A slider or drop down box for cockpit mirror resolution would be amazing.

Thanks.👍

P.S. Is there anyway to do it now?

In the settings. MFD resolution. 256, 512, 512 every frame, 1024, 1024 every frame I believe. So 1024 is max. That's why it sometimes looks like that brick game.

I don't think it affects the mirrors though. A similar setting for the mirrors would be good.

Well, what can I say? It does, whether you believe me or not.
Cheers!

MAXsenna is correct, the cockpit resolution affects the mirrors. The reason it probably looks bad is you normally don't zoom in so far that the mirror takes up most of the screen.

This is a comparision I have just done in the F/A-18C sat on the carrier, one is 256 resolution and the other is 1024 resolution, nothing other than that setting was touched.

This is the 256 Resolution:

This is the 1024 Resolution:

Yep, a higher option wouldn't hurt for high performance PCs.

btw: the option change might need DCS restart!

Just be aware, that mirrors in there current state already hit FPS with a ~10% penalty. Upgrading to 2048 e.g. (which I wouldn't mind as an option) would probably hit even harder.

I have always used 1024 res. I can always notice the low res. We're coming up to 2025, I think we should at least have the option.

My screenshot in the op is in 1024, I think it would be nice at least to have the option for a modern res. Must be easy to implement?

Adding my support for this idea. Mirrors hit my FPS drastically. I'd like to keep my MFDs at the highest quality (1024) for readability, but keep mirrors on Low (256) for performance reasons, rather than just disabling mirrors entirely.

I'd vote for that too. Option to specify different resolutions for different areas such as mirrors vs MFD's would be great. Even if it was just a setting in the autoexec.cfg

I'd like an option higher than 1024 also, as I decided to drop getting VR headset with RTX5090 I have spare room for increase graphics quality and mirrors are good option. I was looking for a file to edit to add extra resolutions but I can't find it (don't know which file does it, if anyone from ED knows please let me know?).

@Kuky In the options.lua, you can set 'mirrorsResolution' to 4, which is presumably 2048 (as 3 is 1024). On my system this does dramatically improve mirror resolution; the only downside is that whenever you go into the graphics settings menu after this, it resets it to 256 ('0').

Thanks for the tip however I don't see mirrors resolution an issue for me as now with new MiG-29A module mirrors look good even at 1024 settings but just for the heck of it I will try this out also 🙂

Can't the options file be hacked so option 4 is available, just like Ultra Shadows?

Interesting. I guess perception of mirror sharpness is probably related to game resolution; I run 7680x2160 on a 57" ultra widescreen monitor and even at 1024 the mirrors in the MiG-29 looked really jagged and blurry. But the jump to 2048 made them look almost as sharp as the rest of the cockpit for me.

I wasn't aware that was possible, but it would be great if it is! Hopefully someone who knows posts here.

I honestly can't tell the difference between option 3 (1024) and 4 (2048)... maybe in other aircraft (like in FC3 MiG-29) it makes a difference, have a look at the 2 screenshots with the 2048 and 1024 option
