I dunno if it's only ATI cards that do this, but I used to have an NVIDIA card before I got my ATI card, and now the highest shadows setting (full shadows?) doesn't work, everything just looks really dark. :( I was wondering if anyone knows how I can fix this, or if there is a fix that has been made.

ATI Radeon X800 series or X1600/ X1900 series, all DX9 cards run full shadow the best

I'm sure they can fix this issue in the game...As I'm not going to unload my 3870's and place back my x1600 just to play the game... if this is the case of DX 10.1 cards and Lock-On not being compatible with HD DX10.1 cards.

It's not a matter of a bug in the game afaik.

What I heard is that DX8 does no longer support what

some referred to as self shading. This is why ATI/nvidia

didnt care to support it in modern drivers.

S = SPARSE(m,n) abbreviates SPARSE([],[],[],m,n,0). This generates the ultimate sparse matrix, an m-by-n all zero matrix. - Matlab help on 'sparse'

No it's not a game bug. I have DX9 on Windows and DX10 video card and still get screwed shadows. I tried to force Vertex Shader to older versions, but still the game draws shadows wrong. It's about DX10 card's internal shader's pipline structure which isn't compatible with LOMAC's full shadows.

No help there. All DX10 cards have this problem.

That's not true, because i got a Sapphire HD 3850 for AGP-Port. That Card do not have that problem if you use the Hotfix from the Sapphirewebseite.

WEll my cards are all PCIe cards and that does'nt help...

I own a Sapphire HD3850 8xAGP and the shadows are as broken as any other DX10 card out there, ever since i've owned it.

 

This topic has been beaten to death so many times lol :D

I would think so too Mustang but seems lapster49th claims his HD3850 is working fine with full shadows... I hate when people make false claims and I am wondering if this one is like that... I'd like him to confirm and post screenshot if possible... otherwise he's getting negative REP from me ;)

i used to ahve an Saphire radeon X1600 and that worked fine with lock on and full shadows. that was also an AGP card. i have no idea what drivers it was though.

I have found that even though the Sadows don't work so well, that if I turn them off I CTD alot more.. I turned them on full and haven't had a major CTD in about an hour..

So how do you explain that I have the exact same issue with full shadows on my nVidia 7950 GT, which is an old DX9 card (happens with old driver 94.24 and newest 186.18 )?

 

To clarify, this issue is not restricted to DX10/DX10.1 cards nor an ATI only issue, my guess it's something in the code and it would be nice to see that as well as the cloud shadow (flickering vertical grey bands on hills etc.) issue fixed.

As for your Nvidia problem, you CAN install drivers that work (as I could in X1650) and I never said that the problem was restricted to DX10 cards. However, I have yet to see DX10 (had HD3870, prior to HD4850) card to draw full shadows correctly (apart from some alleged hotfixes).

As opposed to you, I CAN NOT install driver that may work, because older drives (which may work), can't actually recognize my GPU...

Moreover, when I forced Vertex Shader to all older versions (from 1.0, above), the LO worked shadows wrong again and it shouldn't, since system diagnostic reported successful VS override and I actually had old VS operational.

So the conclusion is that there's something mixed up with architecture and some DX9 drivers may have been adjusted for compatibility, while I didn't see any DX10 drivers to have managed to accomplish so.

Maybe I just missunderstood you then, not here to argue about it...

 

Regarding older nVidia drivers. LO:FC is not the only sim I enjoy, installing older drivers will break other games/sims so for me thats not a solution. Anyway my point is that it would be nice to see this (and some other things) fixed for all of us and hopefully ED will be able to fix it.

X1600 is a DX9 card

The ATI X1K series work well with full shadows in LOFC

Of course, Nvidia Geforce 7 series is worse than ATI X1K on full shadow settings

My X1650XT runs LOFC at full shadows without any problem with many drivers from Catalyst 7.11 to 8.12, tested
