this is an insanely weak analogy. First off, if that ever happens then Shell would be the last people you talk to, and second of all, even if that did occur then YOU bought the wrong gas.

That assumes it was clearly marked as being the wrong gas, as opposed to a product with the exact same label as before being sneakily changed to a much lower quality version, with the right stuff no longer being available. As long as the label stays technically correct, this remains legal, though you would be right to ask questions about the sudden change. Though usually, your only recourse would be to get a journalist interested in the case so that the company gets publicly called out on their behavior. This could actually result in some internal documents leaking out to the press.

At least in this example, you're free to switch to another vendor (usually only to find they're all pulling the same crap). Assuming Shell isn't the only station in your small town, of course. In ED's case, there's simply no other company doing what they do.

From what I can tell, it is just an assumption that people made, that DCS made the new contract in response to VEAO leaving. ED never seems to have claimed it and VEAO claims something different.
