Bishop Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) Hello all, A little while ago I was playing on a Black Shark server labeled Quirks Coop. When I logged in two players were exploiting around the anti-TK system the server was using. No one knew how to initialize a vote-kick so I looked it up, because the server had servman enabled. I intialized the votekick on one of the players and received enough votes for him to be removed. I also tried the other player and the vote failed, but I figured since he had not TK'd someone in a while that I would just leave it be. A little while later the first TK'r rejoined the server and one of the other players asked me to start up a votekick, I did and it suceeded again 4/0. After playing for a while two more people join and not a minute later the TK'r I had left be initialized a votekick on me. The two new players immediately vote yes, and then one of the people that had voted yes on kicking the original TK'r voted to kick me also (I figured this was a mistake due to not paying attention). I rejoined the server after a while only to see that the three players were votekicking other players from the server that had kicked the actual TK'r. They kicked one person off, and saw I had rejoined and kick me off, both times winning with a 3/2 vote I believe. Sorry for the long story, but I was just wondering is there anything you can do in this situation other than join another server? I'm guessing not, but I would like to be sure. EDIT: Left this part out. If there is not anything you can do, is there anyway the server admin can see in their servers log anyone who is TK'ing or abusing the mechanics, and then Ban their IP address? EDITEDIT: Removed Names (Sorry about that). Thank you Edited May 24, 2009 by Bishop
JG14_Smil Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) Hello, I think policy is to not mention names in this forum. Tk'ers do stink and can ruin your good time. The serverman should boot them off for the TK's. Even though you want to throttle their little necks, you have to just ignore them as they live for making people mad and to get a reaction. If you shoot back, the server becomes a cluster of a TK deathmatch. I've been lucky and not seen any of this since serverman came along. This has been a problem as old as online simming itself :) I remember the old days of the CK beta, it became so bad that they finally made any friendly fire shoot down your own A/C. Cured it very quickly. Edited May 24, 2009 by JG14_Smil
Bishop Posted May 24, 2009 Author Posted May 24, 2009 Thank you for the response. I also have been a gamer for years, and have had to deal with Team Killers in just about every kind of game. I have just recently returned to playing simulation games, DCS: Black Shark being my first simulation purchase in years. I have been enjoying it ALOT!! This was the first time I have encountered Team Killers in this game, probably due to how great and effective ServMan mod helps on the servers. These people just found a way around the system. I wonder if they could possibly add an option for server admins that team damage itself would cause a warning and excessive team damage would cause a kick. Or as you said Immediate self-destruction on team damage. I really hate both ideas, because they ruin the realism, but so does your own wing leader/wingman firing on you on purpose heh. Perhaps it could be an option that the server admins could enable if they wish. My first post was a frustrated rant and I apologize for the lack of useful content.
Quirkitized Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) If you could PM me the names of the players that caused the problem I will see if I can manually ban them, please send in PM and not in a reply. I run my coop server from my apt. on a spare PC, and use my own bandwidth as I love this game a lot I try to help out the community, I find hosting a 8 player coop with some fun missions is nice, a majority of the people seem to have fun on the server. Servman has helped a great deal in assisting in booting TKs, I have it setup to autokick on first human TK, and autokick on 3 friendly unit kills. A ban after 3 kicks. If this mod was not around, MP experience would be a good 10x worse. I hope they add Servman to the patch, its something that could of been released with the game, its that good. Unfortunately the PC i have the server run on crashes once every 10-15hrs or so, when I see it down I'll take that time to re-adjust the way people get banned/kick. I'll try to make it more strict, as every mission I have made/installed on the server there is never a single reason why you would need to shoot a friendly, especially a helo, if read the briefings. You can infact set it to autokick players with a negative score, having already set it to autokick on a TK and friendly units I had this disable, I'll check into this option. But anyway, for the most part it does seem like things run well. Heres hoping that ED adds something awesome in the patch to make MP more enjoyable especially when your just running a fun COOP. I'm hoping for an ID system or some other ways to ban, but thank god for Servman so far :). I'm also hoping for more COOP servers, I started mine as I found at times 70-90% of the servers are password protected, or they are team vs. team. I'm a big time fan of COOP and hope players enjoy the server and I hope we will see more to come from others. Edited May 24, 2009 by Quirkitized 1

joey45 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 best bet is to join a squad, a lot of fun and more arganised... The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Acedy Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 (edited) I wonder if they could possibly add an option for server admins that team damage itself would cause a warning and excessive team damage would cause a kick. Or as you said Immediate self-destruction on team damage. I have already asked c0ff some time ago about adding on_hit() and on_collision() hooks to the networking scripts, see: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=678378&postcount=31 I will also bring this thread to his attention. Regarding the votekick: I don't think there is a way to tell via scripts if a votekick is justified or not. If there was a criterion then the votekick feature would be superfluous, because the server could just kick the player in question automatically. Votes are a means of "player self-organisation", and the idea behind votekicking is that human players should be able to judge all the complex situations/behaviour that cannot be handled easily by automatic scripts. However, votes just enforce the will of the majority of players, so unfortunately they can be abused by a group of people who want to hijack a server. What I could do is to limit the number of votekicks that one can start within a given time period, although this has the sideeffect that players may be unable to initiate a justified votekick. And it will only work against individual players abusing the votekick feature, not against groups. Anyway, if you play alot on Quirk's server maybe you should ask him if he appoints you as subadmin? You can infact set it to autokick players with a negative score, having already set it to autokick on a TK and friendly units I had this disable, I'll check into this option. This feature only works when autokicking for AI and human teamkills is disabled. flask Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 I also was a victim of being voted out, I logged on, and straight away some guy was shooting up the farp, then someone started a vote for to kick me and three or four voted me off, ( hadn't even started my engine's)
