Hammer1-1 Posted November 2 Posted November 2 I have a MongoosT-50CM throttle that needs a replacement USB cable. Apparently its proprietary or something and a local repair shop nearby cant even splice repair my current one. Any help locating a replacement would be appreciated... Hammer1-1 Posted November 2 Author Posted November 2 (edited) because Im hoping someone can source me a 5 pin USB-A cable that doesnt have to come all they way from lithuania and I can fix this week. I did email them today and they're happy to ship me one...but USPS hasnt been too friendly with my packages that have come or gone out of country this past year either coming home damaged or not at all. Id like to keep customs out of it if possible. Also should point out that this isnt the round connector; its a clip on 5 pin bar that you pin onto the motherboard rather than into the base of the control. Its an older throttle, something Virpil quit making about 5 years ago. Nightdare Posted November 3 Posted November 3 (edited) Shouldn't be that hard to get that connector on a new USB cable with a bit of solder and heat shrink, I should know, I once replaced all the wires on my Saitek Rhino Throttle unless it's the connector itself, but I believe that's a very common JST connector anyway (Though I'll admit that finding local shops still stocking small electronic parts are getting rarer every year) Edited November 3 by Nightdare Intel I5 13600k / AsRock Z790 Steel Legend / MSI 4080s 16G Gaming X Slim / Kingston Fury DDR5 5600 64Gb / Adata 960 Max / HP Reverb G2 v2 Rhino FFB / Virpil MT50 Mongoost T50 Throttle, T50cm Grip, VFX Grip, ACE Rudder / WinWing Orion2 Navy, UFC&HUD, PTO2, 2x MFD1, PFP7 / Logitech Flight Panel / VKB SEM V / 2x DIY Bodnar Button Panels

I took it to an electronics repair place and they couldnt source a cable for me. I dont think this one is going to be hard to find, but Ive no idea about this stuff. This is why Im asking, I dont know what kind of cable I need. I just know its a 4 pin USB 2.0 cable with a 5th wire thats shielding. jnr4817 Posted November 4 Posted November 4 (edited) looks like a jst ph or sh 5 pin connector. There are several places online that sell these. Installing is very simple and some even come with a tool. JST, PHR Female Connector Housing, 2mm Pitch, 5 Way, 1 Row. Got a pic of the other side. jnr4817 Posted Wednesday at 01:26 PM Posted Wednesday at 01:26 PM Yeah, I feel like I found your connector depending on where you live. You should be able to get one within the next couple of days. If not same day now you may have to buy 100 but it’s easily fixed. 9800x3d|64 GB 6200|4090|m.2 x2 http://www.blacksharkden.com/ Come join us!
Hammer1-1 Posted Thursday at 05:40 PM Author Posted Thursday at 05:40 PM (edited) is there a way I can salvage the bar I have? I just ordered a couple, not sure what tool I need to put the pins in though. Hammer1-1 Posted Thursday at 06:52 PM Author Posted Thursday at 06:52 PM bold of you to assume I can solder....I would have done that already if I was actually any good at it. So get crimp connectors or a terminal block. This isn't difficult. You can even get terminal blocks that don't require you to be able to use a screwdriver. Edited Friday at 05:07 AM by Scott-S6
Hammer1-1 Posted Friday at 03:54 PM Author Posted Friday at 03:54 PM (edited) Im pretty sure a terminal block is a bit much for just five 22awg wires. Ive thought about using crimp connectors and that would be just a bigger mess than its worth doing. It would work, yes....but thats like sticking a band aid on a bullet wound. Id rather just replace the connector or the entire wire and keep it clean. I got enough wires to worry about where cable management is already a nightmare. I got a new connector arriving, just need to find a tool to set the wires. Have you measured the pin spacing to make sure you have the correct connectors coming? You need a JST crimping tool. They come in different sides, make sure you get one that covers your wire size. Hammer1-1 Posted Saturday at 05:26 PM Author Posted Saturday at 05:26 PM its overkill because its just 5 wires and I still have to cable manage the whole thing. Where am I going to hide it? I also have to think of resell value. Its a rare throttle and Id like to keep it as clean as possible. On top of that, I have to worry about pulling on the cable and damaging it further. As much as I like that idea (and I do, just did that with wiring my motorcycle up this weekend), I just dont like having exposed wires out in the open; its just tacky. Ill save it as a last resort, but Im a bit OCD with wire routing.
