Left engine took fire seconds before touching down, for no apparent reason. Birdstrike??

Just before my wheel touched the ground my left engine took fire. What could have caused this? Are birdstrikes simulated in DCS? Because that's the only thinkable answer I have..

I immediately shut down the engine, that's why the fire is put out rather quickly.

Replay track uploaded. (fast forward till I'm back at Mozdok and over the runway threshold)

Yes, the "Birds" option is turned on in the mission. It is very likely that this was the cause.

Btw: normal value is 100. 740 is like 7.4 times more probability of the bird strike.

Yeah I’ve had a bird strike like that too!

Yeah, lol! I just figured that out! Haven't paid any attention to the "bird" settings, thought maybe it was like how many birds I can see or whatever. And I believe it only affects FC planes, and I just started flying these planes after > 2000 hours playing DCS 😛

Yeah, that's the fun part. The setting is for setting the possibility to hit a bird you can't see! 🤣

Bird strike only affects FC planes? Where did you get that information from? I thought it affected the high fidelity aircraft too?

Did you have one in FF module?

There’s have been rare unexpected damage done at low altitudes that have been put down to bird strike, both with myself, and others who I fly with in FF modules, so I thought it was functional. This makes me wonder if that’s not the case now and if there were other factors.

Slightly on topic : is it possible to ruin an engine of the Su-27 while taxiing/taking off if you have forgot to enable the FOD shield intakes rather than the main intakes?

Interesting... another thread with recollection, but no actual confirmation. Maybe it's implemented for all aircraft, but bugged and hasn't been addressed which is where the uncertainty comes from? I guess this is going to be one of those DCS mysteries where we can only guess, but not know for certain?
