Kreutzberg Posted December 8, 2024 Posted December 8, 2024 I just finished the first mission in this campaign, and am enjoying it so far. However, the grid coordinates came through in an 8-digit format. As I understand it, the Hornet uses either 6-digit coordinates (normal) or 10-digit coordinates (precise). Does that mean that the proper way to input 8-digit coordinates is with trailing zeroes in precise (or cut off the trailing digit in normal)? For some reason, I intuitively wanted to put in leading zeroes, but that doesn't really make sense as I think about it! I also need to get up to speed on the offset system, too, but that's just reading the manuals! One of the really immersive parts of these campaigns is learning these nuances in systems. 1
Solution rob10 Posted December 8, 2024 Solution Posted December 8, 2024 Yes, trailing zeros. Just remember that it's 2 x 5 digit sequences so when your lead calls 9282 2758 you need to input 92820 27580, not 9282275800. Realistically you could enter 6 digit (928 275 (or 276 if you rounded up)) and probably be close enough to find a target visually. And make sure you set ELEVATION as 0 feet to get it to ground level (if you enter 0 it will adjust it to the appropriate ground level) or you'll be looking at the lovely clouds in the sky Also realize that in the very recent past the offset bearing entry has changed (won't be updated in the manual) and you now enter it as DDD MM SS. to the 75 degrees offset bearing gets entered as 075 00 00. You'll see the degree symbol on the UFC that will also help clue you on this. 2 2

Kreutzberg Posted December 9, 2024 Author Posted December 9, 2024 Thanks, both! This may be useful for anyone else learning the systems!

I tried both....but couldn't spot anything in the woods or near it.. 1 R7-5800X3D 64GB RTX-4090 LG-38GN950 N/A Realsimulator FFSB MKII Ultra, VKB Stecs Max, Winwing F-16EX Throttle, Winwing Orion (Skywalker) Pedals, Razer Tartarus V2 SpeedMaster Flight Seat, JetSeat
Jon Fenton Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 I used True, along with the rest of the method described above, and found the first group of APC hidden very close to the road, but even so they were VERY difficult to spot as hidden tight in to trees and can be largely masked by them as you sweep the pod along. I finally managed to spot all the targets you are given on the third time of flying the mission! It is tough, but can be done, and very satisfying when you do! Thoroughly enjoying this campaign so far from Baltic Dragon. I'm fully immersed and only three missions in! Really great start so far. 3

So if you get an 8 digit coordinate, you can use the precise coordinate function on the DATA WYPT tab in the HSI so you can put all 10 digits in as you stated, or stay in the default mode and only put in 6. There will be times as well when you add the trailing 0 at the end of each segment it might "round". For example for the 9282 sequence if you put in the trailing zero it might round to something like 92819. In some location having the elevation will make or break how easy it is to find the target.
Steel Jaw Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Where do I set for grid coordinates please. "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB.
Falken2 Posted February 8 Posted February 8 Yeah I stuggled with these 8 digits coordinates. Very silly to give 8 digits when it's either 6 or 10, especially when the last zeroes are missing. Plus the system accepts these coordinates. Except the first point is about 40 miles south west in Finland from WP6. The ergonomics of those late 20th century fighters numeric systems always amaze me.

Thanks for the trailing 0 tip, was trying with 00 at the end to no avail, also rouded up to 6 digit, spent almost all fuel searching, even though managed to complete the mission with 100 score, told lady FL I found the targets, but I didn't...
