spittfire88 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I spent a long time learning and memorizing how to start the helicopter. But whenever i do a mission or a campaign everything begins with the helicopter already started. Is there an option to allow me to cold start the helipcopter before starting each mission?
Steel Jaw Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I do not think so IIRC but would appreciate if someone could say so definitively cause I would like that option as well. G3 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) i believe it is not a selectable option as such in game, but may be selected thru the ME when creating or editing a mission, achieved by choosing either start from runway or parking area for the player or client ka-50  only if possible, might be an idea for the next release/patch/module, if it was added to the options screen, it could go right next to the "always use these settings" tick box. something like: "always cold start from parking area" tick box. the idea is the easy bit :D Edited December 30, 2009 by G3
spittfire88 Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Ok well then hopefully a dev reads this. It would seem very simple to add an option to let you start it up every time. It's almost have the fun :)

beers Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 In the oil campaign, where a mission is time-sensitive and you are part of a group attack it starts you up ready-to-fly. If the mission is not time-sensitive, it is cold. You can change this in the editor, but i wouldn't advise it, unless you can start-up in less than 5 seconds... or fly faster than 300 the whole way... 2600K @ 4.2GHz, MSI P67A-GD55, 16GB G.Skill @2133 , GTX 970, Rift, SSD boot & DCS drive [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
159th_Viper Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Simply open the Mission in the Editor via the SP GUI. Find the Helo Icon and Click on it. Will bring up the Helicopter Group Menu as per the right of the following screenshot. From the 'Type' Tab, Select 'Take-Off from Ramp'. Save the Mission and Run it - Will be a Cold-Start. slug88 Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Also note that the updated GOW campaign, available on the downloads section of this site, changes many/most of the mission to Cold Start. Furthermore, most user made scenarios, as well as the excellent new user made campaign Georgian Havoc, and even the Deployment campaign that's included with the game, all feature mostly cold start missions. Frederf Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I wouldn't say "most" I would say some. Most GOW missions are CAS where the ground forces are charging ahead into the enemy with or without you so those have you start "rotors turning." It's really a shame that the start position and the start status are tied together. It's impossible to start rotors turning at parking or cold start on the runway. Lack of flexibility is bad. It should be "Engine Running: Yes/No" in the aircraft initialization and not where it starts "parking/runway."
EtherealN Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 While I agree there in principle, the option of starting cold and dark on the runway would be a bit weird. I mean, before the mission started, did the pilot taxi over there and then shut down? :P But engines-on at the apron or parking spaces would be sweet. spittfire88 Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 well i mean it's not like while the pilot is in the briefing the ground crew starts it up for him so its all warmed up when he gets there haha
whatnot Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Every mission should start from parking with engines cold. This adds greatly to the immersion and if it's not a possibility then why the heck did I learn the sequence in the first place?! :smilewink: An option for this without having to edit maps would be great even if it's not realistic to be on the runway with engines cold.
Lucas_From_Hell Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 I don't really care, anyway. Sometimes when I'm not really with patience I hit LWin - Home and take-off from the parking-area (Didn't even try to learn the start-up, manual is too complicated to me :D)
Total Posted December 31, 2009 Posted December 31, 2009 Then watch the training or the developer's notes. Heck, watch the training from Leading Edge. Knowing how to start the bird up, gives you knowledge of how to react to certain system failures in flight :)
