reported Instant game crash caused by special character in Windows username (when using the MB-339)

I am expiriencing this problem since december. Whenever I hop into the MB-339s cockpit the game crashes. I deactivated every mod i was running and ran a repair (more than once), but the problem persists.

Since I don't find more threads like this, I assume it is a "me-problem" and not a general, but I decided to post a crash log here anyway. Maybe someone has an idea.

I've run your DCS log file through the DCS log analyzer which has identified a couple of issues you should attend to. It also indicated you do have mods in there.

Note, one of the folk who runs some DCS support has also informed me that the MB-339 has been broken for almost 3 years.

Memory Timing Issues

Remove any overclocking (XMP) from your RAM. Some GPU cards come with a factory overclock, you can use MSI Afterburner to verify if this is the case.

Bluescreen

• Your system crashes with Bluescreens.
• Remove any overclocking.
• Run SFC and DISM to check your Windows.

Custom mod error

• Error
• '=' expected near '-'
• Line 6 Script C:\Users\Clemens Klömpken\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Mods/tech/V...     (note that this is truncated in the logs so does not have the full name, but you definitely still have some mods in there 

Your DCS has crashed

• The crash occurred inside KERNELBASE.dll.
• Remove your custom mods.
• Try a slow repair of the game.
• Delete Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\fxo and metashaders2 and try again.
• Next, delete %LOCALAPPDATA%\TEMP\DCS.openbeta and try again.
• Next, try renaming Saved Games\DCS.openbeta to DCS.old and try again.

Thx. Turned out the solution was to move the saved games folder (because of that "ö" letter in the username in combination with another repair run (don't know if that was necessary) and deletion of fxo and metashaders2 it finally works. Only moving the saved game folder, resulted in DCS never finishing to load the mission.

Thanks for your feedback. Chances are the MB-339 module tries to read/write in this folder, "Saved Games\DCS\Config\MB339", but cannot handle special characters.

I'll give it a try then report the issue to the third party if I'm able to reproduce the crash.

Could you elaborate on this? Only time it has ever crashed on me was with a mod. Never since.

Second to the request for more info on "broken for 3 years".  I have it on Trial and was going to pull the trigger, but paying for something that has been 'broken for 3 years" isn't terribly appealing.......

My guess is that it depends on your definition of "broken" i.e. the module has had "minor" issues since release (such as the HSI, GPS and TACAN using a mix of TRUE and MAG bearings) and it's taken IFE a long time to rectify them.

DCS's 2023 multi-thread core update also broke some cockpit animations (i.e. canopy handle) that IFE retroactively "fixed".

There's always been a minor bug(s) since I've owned the module, whether it be the gun sight mils or the current cold start ADI bug. However, to date, IFE have always found the resources/time to push fixes and the module continues to improve over time.

Although necessary to be patient for IFE's updates (i.e. the flight director, etc.), IMHO the MB-339 is definitely worth picking up in a sale (if looking for a modern/western trainer/COIN op platform). YMMV.

Ah, that makes sense. Yeah, the community module stopped working, while someone fixed a script. But that's years ago. I have no idea if it still works. No that I care, as it became an official one.

It's not broken. There are bugs, but still worth it. Comes with a mini campaign you probably can play through during the trial.
Wish they would have some more in depth training missions like the C-101 for new users.

Plane has been working fine since the Official release, some snags but Team is On It all the Time.

They refer probably to the previews Free Mod that was available before the Official Release.

Been using it in multiplayer since release and is the best trainer out there.
