gizmo Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Hi All, I am planning to build a new PC and would like to hear your thoughts on the Spec the builder came up with. Following are the specs; 1) Valkyrie VK03 Black ATX case 6.2" touch screen 2) AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 3) Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5080 16GB GDDR7 OC Edition 4) TUF Gaming X870-Plus WiFi 5) G.Skill Trident Z5 Royal RGB 32GB (2x16GB) DDR 5 6400MHZ CL32 6) Lexar NM1090 Pro Gen 5 2TB (14000R/W) 7) Valkyrie V360 A-RGB AIO LOKI 8)Lian Li Edge Modular 1000W Gold Fully Modular Power Supply. 9) ARGB Fan Reverse Blade x6 Thank you for your time. Regards If you want Peace, be prepared to fight for it ! :pilotfly:
Aapje Posted June 22 Posted June 22 That case has been out for 2 weeks, so no reviews out yet. The predecessor had one decent review, but not more than that, so it seems like a rather niche case. I would personally go for something from an established brand with extremely good reviews by multiple reviewers, like the Fractal Design North (XL). The power supply has a non-standard connector layout, which can make things a bit prettier, but you pay a premium for it, and can be a problem to reuse in a different case. I would personally prefer just a traditional power supply. For the 9800X3D, I'd go with an air cooler, for better durability & fewer downtime, leakage and overheating risks. Of course, you may really prefer the looks of an AIO. The specced cooler has the same issue as the case. It's been released last month, with no proper reviews yet. However, just based on the price alone and how limited the heat is that comes off the CPU, you pay hundreds more for the build with pretty much no benefit other than looks. I'd just go for a 6000CL30 DDR-kit, but since you have a builder, it's their responsibility to make sure the RAM is stable. The TUF line are generally good GPU's. The NVMe has one of the new PCIe 5 controllers, which is very good. I'd just get the 4 TB version, since you can never have enough storage.
CL30 Posted June 22 Posted June 22 (edited) I’m not as smart as the others, but I think the general consensus around here is that 32GB RAM is on the low side for DCS these days, and future days. Sounds like 64GB is the new “minimum.” I went from 32 > 64 in my current PC, and it was a really good improvement. I’m putting 96 in my new build. I went from 32 to 64 5 years ago, and my new system (since 2 weeks ) has 96. Even non-simulation games these days can benefit from having 64GB of RAM. Just as a side note to hopefullly help with decision making: sitting on the ramp in a Chinook in one of the presupplied IA missions makes my PC sit at 42GB RAM in use. That’s just sitting there, with very few other units in a mostly empty map. 96GB is best for future proofing so you’ll be safe for the next 5-10 years or so, imho. 1 Spoiler Ryzen 7 9800X3D | 96GB G.Skill Ripjaws M5 Neo DDR5-6000 | Asus ProArt RTX 4080 Super | ASUS ROG Strix X870E-E GAMING | Samsung 990Pro 2TB + 990Pro 4TB NMVe | VR: Varjo Aero VPC MT-50CM2 grip on VPForce Rhino with Z-curve extension | VPC CM3 throttle | VPC CP2 + 3 | FSSB R3L | VPC Rotor TCS Plus base with SharKa-50 grip | Everything mounted on Monstertech MFC-1 | VPC R1-Falcon pedals with damper | Pro Flight Trainer Puma OpenXR | PD 1.0 | 100% render resolution | DCS graphics settings Win11 Pro 24H2 - VBS/HAGS/Game Mode ON
CL30 Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Wow, that’s a lot of RAM usage for nothing going on! Reaffirms my decision then, thanks! 1 i5-9900K @ 5.0 GHz| Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Master | 64 GB Trident G.Skill RAM @ 3200 MHz | Thermaltake Floe Riing 360 AIO | Samsung EVO 860 500 GB SSD | Crucial MX500 500 GB M.2 | SanDisk 1TB SSD | RTX 3090 | EVGA G3 850W Gold PSU | Thermaltake View 71 TG Snow Edition | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFC Crosswind pedals | Oculus Rift-S [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Lange_666 Posted June 23 Posted June 23 CW Germany map can easily go over 50GB RAM with not much going on so.... Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S, Elgato Streamdeck XL. Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!

BitMaster Posted June 23 Posted June 23 (edited) get 96GB for such a new system, it already stands on the horizon that 96GB is the new standard soon ( 1-2 years ) accepted by most builders. I would personally even do 128GB if that was available with good timings tbh Edited June 23 by BitMaster 1 Gigabyte Aorus X570S Master - Ryzen 5900X - Gskill 64GB 3200/CL14@3600/CL14 - Sapphire Nitro+ 7800XT - 4x Samsung 980Pro 1TB - 1x Samsung 870 Evo 1TB - 1x SanDisc 120GB SSD - Heatkiller IV - MoRa3-360LT@9x120mm Noctua F12 - Corsair AXi-1200 - TiR5-Pro - Warthog Hotas - Saitek Combat Pedals - Asus XG27ACG QHD 180Hz - Corsair K70 RGB Pro - Win11 Pro/Linux - Phanteks Evolv-X

I heard 24-48GB modules are “easier” for the memory controller to deal with but I have no clue if that translates into real-works benefits and if so, how… I am curious, however.
