Hi Guys,

I just assembled a new pc for my flightsims. After a long time i will pick my old hobby up.

Now I'm wondering what is wise. Buy a trackir or buy pedals?

Thanks in advance for your reply's.

Regards,

Arthur

Get Track IR; a squad mate of mine made his own pedals out of an old joystick and some wood.

That's an awesome pedal. :D

I'm a bit torn on what to recommend of the two, though. TrackIR really is awesome, but on the other hand a set of good pedals do so much for precise flying. It ends up being a choice between spending on Situational Awareness or on flying control, and that's not easy.

Running TrackIr 4/TrackClip Pro here with TrackIr 5 Software and whilst I do not have On-Hands Experience with TrackIr 5 Hardware, I'll be Buggered if If I can justify the extra $50 Price-Tag. TrackIr 4 does the Job well for me :)

TIR5 has a wider field of view though, hasn't it? This might be worth giving some consideration if your computer desk is placed in such a way that you will have to sit pretty close to it. If you have a bit of distance to your screen it is very difficult to accidently end up outside the TIR4's field of view, but if you (like me) have to be a bit too close to the screen it can sometimes become annoying - especially when moving the view closer to look at a particular instrument.

But I haven't actually tried a 5 (though I do run the TIR5 software) so I can't make a complete comparison.

For me.... Pedals! Then trackir...

Actually prefer the g25 pedals as well (racing pedals) to the CH ones I got... Don't even use them.

You can get away with using a hat switch for looking round to start with... But you'll probably die in the air much quicker!

So its best to save up forr both tho ;)

I didn't mind my trackir 3 .. I now have 5... For me was a bit of a waste... Depends if you need the extra resolution... I think if you never use a 5 you would be happy with a 4 and save money towards pedals... Anyways buy mine!

Actually, don't use the hatswitch for view - get some practice on using the mouse with your off-hand. I spent the entire lifecycle of IL2 with that method and it does work pretty well with some practice. Not close to TrackIR of course, but good enough if you are on a budget and have to pick between pedals and tracker.

But on the other hand, if you are really good with the twist-stick (I'm not :P ) then the preference might be reversed.

Good choice to go for TIR first. You won't be dissapointed. This will revolutionize your flying.

Took me 2 minutes and a jigsaw to built it - well, it fairly matches the description given by Axion... :smilewink:

You are crazy man, twisted in positive way! beers for you on me! :drunk:

I have just ordered Saitek Pedals today ;) If I crush them, I will use electronics and jigsaw from wood own pedals then anyway ;)
