Hi everyone, very strange issue here.

My trackir is not working after the last update, the strangest thing is that the F14 is the only module where it does not work.
I have checked and also reset the controls. The head tracking works correctly when I am in VR (usually i fly in 2d when I don't have a lot of time and in VR when I am doing some longer mission).
Also my trackir settings are greyed out and can't be assigned (cannot remember if before it was set something ther)...this is the same in every dcs module anyway but as already said  trackir works in every other module, even swithing to the RIO seat it works, but back to the front seat I will have the view frozen in the same position it was before switching to the front seat
I will upload some tracks here...What did happen?

I assume that the TrackIR centering is also blocked at the pilot seat, right?

Only data point I can give is, that never, not once, in any module, I had to setup anything TrackIR related inside DCS. Only button config and curves inside the TrackIR software. Apart from that, I noticed that the button bindings go haywire, when you start TrackIR before connecting the Input device you assigned the TrackIR controls to.

I pretty much only fly the 14, I also use TrackIR, and don't have a problem.

With the controls being grayed out, that makes me think that possibly your camera's USB connection has had a hiccup. Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it into another slot? Can you confirm that when you load into the TrackIR software (without DCS running), that the hardware all seems to be functioning correctly to begin with?

I'm not updating this anymore. It's safe to assume I have all the stuff, and the stuff for the stuff too. 🙂

No hiccups, Trackir is working correctly with all other modules...and with the f14 itself from the back-seat as I already wrote in the first post.

It does not react at all...

as I wrote in the first post, It works in the backseat and switching back to the pilot view it the view is stopped in the same position as it was after leaving the backseat.

No changes at all in the configuration on my end from before the patch

I did never touch trackir settings in DCS in 20+ years of flying (yes counting lomac and flaming cliffs also)

UPDATE.

The issue is because I was using a mod to use RIO controls, I had to update that to the new bindings and now it is working.

Mine's gone to pot too.

It was fine, I've never had a problem and have different profiles but have stuck with the same settings for a long time. I haven't touched it in years and now it's acting like a rubbernecking  epileptic in a beehive. 🤪

Resetting it, or centering it lands a few degrees off center then it starts flipping out. I can't use it at all.

I'm trying to find the folder it lives in then I'll try reloading it. Any other ideas more than welcome 🙂.

hello. do you happen to have a lot of light in the room? sometimes too much light will affect trackIR.

what does the the trackIR outside of DCS do? i found that i had to configure the curves too. this was very important. i cannot claim i have had any problems with trackIR once i got it straight. DCS updates had no relevance to trackIR.

Hello Silver. Surely that should be Hi-ho-silver but nevermind,

I haven’t changed anything. I had the same lights on that I’d usually have on, nothing new in the environment.

TrackIR looks off centre somehow, even outside DCS. Like you say, it’s independent of DCS so hmm, not DCS then. I thought the head unit might’ve slipped a bit so tried resetting that too but it’s no better. When I started messing with curves I couldn’t get it right either. I came away from it in the end before I snapped it all.

I couldn’t find the folder either, where we keep the saved profiles for TrackIR. When I find that I’ll see if I can reload one from a backup. Other than that I’m gonna be fumbling,

cheers for looking.

What happens when you press the re-center in the TrackIR control screen? Still doesn't properly center?

"Muß ich denn jedes Mal, wenn ich sauge oder saugblase den Schlauchstecker in die Schlauchnut schieben?"

When I re-centre it everything is slightly off to the left. When I move my head it starts flipping out like it would in DCS.

It’s almost like something’s saved it in a different place. The profile’s correctly named and is what it should be and nobody’s been near any of it to move any hardware. Weird one. - the situation, not you Hiob 😄

cheers.

Is there a spot of bright sunligjht somewhere behind you? that can throw off the tracking. Otherwise the only idea I have it to make sure that the reflectors or IR-Leds are properly aligned with the camera.....

Are you using an active head piece with IR leds? Maybe one is broken.....

or battery is dying....

You’ll get headaches Max, I think I would.

I flew one night and it was as usual. I turned it all off and the following day in the same light and position it was off… and between you, I think there’s… hmm, I think someone may have nudged the lampshade on a table lamp that sits behind me? 😄 It sounds like the most likely culprit, I’ll check it later, do away with the lamp altogether for testing purposes (while Mrs Slippa is out of the way).

Hope that’s it, would make sense and be easily sorted. Will update later on, cheers 🙂

I got it working last night.

The head unit has to be twisted so it’s facing over my right shoulder instead of facing me straight on. It doesn’t look like it should work, that it needs straightening but it won’t calibrate properly when I put it where it looks ‘right’.

i don’t know why or how it is like it is but twisting it had it fixed. I’m baffled but it works.

cheers for the help.🙂

Strange indeed!
This is a TrackIR unit, and not some copy, and it's skewed in the TrackIR app, not only in DCS?

Yep, all legit.

I’ve got trackir5 pro so have a choice what I wear on my head. I don’t really use the pro-clip, the basic thing always works fine.

Usually I’d have the unit on top of the screen bang in the middle and looking square. All tidy looking and it’s always been ok. I started twisting it and testing and to get it centred properly I’ve turned it quite a way.

If I’m sat in front of it and the unit’s facing me I’m at its 6 o clock position. I have to have it turned to something like a 5 o clock position to have it centred.

It was skewed in the trackIR app yeah. It isn’t as I first thought anything to do with DCS or the update but it’s got my brain itchy. I can’t think how it’s like it is. I’m sure it was straight before, I’m funny with things like that, I like things in their place. I’ve had family and friends move things around just to watch me come into a room and put them straight again. Apparently, the joke never gets old. 🤪

No-one’s been anywhere near my set up though.

@Slippa Right. You're talking about the camera, right? Very strange that the centering shortcut, like Hiob mentiones, doesn't work.
I don't use the NaturalPoint TrackIR, but a clone with a PS3 camera. I do NOT have it on and centred the middle of my screen. I have it positioned to the left, so it looks directly at my left ear, on my headphones where the LEDs are located. That gives me a better tracking, as it sees the LEDs better when I turn my head. The centering shortcut in OpenTrack works no matter how the camera is positioned though.

The shortcut to re-center it works ok.

I suppose it’s a camera yeah, or a sensor at least? But yeah, I mean that.

Funny, I was just wondering about that, having it set to one side like you say. I used to have it like that, at the far left corner but that was when I was trying the pro-clip thing. That used to play up and always needed adjusting so I went back to the clip on the hat jobby. No leads dangling about either with that.

Ah, misunderstood. You're not using the pro-clip, but the hat thing. And the hat thing is passive? Yeah, camera/sensor. Have you dropped it by chance, so something has been skewed inside it perhaps?
My "pro-clip" is velcroed to the side of my big over the ear headphones, and I needed to adjust them some, actually pouting then a little upwards, and then the camera downwards as the screen is a little tall. No more adjustments after that.
Well, something's up for sure if it was working before. Sounds like an offset has been introduced either in the sensor or the software.

I use the standard passive clip as well. No need to hassle with charging or battery. Always works great. I have the camera straight in front of me on the top of my TV on the same level as my cap is when I look straight ahead (cockpit and real live, it is pointed directly at it. I found that gives me the biggest range of motion before loosing track.

I had it exactly the same way as you Hiob. Square on, right in front of me and it was all good. Until a couple of nights ago.

Maybe something’s up with the sensor then? It fell off and dropped down the back a while ago but it only dropped onto the desk and worked fine afterwards. I first thought it was just the passive clip thing on my hat was skewed but it wasn’t.

I have the sensor/camera looking wonky and it works but that wonky’s gonna drive me bonky.

hello. i saw this question earlier in the thread and was not in a position to check. the profiles are found here.

%appdata%\NaturalPoint\TrackIR 5\Profiles

just paste this into file explorer or into run box.
