Russia not to exhibit T-50 jet fighter at Farnborough Air Show :(

Russia will not be exhibiting its fifth-generation jet fighter, the T-50, at the Farnborough International Air Show in southern England this summer, the head of the Sukhoi aircraft maker said.

A prototype of the fighter made a 47-minute maiden flight in Russia's Far East on January 29.

Mikhail Pogosyan said that by the end of the year, three more fifth-generation jet fighters will begin test flights in Russia.

"By the end of 2010 or in early 2011, we must add to test flights three more jets," he said after his meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

A source at the Sukhoi aircraft maker said on Monday the T-50 would start on a standard flight test program in April, adding it would take "several years" to complete the testing program.

Russia has been developing its newest fighter since the 1990s. The current prototype was designed by the Sukhoi design bureau and built at a plant in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, in Russia's Far East. It will be delivered to the Russian Air Force from 2015 onwards.

Russian officials have already hailed the fighter as "a unique warplane" that combines the capabilities of an air superiority fighter and attack aircraft.

The YF-22 never did either, its too soon.

Yes, you're right. It is perhaps early. I was hoping to be there even just for static snow ...

According to head of Sukhoi, Mikhail Pogosyan, development of the new engine for PAK FA(also known as "engine of the 2nd stage") will take 10-12 years.

So, until 2020 production version of PAK FA will be equipped with the "item 117" engine.

BTW, I'm willing to borrow my TM Cougar to KNAAPO if they need it for PAK-FA...

Hehehe I was waiting for someone to say that

Actualy thats a low number considering how many test flights the russians want to make.

Dunno, but maybe ground tests and simulator training count as test fights in Russia?

Their top Sniper pilots do in average 50-60 flight hours a year but sit in "grounded" cockpits for IFR most of their time.

Somebody starting a model?

For DCS? I hope so! If I knew how to make a 3d max would do it but the program is too expensive to buy ...:(

It would be cool if DCS had a story-line mission where you have to an experimental Russian Plane. I remember that back in Jane's USAF where you had to provide cover in the sky and ground until someone get's into the experimental plane (back then it was the Su-37 i think) and escort it to safety.

Check engine nozzles in the last pic.

PAK-FA with vector thrust and Su-30 with nozzles removed!

They are not removed, just blanked.
