Maulkin Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 Can anyone tell me if the multiplayer (connection, stability, warping) has improved at all with 1.1 over 1.02? It could be that I have just not been doing it right in the first place, as I have always seen people in Hyperlobby doing online LOMAC, but every server I join I see the other players warping all over the place. This makes me think it is not going to work out, as it would make near impossible to track and shoot anything. I am more used to the smoothness of IL2/FB online. Are the people who fly this sim regularily online enjoy smooth gameplay like those who fly IL2/FB? I have set my network client to 128k/128k (as is suggestion in the sticky on the LOMAC forum) and I typically join servers with a ping no higher than 150 but I see the warping all the time. --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
Smash Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I can't compare with FB, but with previous version (1.02),and i don´t see any significant change, quite good, with little lag, very similar to 1.02. Only a significant drop in FPS ,could be due to the new models or detailed terrains.
Maulkin Posted April 12, 2005 Author Posted April 12, 2005 Thanks for the responses fellas! I have Cablemodem broadband 3.0 Mbps (downstream) / 384 Kbps (upstream). Usually I have flawless gameplay in IL2/Forgotten Battles, but I have never had a good game online in LOMAC. Usually all the other aircraft are warping so badly that they rocket into space or over the horizon at lightspeed and then spring back. Makes hitting them with anything impossible. Offline in single player my framerate is great averaging about 60fps or so I guess, as I have the following hardware: Asus A8N SLI Deluxe nForce4 motherboard AMD64 3500+ XP processor 1 GB Corsair Twinx CAS2 RAM ATI X850 XT PCI-E platinum Soundblaster Audigy2 Live! Last night after a great game of FB I thought I would take a look at LOMAC on Hyperlobby and saw alot of guys there. I jumped on a server with 6 people and again saw all the warping but I started thinking it had to be on my end because there is no way the 6 other guys on the server would want to stay on the server with that amount of warping going on. --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
VapoR Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 I believe the nforce boards have problems with mp in Lomac. I know they improved it somewhat with the various patches, but some still have problems. But I don't have an nforce myself so I can't confirm this.
GGTharos Posted April 12, 2005 Posted April 12, 2005 The nforce problem was related tot he fact that the network code was synchronous ... this is nolonger the case,a nd the different nforce latency shouldn't be affecting this in 1.1. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Pilotasso Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Im on an AMD64 with Nforce 3 V250, no problems here (beyond the usual) the warping sometimes has to do with the kind of firewalls and/or connection sttings within the game. most servers are set to 128/128. If you dont have this setting youll likely see other aircraft flipping up and down. Also seems that cable folks have more problems than ADSL ones. The speed of 3Mbit is more than enough but... .
112th_Rossi Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I had severe warping and connection problems on my nForce2 board. I was using a router plugged into my onboard LAN card. To solve the problem I used a 10/100 PCI network card and plugged the router into that instead. No warping at all now.
Maulkin Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 Problem here is that I would hate to go out and get the add-on only to discover that the multiplayer is still not going to work :( --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
SUBS17 Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I think mp is much more stable in v1.1, I have yet to see any F-15s dancing on the ramp. The only connection problem I did have was a delay in loading which lost me my connection. But since I defragged my hard drive its no longer a problem, still need more ram though to make things a bit quicker. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Fellblade Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 The other possibility, of course, is that you aren't lagging, and it's all the other people that are. I have had that before - checked the scoreboard and found I was the only person with a sub-200 ping, everyone else was 400+

Try Voptxp V7 it places the swap file as close to the beggining of the drive as possible. If you have a second hard drive you will be able to place it on this 2nd drive beggining and make things much quiker indeed. http://vopt.com the only problem with this is that windows sometimes mooves it away again so you have to check it from time to time. .
Bungle_uk Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Well, I have a 1mbit down and 128 up stream cable connection with an Nforce2 board, I find multiplayer to be quite stable MOST of the time. I think the key is that everyone must be connected at 128/128 regardles of connection speed. I know lockon does use about 4 times the bandwidth to that of il2. There are reasons for this which I wont go into here as it has been discussed to death in other threads. Also try the dedi servers (if u can call them that with no real dedicated server program yet) They are usually the most stable. If your not sure of how you are going to fare in multiplayer, just check the ping in Hyperlobby to one of the servers, If it is lower than 350 then u should be ok. Having said all that, I am by no means an expert on multiplayer code or even how it is all acheived but like I said, I generally find it to be quite acceptable and stable.
Prophet_169th Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I have put a server in hyperlobby for the last 3 days I think. The game or computer have yet to crash. I have had no PM's of any warping or lag issues. I only have it set with 4 people to be in, yet I think I have yet to fill all 4 slots. The only issue I had was yesterday, the 3 hop in my network to a dive. But nothing I could do, or even related to Lockon. In 1.02, This was an issue, you couldnt run a server that long. Seemed things started getting corrupted, people would lag. Havent seen the 'nuke' bug, that caused some problems, or super high pings crash the server yet.
Fellblade Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I only have it set with 4 people to be in, yet I think I have yet to fill all 4 slots I think part of the problem will be the fact that it's only a 4-slot server - I know I almost never run on a server with less than 10 slots total. Another thing may be the ongoing problems with people getting 1.1, installing 1.1...
Maulkin Posted April 13, 2005 Author Posted April 13, 2005 The other possibility, of course, is that you aren't lagging, and it's all the other people that are. I have had that before - checked the scoreboard and found I was the only person with a sub-200 ping, everyone else was 400+ I thought of that but how could all 6 of them stand it? And this is the norm for me for every server I have ever joined in the last year and a half or so (however long LOMAC has been out), across three different computers, and two ISP's (DSL to cable). I just get the feeling that I have not configured something in LOMAC right. All I do from a base install is patch up to 1.02 and set multiplayer to 128k/128k, and nothing else. I tried experimenting some more last night but it appears all the servers have upgraded to 1.1 and I cant justify getting the 1.1 upgrade until I have worked out this problem :(. --Maulkin Windows 10 64-bit - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X @ 3.7 GHz - 32 GB DDR4 3600MHz RAM - EVGA FTW3 RTX 3080 - Asus Crosshair VIII Hero motherboard - Samsung EVO Pro 1 TB SSD - TrackIR 4 Pro - Thrustmaster Warthog - Saitek rudder pedals - Lilliput UM-80/C with TM Cougars
Prophet_169th Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 Ok, I will increase the mission size so there is enough targets for 12 SU25T, and add more planes for 12 players. If I can get the mission mod'd at lunch, it will be up on HL in about 6 hours. If not until after work, in 12 hours.
S77th-GOYA Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 The FF bug is still there. We need more time to see if it is occurring less often, but it is definitely still there.
Prophet_169th Posted April 13, 2005 Posted April 13, 2005 I dont consider the FF bug to be all that bad. Its annoying to say the least. But I have never had a problem with letting the missle hit me, then recover OK. I saw that most the time people would quit out instead, and this just made the FF bug more persistant.
