skywalker22 Posted February 4 Posted February 4 (edited) I thought that the seeker head has some servo drives for up/down left/right movements. Nice video btw @SpecterDC13. Now its way more clearer everything. Indeed we can see how hard are the Mavs to slew around and designate the targets. But I think we still have a bit different issue here in this thread. All we want is that ED slows down a bit the rate of cursor movement. Maybe also (at the same time) add that floating effect, which would be really cool and accurate. Edited February 5 by skywalker22
Hyperlynx Posted February 4 Author Posted February 4 That's very interesting to hear that they were usually used in BORE mode! I'll have to look into practicing that.

Default values will/should allow you to slew full rate with all sensors and the Maverick but is very touchy and sensitive. With a curve of 30, you maintain full rates through all sensors and the Maverick, and it is very controllable as you can see in the track. If you need it to be less sensitive still, I would not pass 50 for your curve. What I saw in the video from the guy who posted it, is his max rate on the TGP only got to 7. Not sure if he was full deflection on what he was using but I was only able to achieve this with a Y sat of 75. This obviously is not idea as you will lose out on a lot of freedom over the sensors in term of speeds/control. I am running with the F16EX setup, but when I use to run the TM Warthog this was a problem with the mini stick, and I had to adjust the saturations quite a bit to achieve full rates with my sensors. So, if you adjust only the curve and still notice some "jumpy/twitchy" movements and you are not achieving full rate on your TGP then only then adjust the saturation. This is how I have in the settings for years: and the same for the Y axis. But there are still unwanted issues with too fast rate of cursor movement in any direction. On 2/3/2025 at 5:15 AM, Hyperlynx said: I see. So they genuinely are crappy, and the solution is genuinely to reduce sensitivity of the axes No, this does not salve the issues as said. I am always struggling to designate the target, so I try to avoid using the Mavs if possible, although its an amazing and precise weapon, and would like to use it more. Using the Saturation helps, but limits cursor's speed on the FCR page big time, so no go for me using that feature. And I wouldn't consider that post being the correct answer to the thread's title which you designated it so.

As Specter has explained, the missiles behave like that in real life, they are genuinely bad and difficult to aim. DCS faithfully, correctly simulates what is a bad missile in real life. Read his posts again, he says that real pilots also struggle to designate the target, that it's actually one of the most difficult weapons to use in the Viper's inventory Edited February 9 by Hyperlynx
Hyperlynx Posted February 10 Author Posted February 10 Well, a pack of those precision rings arrived in the mail yesterday. One of them is slightly misshapen, so I guess their quality control isn't fastidious, but I put both black ones on the thumbstick anyway. Indeed, it makes a huge difference! Much, much easier to slew Mavericks onto target. I didn't really have any difficulty pointing them where I wanted to. Thank you for that, @SpecterDC13! So that's really it, then: yes, they're crappy missiles in real life, and in real life it's not as much of an issue because the thumbstick is stiffer, so stiffening the thumbstick addresses the problem. 1
Fuggzy Posted February 16 Posted February 16 I ordered those precision rings too, as I doubt ED will ever be able understand the simple concept of taming the Mav slew speed so it's more in-line with the other slews. The reasons we give options for things like curves, etc is because different set ups can experience different things, and we cant offer a one size fits all solution on everything. Multiple people in thread have said the mav WPN page slews faster than the TPG, including an actual F-16 maintainer who says he sees it too but the real weapon does the same thing, but you're not seeing it happen?
