18C, Logitech G940 Pedals.
JG14_Smil Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 your helo has gyros that try to hold it on the 3 axis. When you release the trim button, it will reset them to your new heading (watch the pipper on the HUD hdg ribbon). Do not turn off AP dampers. Learn to fly instead (not being a smartass when I say that... it is the bottom line to most peoples problems with trim).
mikerally Posted May 21, 2009 Author Posted May 21, 2009 ok and the trim button is on my right panel ?
AlphaOneSix Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 The trim button is on the cyclic, which means you'll need to map it to a button on your joystick.
Logan9773 Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 This is a real annoyance. When you bank right or left and then come back up, the auto pilot doesn't try to change you back. Why should it do so for rudder? The computer knows you hit rudder, then released. Therefore you meant to do it. Its not as if the heli was turned by wind or such. I'm not so sure that this is correct. More like a bug.

Kuro6 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Well, I have hell with this too. The only thing I have found that really works is to give a little bank towards where I want my heading. This is a weird thing though. Sometimes it trys to give a lot of correction, sometimes it doesn't do anything and works like it should. I wish one of the developers would please give a good explanation of what is happening. Why is it trying to go back? Like I said, it only does it some of the time, with varying degrees of strength. Sometimes you can keep it there a while and it will stay. Others, it will fight you all the way, till you just give up. Id also hope for a very good explanation of just exactly what is the difference of having the auto pilot on, and having director control on. What does the auto pilot exactly do?
EtherealN Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 To be honest, I have difficulty understanding these issues. I fly most of my time with just the three standard damping channels active and I have never encountered this severe behaviour. All I do is I trim once I reach the new heading. Kuro6, when you say it is variable in strength that sounds to me like it's variable wind effect depending on your direction of flight relative to the wind - and other factors such as airspeed and so on. Every time you change direction of flight you are likely to need a small re-trimming; the key to flying a chopper is to trim, trim, trim again, and then trim some more. Trim basically needs to happen automatically, not something you think about at all. Difference between full autopilot and flight director is that full autopilot flies your aircraft for you on a set route. Flight director indicates for you what inputs you should give to follow the route and selected airspeed/altitude etc. (Afaik, I never found the Flight Director to be very useful so I haven't used it much at all. Someone else might be able to expand/correct on that.)
