LTZach Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Finally got my controls working in proper order. Much better experience indeed. I flew online last might in a "simulation" server. I flew 190 d12 against primarily 262's and mustangs. It's funny with jets in a ww2 setting you have speed as such an advantage but these guys were forgetting that and getting mixed up in turning fights. I got called a cheater a few times because I kept shooting down the jets (they would stall out while in a verticle turn fight) but I was able to maintain control. Word of advice to 262 users. Speed is life so read up on boom and zoom. Also 262 couldn't take much punishment, the jet engines were very easy to damage and a slow jet plane is a dead one, even against prop planes. Had a good time, a nice little bridge until SOW. lol I've been laughing at the same noobs.

Chibawang Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Wow, really? That's especially impressive considering I've had no need to play on anything below High, even with my aging computer!

Icarus2 Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 even on a high end pc i still reduce a little for maximum frame rates. WoP runs great all on high on my rig even at 2560 x 1600 res. It was stuttery if I engaged an nHancer profile, even if it was all on application. When I went back to default driver settings with the game on the highest settings, it ran beautifully and looked great, no jaggies, nothing, just nice looking. Swastikas on.:shocking: The only real gripes I have are the 19 page excuse for a manual that is not much better than the readme.txt (a key map would also have been nice) and the static campaign (not even a mission tree for a pseudo dynamic campaign like CFS3!). Basically its a bunch of single missions with cut screens. FM could also be better, but its not that bad IMHO. Oh, and some of the interactive UI text is garbled at 2560 x 1600. res. Other than that, I think it is really fun and pretty challenging for me on simulation mode. Loads of nice screenie opportunities, that's for sure.

Right off the demo if the demo's this good I like it already another fine WWII flight sim/hybred for me I'm buying it off of steam.. I'm just having a little difficulty with the input setting as far as the joysticks concerned the Trk ir works perfect. I'm just having a little difficulty with the input setting as far as the joysticks concerned the Trk ir works perfect. Had the same problem, I actually just wiped all the default controls and reset them myself. I had to invert the stick/throttle settings to make them typical airplane setup. Worked VERy nice once I did that. Uncontrollable for me before (X52). One thing I like in this game is when you fire your guns standing still the plane will push back. I heard if you were low speed in a P47 and opened up with all 8 guns you'd potentially stall the aircraft. Having more fun with this game the more I play. Although online so far is just a frag fest. Can't seem to find any capture the fields or strike. Just deathmatch type thing...the advantage really stems from where you spawn. There doesn't seem to be much room for tactical type dog fighting.

element1108 Posted January 10, 2010 Posted January 10, 2010 Is this game out already? or is everyone playing the demo? It's out, download now at yuplay dot com. I think the retail boxed version is due out soon enough, but not sure when.

I've been connecting through yuplay. My nick online is element1108. I don't have too much time to play at the moment, too much stuff going on at the house so my sim time is hit and miss. Looking forward to a good flight though :)
Bisch Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I guess I ll buy it... but should I buy from steam or yuplay?. Steam doesnt seem to be as expensive as it used to be for other games and I really like to have it in steam (don't care about anything anymore, friends implementation) on the other hand I don't know how future mod support will be or how DLC will be handled in comparison to yuplay. Not being forced to activate would be a great pro for steam but this time things look different. I guess I ll have to use an external logintool if I buy at yuplay? This would make steam look better for me. Can anyone help me to find out the pros and cons? Does anyone know wthether there will be a weekend deal already now or should I be fine with the 10% right now? LJFHutch Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 (edited) I hope IL-2 doesn't forget it's "simulator" roots. The general "shininess" of WOP makes me a bit hesitant. Edited January 15, 2010 by LJFHutch Question Everything - Believe Nothing
Icarus2 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 This is fun and pretty. The time limits have got to go though. They really ruin the immersion factor. Points for faster victory or penalty for slowness would be much better.
element1108 Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Agreed, i'm having more fun with it, better coms would be nice as well. I hate when the game exits the mission when you've succeeded. Happened a few timeswhile dogfighting 109's. Mission isn't over until i'm safely on the ground thanks ;).

104th_Crunch Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Someone was kind enough to get this for me as a gift. While not the most realistic sim out there, it is a sim still. It has the best flight sim graphics I think going right now, better that ROF. The feeling of flight is excellent. Very fun stuff.
Squid Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 This is fun and pretty. The time limits have got to go though. They really ruin the immersion factor. Points for faster victory or penalty for slowness would be much better. time limits ? that sounds annoying ... while points for faster kills (killing spree ? LOL) is definitely a plus, penalty for slowness not making great sense. There were some dogfights in WWII that were lasting for ages . i7 880 | HD 7870 | 8 Gb DDR3 1600 | ECS P55H-A | OCZ Vertex 2 180 | Intel 330 180 | WD 500 AAKS | 2x WD 2T Green | Enermax Liberty 620 | CH Combatstick & Throttle | TrackIR 3 | HP ZR24W | Windows 7 x64
element1108 Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Some of the objectives are almost impossible to complete in simulation mode simply because there's just too much the player needs to achieve. If you put limited ammo you're doomed to fail no doubt. Granted you can have 'unlimited" airframes per mission and the only real "mission fail" you'll get is if you run out of time on the time sensitive missions. One spitfire mission has the option to land and recover a downed pilot. I'm looking around in the cockpit and thinking to myself "there's barely enough room for me in here, where am I going to put this guy? hehe. I'm just being nit picky, it is fun and the graphics look great (and it runs SUPER smooth) but I like flying to and from my objectives (landings and takeoff's included) especially with how nice the graphics are. They update the game every 2 weeks it seems, I took 3 weeks from playing it and had 3 updates to catch up on, then another one a week later. Online is fun if you just want to hose some guys. I never see many "simulation" servers, but they're way more fun than the other types (other types have radar and icons on). It's fun visually identifying friend or foe and then having to keep an eye on him throughout the fight. Tracers are the best looking tracers I've seen in a game (besides black shark).
Total Posted February 27, 2010 Author Posted February 27, 2010 A few facts to remember when talking about WoP: 1) Gaijin studios was the development studio for IL-2 Birds Of Prey on the console. 2) Even though they used the foundational flight models from IL-2, it does not use the same engine. Therefor some of the physics did not translate over directly. They did not straight port this from console for PC. They worked out alot of stuff before it was ever released for PC. Not everything, but alot. 3) Up until within the past couple of weeks, they did not have a publisher. This was all being done on their own money because they wanted to put out a great looking WWII flight sim. The publisher has already stated on the WoP forum that they are not going to dictate content (great news!) 4) Mod tools, editor, dedicated server, camera views, are all in the works. 5) IL-2 has been 9 years worth of patches and community mods to make it what it is today. In the three months I have been playing WoP, there's been about a dozen patches. Give the game a little slack. It's still in development. If you are impatient and want a highly polished, everything there from the onset package - then continue to wait on SoW: BoB (god knows I am lol). If you have the patience and the curiosity to see how this game pans out, then pick it up and play. Just don't expect everything IL-2 has with awesome graphics. WoP isn't there yet. Me personally, I enjoyed the days when we played a game and watched the developers add content, features, and capabilities. It's what's kept me playing IL-2 and LockOn for all this time :D
Squid Posted November 19, 2010 Posted November 19, 2010 This game, owned since March, feels maybe like my best spent money on a simulator (bought on limited time reduced price offer played a role too ofcourse lol), despite its few features shortcomings and "arcadish" impression at first (which is got over quickly) . I still cant get enough of the graphics and the virtual world where the action takes place ... SO beautifully done .... amazing work with light. This sim hits on some specific points that are of priority for me personally in sims. While most people look for all flight , combat and physics dynamics and avionics accuracy my weakness lies on "feeling and looking real" visually / audio wise mostly and this is one of the points that influence me about this title. The other things is that i ABSOLUTELY had to do nothing graphics (or audio) settings wise to get the sim running in all its graphics beauty and TOTALLY smoothly .......... install, max-out settings and go !! no matter what settings i have in catalysts, it always works perfect and totaly smooth. The best stutter-free, smoother flow of motion i have ever experienced in a sim while in a densely populated and immersed world . First time ever too i saw SO many buildings and trees in a simulator , totally impressive cities representation while at the same time there is NOT the slightest notion of hick-up in motion flow, smothness ..... Planes even have bumb maping, awesome water on canopy effects, HDR, and and ....... The first sim ever for me that it hasn't trouble me graphics wise .... And that part is majorly important for me personally. Amazing. Besides the awesome combination of heavy loaded eye-candy with totaly smooth performance, i hadn't had the slightest graphics glitch , bug or issue ever , all work as they are supposed to. And just only using the game settings panel . No tweaks, no mods, no cfg no third party apps not even catalysts panel. Ofcourse the theatres of action are always confined in a rather small area maybe, but i find it hard to believe that this is what makes the difference in performance with sims like LockOn / DCS lets say, as i can't believe either that if that's what sabotages jet "hard core" simulators , that a smart solution / technology isn't out there or can't be developed to deal with the area size issue (eg smth like action and world outside a certain "bubble" dont have to be rendered and calculated until the player "bubble" is in their region etc) I cant help thinking that with LO series , most of my time has been spent researching and trying to solve issues, with little time left for actual play, and trying to get it to look and flow as advertised, as i want, as it should had been and still never manage to get it there ..... . i7 880 | HD 7870 | 8 Gb DDR3 1600 | ECS P55H-A | OCZ Vertex 2 180 | Intel 330 180 | WD 500 AAKS | 2x WD 2T Green | Enermax Liberty 620 | CH Combatstick & Throttle | TrackIR 3 | HP ZR24W | Windows 7 x64
