Lock On Crash

I have Lomac + FC, and when i´m flying, sometimes i have a crash, sometimes when i´m 15 minutes flying, other times when i´m 1 hour, other times it doesn´t crash.

 

 

My Pc:

 

MotherBoard: Asus P5B Deluxe

CPU: Conroe 6600 2.400@3.100mhz

RAM: G.Skill 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-800Mhz 4-4-4-12

Graphic Card: Nvidia 8800GT 512

 

Windows XP Professional + SP2

 

What can i do?

Could be many possible reasons. Some ideas.......

 

First uninstall Lockon completely and remove any left over folders. (Remember to save any missions/tracks/screenshots you want to keep)

 

Preperation:

 

1: If you are Overclocking bring your system back to stock for testing purposes.

 

2: Get and update to the latest BIOS for your motherboard (If needed)

 

3: Run disk maintenance (chkdsk and defrag)

 

4: Make sure the following divers are up to date:

 

DirectX

Chipset

Video

Sound

NIC

 

These are instructions for installing LockOn flaming Cliffs and modifying it for a much more visually pleasing experience. This install along with these mods requires a reasonably modern, stable and powerful system with a good fast CPU, 2GB+ memory and a decent Graphics card to run well. If you have a slower system you may leave out the Mods instructions. This will still yield a nice orderly LockOn install complete with backup. These instructions are intended for use on a new clean install. All information is provided as is and you undertake it at your own risk. I take no responsibility for trashed systems or screwed up installs. If you choose to attempt the mod section with an existing install your results may vary, particularly if you have any MODS installed. I am merely posting this as a guide that works well for myself and many others in the 104th.

 

1: Install Lock On (If under Vista/Win7 install with admin rights and UAC disabled or withfull read/write access to the game directory, consider install outside of program files directory ie; "C:\Games\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\")

 

2: Install Flaming Cliffs (If FC DL version also install the all seasons terrain.)

 

3: Install the correct Flaming cliffs 1.12 patch for your version CD or DL. (Available at Lockon.ru).

 

4: Windows Vista or Windows 7 users should Install the latest Starforce Driver update (SFUpdate) here then reboot.) http://www.star-force.com/support/drivers/

 

5: Enter the game and configure your HOTAS, Sound and Graphics options. (Under Vista/7 x64 OS you will need to use Creative Alchemy or a similar utility for your specific sound card for proper audio)

 

6: Back up the entire Lock On folder (Make a copy of the LockOn folder. Rar or zip is also fine).

 

This marks the end of the vanilla install. From here forward are optional Utility and MOD installation instructions.

 

Most of the mods listed below can be found at www.Lockonfiles.com and our own websites download section www.104thphoenix.com

 

 

7: Install LoCFG tweak app. (this app allows you to easily set up many of the graphics settings for LockOn including resolutions and aspect ratios for wide screens as well as backup many vital files for safe keeping including input and graphics settings).

 

8: Install Modman 7.1.1.0 (This most excellent app simplifies the install of many LockOn Mods. It is required to install all non "exe" mods listed below)

 

9: Install Walmis F-15 model (exe)

 

10: Install updated weapons for Walmis F-15 Model (modman)

 

11: Install conformal fuel tanks F-15 (modman)

 

12: Install Simmod A-10A (modman pack)

 

13: Install Simmod A10A + Walmis F-15 + Walmis weapons compatibility pack (modman) (included in the above package (unrar to get all the compatibility packs)).

 

14: Install Su-27 3GO mod (exe).

 

15: Do a quick fly in each of the above listed AC. F-15, A10A, and Su-27. Make sure you can see the new models on each AC from external view.

 

16: From here I install my 104th v1.5 squad specific skins made by Ruggbutt and Aero, through modman. You can get many non squad specific skins at lockonfiles.com)

 

Terrain mods next:

 

17: Install LOReload B1 (Modman).

 

18: Install Enhanced terrain by Ruggbutt. (Modman)

 

19: Install Enhanced buildings by Ruggbutt. (Modman)

 

Multiplayer and communication

 

20: If planning on Multiplayer install Hyperlobby and Team speak and configure for use. (remember to use Push to talk)

I also been having the same problems with my Lock On FC.

Random crashes.

I did a complete reinstall using the "vanilla" instructions, but still have crashes. I've tryed adjusting my graphics from lowest to highest with the same results.

 

My specs are...

 

Vista Ultimate x64

Intel i17 920 2.67Mhz (@stock speed)

9 Gb DDR3 Corsair 1333 (@stock speeds)

Nividia 9500GT

Hi everybody,

 

I have the same problem as the previous commenters. Flaming Cliffs stops after 15 mins - 1,5 hr for some faliure (lockon.exe stops working) or either the keyboard or the mouse / joystick refuses to work. Neither reinstallation could help. I run the program as administrator and I have no problem with any other games (e.g.: ROF, BS, Condor, ARMA2).

 

Do you have any idea what the problem is? I'm rather disappointed as there hase no problem so far and this is my favourite simulator. :(

The faliure exists even the CPU is not overlocked. VGA is neither overlocked. Operation system is Vista 64 bit.

just so you know some times when you run a mission from some one else you need to run it the way they set it up; you make changes to it; will cause not responding and CTD...

 

If its made for co-op play you need to run it as such i.e start a server pick the mission and run it that way.. If you try running it the other way you will get problem as you just described.

Papa, I think your PSU is not sufficient for your hardware, also as you overclock go download "Intel Burn Test" (http://downloads.guru3d.com/IntelBurnTest-v2.3-download-2047.html) and see if your PC passes this test without errors...

PSU:Chieftec 550W; you might be boarder line with that PSU looks like you should be running a with that set up your defiantly losing power..especialy to that ATI card.

Definitely agree with the PSU discussion.

 

Also (just because it has happened before) have you set your display & aspect ratio properly? First- Check that your desktop rez & Lomac rez is the same.

 

Then:In your Lock on installation folder go here

 

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Eagle Dynamics\Lock On\Config\graphics

 

and make changes as follows:

remember that doing this everytime you make a change in the option of Lock on you will need to re-do the aspect ratio it will reset every single time.

so i made a short cut to the desk top to that config to ensure that.

 

I havent had a not responding or CTD since doing this or keeping an eye on that.

Why do you think my PSU's performance to be low? :) As the performance of HW tools(CPU 130W, VGA 149W (peak), etc....) are below 550W.

This site Recommeded PSU between 450-650W (with my overclocked CPU, VGA)

The test ran with no faliure on the maximum and I used OCCT,LinX and Prime95 before and either of them stopped with any mistakes. (It refers to the 1 hr test)

Hm... yeah it does look stable alright, do this same test with 2GB of RAM and run 10 loops... and do this after a reboot... if it pases again you can safely say overclocking and PSU are not the issue...

Have you tried running this with DEP on or off respectively? Also I found it useful to check AFFINITY as well. Some games on some machines refuse to run properly if they are given more cores than 1.

Running FC 1.12 under Win7 64. I have installed as per this thread (including Alchemy for the XiFi sound card). I get random though relativly frequent (occurs about 1 in 5 times) CTD's. Here are a couple of the error reports from 2 separate crash events. They are almost identical. I have tried the "locon.exe.local" thing but that doesn't help.

 

Any help or guidance to solve this would be appreciated.

someone told me you dont need the alchemy fix for Win7

Renamed msvcrt.dll in my Lockon root folder to msvcrt.dlz. So I figure Lockon will use the msvcrt.dll thats in the system folder (Win 7 64bit dated 2009). So far no issues Lockon starts just fine and after about 5 long sessions no crashes :)

 

Fingers crossed this is the fix for my issue.
