Can someone explain the attitude hold function? I see no difference in autopilot functionality between the wing level/alt hold and the attitude hold option. I thought it might fix the planes attitude on a bank or climb when engaged but it just sems to level off just like the autopilot engage?

The aircraft shouldn't even have an autopilot in the first place.

No but it sure as heck is nice when you need to get up to get a beer or visit the restroom.  100% approve of this inclusion.

An advantage of being a SP-only player, is that I can just press Pause on my keyboard, so no need for fictional devices on my Corsair 🙂

I assumed it was a cheat for a quick tea break but since it was present I assumed attitude hold also had a function, which it does nto seem to have

All in support of having a basic altitude and attitude hold mode for all modules.  Realistic, nope, but you're not forced to use it.  Make it an option to enable/disable for MP servers to keep it "fair" for everyone on the server.

The DCS community is funny. If the color of a decal doesn't match the original, then there's something going on... But an autopilot for a warbird is ok...🤦‍♂️

@felixx75If that was directed at me, I have very little concern about historical accuracy of decals or markings.  I appreciate the system and FM accuracy, but I also firmly believe that DCS is an entertainment product.  Things that make it easier for me to be entertained I advocate for.  I'd wager 99.9% of DCS users are note experiencing any kind of forces, temperature changes, air pressure changes, oxygen level changes, etc. while flying.  Probably at least half if not more are flying with a short joystick, versus something with an extension.  Realism is what you make of it, if you don't want a UI level autopilot system, then don't use it.  I get some people want "ultimate realism" but until people are willing to defecate in their chair for example, we're an extremely long way away from any kind of "realism."

Completely agree! From Flight model complaints being off (most of us have never touched an aircraft) or the pilot body being off. DCS players can be a hoot. Personally, it's a warbird and autopilot is sort of lame. Like @Rudel_chwsaid, just pause the thing...it's not that difficult! Nor worth the resources and time to implement.

DO it or Don't, but don't cry about it. Real men don't cry!

It's one thing whether you have a joystick with or without an extension, or whether you want an autopilot in a warbird in a simulation that says it has the highest standards in terms of simulation.

Why no automatic engine management, or even better, no engine management at all? Just set the lever to full throttle and have fun? It's just work and distracts from flying, automatic carrier landing would also be great. Where do you start and where do you stop, why is one ok but not the other?

You see so many discussions about how a flight model supposedly deviates by 1 or 2% from some tables, which is an absolute NoGo, but an autopilot is great... ridiculous.

But it is already known that this autopilot should not actually be included in the release version, as it was used for development purposes. Let's see if it's still there after the next patch.

As long as an (in my opinion nonsensical) autopilot can be switched off on MP servers, I don't really care, but it's still very, very funny that realism is no longer so important when it supposedly makes things easier.

But I've said what I had to say and I'm closing the topic for me.

Putting authenticity and peoples personal gaming preferences aside, the question was not about ethics or realism, it was more that I had seen it as a keybinding in-game, I was curious as no other DCS warbird had an autopilot, but since it also listed attitude hold as well i imagined if they bothered to include it then it would have some rudimentary functionality, which it doesnt seem to have. It would be useful to know if its me not engaging it properly or the devs not enabling it, now I suspect the latter.

Thank you for being much more concise than I was. Well said!
