For me it appears random. Just sudden crash of link app. DCS still runs in the background. It usually happens within about 5 minutes of starting a mission.

Getting very similar result here.  Usually can play for about 20 mins, then link disconnects- sometimes can reconnect fast enough that DCS doesn't crash (game crash, not plane, sometimes plane crash not game)  It used to be that if the O3 disconnected, DCS would crash immediately.

How do these Link disconnects look like for you guys?
I‘m asking because I‘m not sure if it‘s Link disconnects that I am experiencing occasionally or something else…

I get kicked out of DCS and end up in the Quest Home. Sometimes immediately after starting a mission, sometimes after 30 minutes, it´s completely random, bought a new link cable, makes no difference, this is so fucking annoying, I´m pissed off beyond. It appears completely broken, DCS and VR not usable at the moment for me.

I gave up with Q link last night and switched back to VD. The latest update gives 2-pass encoding with good performance.

Meta is requesting to send a bug report from the headset when this happens, or you cannot connect to the PC. It is only a few clicks from the Oculus Dashboard.

After installing "2025-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5058411)" earlier tonight i played for just over 45 minutes without a crash. I came from the 24H2 preview.
I will test more tomorrow.
(headset firmware: v76.1025. Meta Quest Link on PTC with version 77.0.0.574.329). So far such delightfull moments have been a one-time-off-lucky-event.

Have you guys disabled the power saving mode for your USB hubs within Device Manager?  My link has been perfect since doing that.

To be perfectly honest, I just don't understand anymore why people use quest link when virtual desktop is so good. In my experience its just better in every way. Certainly worth a little effort to get it all running, then just uninstall all meta rubbish. Its a constant lottery with every new meta update as to what it will have broken this time. I've had almost non issues since i started using VD a couple of years ago. Any issues i have had, have been due to my own configuration mistakes. Once it's working, it just works. It seen like the developers actually test it thoroughly with multiple headsets and multiple games, including dcs, before they release updates. Its pretty rare if ever an update breaks anything and it just keeps getting better and better.

That’s awesome TED, I will switch over next week I think. I got Virtual Desktop working but my router is old so will have to buy a better one.

For records there was a new Meta Link update for me tonight - did not fix the issue.

Meta emailed me this to try which I did tonight and it did not fix the issue:

  1. “Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode
  5. Uninstall the Meta Horizon PC app using the Control Panel
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder:
    • C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    • C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    • C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
    • Note: The AppData folder is usually hidden. Use these steps to access AppData.
      1. Press Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog window.
      2. Type %AppData% in the Run box and click OK or press Enter
      3. File Explorer will launch to the AppData\Roaming subfolder.
      4. Click AppData in the File Explorer address bar to show all three subfolders in the AppData location.
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Meta Horizon PC app again using the setup tool from our website here
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset “

1. Because an additional router might not be feasable for everyone. For me it works with a WLAN extender, but there is no one else creating traffic on my WLAN.

2. I still prefer MetaLink because ASW is way better than SSW.

Hmm.  My link is seemingly working fine, but my Eye Tracking brain is clearly not.

After several mins of playing around.  Have finally realised that it wasn't eye tracking that was the issue, rather that I need to clean the lenses on my VR headset.

I've been there. That or accidentally putting my prescription lens inserts in the wrong orientation. 😁

Well, my first attempt to get my game router set up for ICS failed. Once it was set to an access point there was nothing I could do to find it through ip addresses entered through my browser. I checked with my Quest 3 and despite enabling network sharing it didn't see the network. Reset the router and taking a break.

Both Streamer and Virtual Desktop are installed.

Try again later...

Because with QLink DCS runs way more smoothly and stable, with VD I get horrible lags and stutters no matter what codec, resolution, SSW on or off, doesn't matter, it's unplayable this way. Any other VR Game runs fine in VD. Only DCS is just a mess with Virtual Desktop. Display quality is better though.

VD is running smoothly on default and no crashes so far. I'm impressed. I have a strange "shimmering" or quick flicker when viewing outside the cockpit at 90 or 270 degrees but forward is stable. I need to look up tweaks for the headset, Virtual Desktop, my nVidia card, the PC hardware and the actual settings inside DCS itself. Going to be a LONG process...

VD can be a bit twitchy sometimes unless you have very good latencies. Can you post a screenshot of your VD overlay (the one in your headset) then we can see what your latencies look like.

I think my setup is ok, because every other VR Game I tried runs fine with VD, including 1 other flight sim. Only with DCS I get these mixed results. Helicopter flights over crowded areas on syria map still run way more stable with Link, with VD I get lags and stutters all around.

Meta... always giving some stupid adevices of salving issues. Never ever had any one worked (for me).

They don't have a clue how to fix their own problems, then they are giving us those stupid "what-to-do" list.

No luck so far on Quest Link! I've checked all devices for the "power savings" setting. For sure Link still broken, but.

I bought a Virtual Desktop finally. I have an old rig with i7 Gen 9 + 32 GB + 2070 + WiFi 1Gb mesh node in 5 meters and I was not expecting any miracle, but, again.

With default settings it was not worse than Link, it has stable 72 fps even in ground attacks. Truely amazing, why Meta not using the same technology over 5 Gb cable!? Here comes the "but" again. The real problem, in my case, is random stuttering! Very annoying but still playable. It can be compensated by lowering the bps in cost of picture quality. And YES, the colors are really vibrant, thanks to the "vibrant colors" setting. Should be off, imho.

I will definitely continue to explore Virtual Desktop...

Ah, I almost forgot to mention the hand controls. Not usable at this time...

Which software version do you have on the headset?

I have 76.1025 it still randomly disconnects with VD when playing DCS.
