Just invested the 30 bucks in VirtualDesktop ... Let's see tomorrow how it'll perform ...

Did you check the requirements for using VD in terms of using a dedicated router etc?

9800x3d - rtx5080 FE - 64Gb RAM 6000MHz - 2Tb NVME - Quest Pro (previous rift s and Pico 4). Afghanistan – Channel – Cold War Germany - Kola - Normandy 2 – Persian Gulf - Sinai - Syria - South Atlantic. BF-109 - FW-190 A8 - F4 - F5 - F14 - F16 - F86 - I16 - Mig 15 - Mig 21 - Mosquito - P47 - P51 - Spitfire.

I already have a dedicated 5 GHz 80Mhz bandwidth WLAN AP directly connected to the PC.

Dude, you lack basic radio knowledge. Perhaps it would be a good idea to look up how radio transmission actually works.

Alright then Sailor, as long as you don't show up with at least a HAM radio license certificate i don't believe you anything. 😆😂🤣

Free professional advice: Do not rely upon any advice concerning computers from anyone who uses the terms "beast" or "rocking" to refer to computer hardware.  Just...don't.  You've been warned.

While we're at it, people should stop using the term "uplift" to convey "increase".  This is a technical endeavor, we're not in church or at the movies - and it's science, not drama.

How does it run through VD? Any better?

Yes. Especially the visual quality from the codec improved so i now can read the gauges again.
But performance is still nowhere close to the 5 years old NVidia 3090 ...
I've tested 2 scenarios flying in close formation to see how much the driver wastes GPU time over CPU time.

A light load scenario flying along some tankers with some escort birds (2 x F-15C, 2xF-16CM)
Not much CPU load, but more graphics

And a heavy load scenario flying behind only 4 F-4Es, but a lot of other stuff going on on the map
making the CPUs life hell to see how much this influences the driver.
This was also the scenario with the most spread over the configurations.
Going down to a bizarre 3 FPS with MetaLink and Adrenalin 25.3.2 up to 40 FPS with VirtualDesktop and Adrenalin 25.4.1

The biggest performance improvement was yesterdays Adrenalin 25.4.1 release. BUT it's extremely CPU sensitive.
It seems the AMD drivers rely much more on CPU performance in VR. The GPU it self was never the limiting factor
on the RX9070xt system in VR.

I'm going to buy VirtualDesktop for my googles too and do some more 1:1 statistics RX9070xt vs RTX3090 and MetaLink vs SteamLink vs VirtualDesktop.
But this has to wait until next week, because my son took his rig to some friends house.
They're spending time from thursday to sunday on pizza, coke and gaming in the basement ...

Thats a bummer. I am so far happy, even though it looks the way, i remember Top Gun: Fire at will. 😅

Performance for me, with my CPU bottle neck is okey. Marianas is garbage, sometimes fps drops near carriers and every now and then. Overall okey, but not great.

I think 9070 xt .. as long as you are not planning to run VR on a PIMAX CRYSTAL...

for a "Lower" end headset like Reverb G2, pixel resolution BELOW 2200 x 2200 it will work I think ok.

for even super busy maps like COntention server which I simulate on my map test, stable 60fps MAXXED out in the heavy module like the tomcat.

Hi fellas.

In about 6 months I'm looking to a new PC and to jumping into VR for the first time.

If we had to pick the hands down, best VR set for DCS, which would it be?

I'm a bit confused about pimax. Are you required to pay a monthly subscription to run it?

Cheers.

Yes and no. You can pay that amount in one go.

Sorry I mean which vr headset is best?

There is no best. All the headsets have advantages and disadvantages. I would suggest a Pimax Crystal Light, Quest 3 or 2nd hand Quest Pro for a beginner, and once you have learned what matters to you (weight, FoV, binocular overlap, real blacks, etc), you can start looking at the more expensive headsets, with a bit of knowledge of what matters for you.

Unfortunately you don't have 3 kidneys so you can sell two.

Consider this as loan payment. You pay one part in cash and rest of the value you are paying in next 24 month's true "subscription".
This "Subscription" is actually like insurance. If you stop paying your Pimax is blocked until you pay what are you scheduled to pay.
Soon as you pay it is unlocked again. After 24 months or finished with payment in total your Pimax is permanently unlocked.

Of course you are still have option to pay full amount at once if you wish that way.

This is just way to make Pimax more affordable to the masses.
Good option in my opinion.

Thank you Pimax for that.

That's one opinion. I consider it false advertising, allowing them to show a price that is not the actual price you pay. Although I see that they now do show the total cost on their website as well, probably after their legal council told them off. But in their marketing, they still put a big focus on the partial price. It's also a loan that presumably is not registered in the loan registers in various countries, that protects people from getting too many loans and such.

And in general I'm in favor of responsible financial behavior, where people only use loans for capital goods, (semi-investment) goods and such, and keep a solid financial buffer and spend within their means. So get a loan for houses and cars, not for phones, headsets. But bad behavior in this regard is primarily caused by failing parenting, education and culture, rather than predatory practices by companies.
