SharpeXB Posted October 20 Posted October 20 (edited) In an attempt to stop these crashes: HYPERVISOR_ERROR bug check value of 0x00020001. I’m going to try disabling Intel(VMX) Virtualization Technology in my BIOS It appears that Virtualization is not enabled by default in Windows 11 Home. Not sure about Pro https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/enable-virtualization-on-windows-c5578302-6e43-4b4b-a449-8ced115f58e1 I’m speculating that having this enabled in the BIOS but not in Windows might be the source of the problem. Having both enabled still results in the crash though. Question: Is this feature used or necessary to run DCS? Looking at a description of what it does: “Virtualization lets your Windows device emulate a different operating system, like Android or Linux. Enabling virtualization gives you access to a larger library of apps to use and install on your device” My guess is no. Especially since it’s not a default feature. Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted October 20 Posted October 20 I have that one particular option disabled in BIOS too. Other virtualisation options in BIOS however are needed in case you want to enable VBS (virtualisation based security) in Windows, which is highly recommended. SharpeXB Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 I tried all this with no success. This person must be using Pro because the Hyper-V feature is available. I had tried enabling Virtual Machine Platform instead. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | T.Flight Rudder Pedals | TrackIR 5
Raven (Elysian Angel) Posted October 20 Posted October 20 (edited) I never had that error before. I'll reboot into BIOS and see exactly what I have disabled: I'll try to post a picture here. EDIT: This is what it looks like for me. Obviously I have an AMD system so things look a bit different and have different names, but I believe they are the same: SVM is needed for VBS to work in Windows (I have W11 Pro), so that's enabled. SR-IOV is needed for virtual machines, which I don't need and is thus disabled. Everything else related to virtualisation is left on auto/default. PLUTON Posted October 20 Posted October 20 Hello everyone. So, do I need to disable VMX (in the BIOS) or do I need to enable VMX? What's best?
SharpeXB Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 Woah this may have caused an instant CTD in DCS i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | T.Flight Rudder Pedals | TrackIR 5
SharpeXB Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 DCS still crashed regardless. I think turning this off in the BIOS prevents those Hypervisor crashes though. Be careful. When I disable that in the BIOS my PIN won’t work on the PC and I need to use my password. i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | T.Flight Rudder Pedals | TrackIR 5
SharpeXB Posted October 20 Author Posted October 20 With this disabled in the BIOS my PIN code won’t function on the PC i9-14900KS | ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO | 64GB DDR5 5600MHz | iCUE H150i Liquid CPU Cooler | ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 4090 OC | Windows 11 Home | 2TB Samsung 980 PRO NVMe | Corsair RM1000x | LG 48GQ900-B 4K OLED Monitor | CH Fighterstick | Ch Pro Throttle | T.Flight Rudder Pedals | TrackIR 5
SharpeXB Posted October 21 Author Posted October 21 (edited) I think messing with this was a bad idea. It didn’t do anything to solve Blue Screens and DCS still quit. draconus Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago (edited) You should've started with repair and clean of DCS, same for Windows, then upload your dcs.log if it still crashes. Hiob Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago (edited) I don't know if relevant, but just as data point. Virtualization isn't a inherent problem for DCS. I run Virtual Machines on my system and therefore have to have it enabled. Never caused an issue. (I'm on AMD though) Maybe it is just a coincident and there is no causal connection? Edit: and I think, running W pro and having knowingly or unknowingly enabled virtualization and/or actively using VMs isn't out of the ordinary. There are likely hundreds of DCS users with such a profile. Edited 13 hours ago by Hiob 1 "Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"
