So there I was just taking a look around the internet. Then there is was a chance to buy a RTX 5090 FE what do I do...pass or click BUY! Well my finder twitched and I placed an order. So will be looking to sell my RTX 4090 FE at some stage. Now I need to buy a new PSU, CPU, Memory, CASE, Motherboard, AIO, M.2 ,. fans etc......what have I done? Did I need to buy one when I already have a RTC4090 FE? Dogmanbird Posted Wednesday at 02:19 PM Posted Wednesday at 02:19 PM they're getting cheaper here in aus. Still crazy prices but now the cheapest ive seen is $4500 which is far better than $6500 a few months back
LucShep Posted Wednesday at 09:00 PM Posted Wednesday at 09:00 PM (edited) No one should tell you how to spend your own money. That said, I honestly can't see any point in paying the absolutely ridiculous prices of any RTX 5090, especially if already owning a fully funcional RTX 4090... In such case, to upgrade from 4090 to 5090, and for what is gaming/simming "leisure use", the perf.advantage versus purchase cost is really, really bad. So bad that the only reasonable conclusion seems to be to wait for the 60 series (6090, 6080), which will be on a whole new architecture (50 Series really wasn't) based on TSMC's 3nm process (50 series still uses 5nm process like 40 series did) and, supposedly, also faster GDDR7X memory, which should (speculated) provide the jump in performance that all of the 50 series failed to provide. And that's ignoring the melting power connectors and cables design issues discussion, already worrisome on the 4090 before, has been turned up to eleven on the 5090... motoadve Posted yesterday at 12:01 AM Posted yesterday at 12:01 AM I bought a 5090, but sold my 4090 for a lot of money, after almost 3 years of use. The performance increase in VR is definitely noticeable, worth the upgrade.

I was planing on waiting for the 60 Series but it was about 2 am and I saw the FE pop up as in stock so I hit the tit and brought it. Now I am stuffed for Mother Board etc... When you rank all GPUs by performance, the 4090 still comes in second place behind the 5090 which has a 20-30% uplift depending on the application. If the goal is maximizing performance, no matter the cost. Well. Do you NEED it? Probably not. 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

Panzerlang Posted yesterday at 07:47 AM Posted yesterday at 07:47 AM I did it too, after hearing 'the news' that NVidia were going to cut back production by 30% "to stop prices falling too low". I also switched to the 9800X3D and yes, there is a significant improvement in VR.

I paid 700 euro back in the day for my brand spanking new 1080Ti. 4090s used to go for 2000-2500 euro, now the 5090 sells for 2600-3200. While they are superb cards for DCS, their price is too bonkers to even consider: just 1 component that is more expensive than everything else (CPU, motherboard, RAM, PSU, case, AIO, NVMe drive) combined? Uprgrading every (other) year for a latest luxury card is bonkers for most regular people. (Still their choice though, I'm not hitting on anybody who does/did is. Aapje Posted yesterday at 09:53 AM Posted yesterday at 09:53 AM The most ridiculous part to me is how they cut cost on the power delivery, so you are still at risk of having the connector melt. 2

Very expensive = 1200-1500 euro and that should last at least 4-5 years. A 3000+ euro card MIGHT be worth considering if it lasts 8-10 years. We'll see with 60-series: nVidia better get their act together and provide 6080 with at least 24GB of VRAM... I think you would benefit from Nvidia introducing subscription model. E.g. 2000 EUR per year. Once they release a new version you ship old one back to them, they destroy it, and you get a new one. It's a win/win for both you and Nvidia, they benefit from: - having you constantly as customer - getting rid of the card you could potentially sell to another user 1

That's what is known as a monopoly. And destroying working video cards isn't exactly environmentally friendly... 1
