DCS Launcher error after latest update

Hi, I am a mere fledgling in this sphere so just count me as ignorant but learning fast. I posted on another thread as I was not aware of this one. Tried to Multiplay with others in USA /Canada from Uk last night and same problem.

The trouble I find with all of these well intentioned fixes is that when I look at my Windows 11 Internet page it does not say the same and have the same headings.

Therefore I am frightened to have a stab at fixing something I dont really understand or at least can "Parrot copy" and solve the issue. Maybe I am looking at the wrong page in W/11Screenshot 2025-02-24 114955.png

Thank you as this FIXED IT straight away. So the moral is "When you know what your doing life gets easier " . An incentive to learn more about anything you are using

It is said it can be left as set now ? Is this the best way forward when  DCS has fixed this ?

Thanks

@N0XID: Looks like you're running your servers via Wine, presumably aterfax' Docker. If so, the following shell snippet should configure a workaround for you (subject to the side-effects I pointed out before):

echo "185.195.197.4 api.digitalcombatsimulator.com" >>~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Hi all,

the team are looking at the issue but I have no news to share currently, for now the solution provided by Lord Vader is the best option for those seeing DNS issues.

thank you

Thank you, I will pass it on internally. I hope that works

While I do not have the issue on Windows 10, I can reproduce it 10 out of 10 times when running the dedicated server on Linux via Wine 8.0.

Two possible solutions that both work for me (again, on Linux):

  1. Downgrade to version 2.9.12 until a hotfix is out. This will exclude you from all server already running 2.9.13. To perform a downgrade, open the windows terminal or command prompt and enter: "C:\Games\DCS World OpenBeta\bin\DCS_updater.exe" update 2.9.12.5336.1 (adjust to your DCS installation path)
  2. Add the api.digitalcombatsimulator.com domain to Windows' etc/hosts file as suggested by the OP. This is a temporary workaround! Undo it immediately once a hotfix is out! Otherwise, it will come back to haunt you (possibly years in the future), if the ED master server IP address ever changes. You have been warned.
    Apply the workaround as follows:
    a) Open the start menu, search for notepad, rightclick, run as administrator.
    b) Menu: File > Open. Paste C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts into the filename field and press open.
    c) Add the following line: 185.195.197.4 api.digitalcombatsimulator.com
    d) Save and close notepad.
    e) Open a command prompt and run: ipconfig /flushdns

If anyone on Windows, e.g., @trindade, opts for #2, please report back whether it works, as I've only been able to verify it on Linux, i.e., Wine.

@Actium Thanks on behalf of @N0XID and me. #2 worked, thanks!

Glad to hear that. Just make sure to undo the workaround after a fix is out! Otherwise, it will come back to bite you, when you least expect it. This would be an absolute nightmare to debug, when you don't know anymore where to look.

Just to clarify are you talking about reverting Stie MO fix above or the  8.8.8.8    8.8.8.4 DNS fix mentioned before as I am the novice and dont want to get caught here after the event please.

I still have the problem, because i can't change the DNS server without breaking the mapping of several services in my home network.
When will there be a fix?

you don't have control of your local DNS? what sort of services will break. there has to be a way around it.

I replied before with the steps to change DNS. But I can confirm a fix is incoming if you prefer to wait. I just can't say how long it will take to be released.

Just wanted to mention that your DNS changes didn't work for me, so still waiting for a fix, in case it's thought that the workaround works for everyone.

@Buzzer1977@Porkbrain If changing the DNS server doesn't fix it for you or is not an option, the alternative would be adding

185.195.197.4 api.digitalcombatsimulator.com

to C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts as a selective, temporary workaround described here in more detail. Make sure to undo it though, once a hotfix is out.

Nope. It's fixed by my provider. i would have to set up a entire new network with my own DNS and DHCP and then forward traffic to the gateway.
Changing the DNS on my machine will stop some automation stuff and build agents that run on my machine. So there will pop up a window all the time that it cant resolve the server name via the external DNS ( which is clear because it doesn't know about local host names).

that stinks. you could run a DHCP server for free that uses you current router as the gateway. then a free DNS that you can make changes when you want. being strangled by your ISP is unacceptable. you are the customer. they work for you. sorry. good luck.

New user here. I came from MSFS to DCS so I could fly the F/A-18 in a realistic environment.
Immediately after installation I couldn't even start DCS (the error mentioned above) and am now very surprised that for a sim that has been tried and tested for years I apparently have to fiddle around in my Windows settings to even get the thing to work.
To be honest? I've never experienced anything like this in the worst beta versions of indie titles.
A change in DNS causes problems in my internal network, so can I now decide whether I can use my PC as usual or whether DCS will run? Guys, please...
Is it now foreseeable when we will no longer have to use this workaround (yes, it works, thanks @Vader)?
I'm really a little shocked, I thought after MSFS 2024 things couldn't get any worse...

Thank you, I read through the entire thread again and saw that this affects certain configurations. In my first post, I was a bit emotional about non-functioning flight simulators and I apologize for my somewhat harsh tone. I'm looking forward to the update when I can then buy the F/A-18 as a module.

A fix should be in the next content update, depending on test results. Please look out for our future patch notes for inclusion.
