Hi,

We are collecting data for units present in DCS regarding ability to select rate of fire and ammunition type belts (e.g. AP/HEI). Your help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

P.S. If possible, please provide ready data as concisely as possible. E.g.:

1) BMP-2 has 2A42 with hi-rate fire 550 rpm, lo-rate 200 rpm. and selectable belts AP\HE

I've compiled this spreadsheet of most of the Russian armored vehicles' armaments, munitions, rates of fire, belt composition, and a few other parameters. I'll add to it as time permits.

Update 02-03-10: Now with some western vehicles. I also filled in most of the blanks on the Russian vehicles and added a few more.

guys, we need this info in a form like this:

1) BMP-2 has 2A42 with hi-rate fire 550 rpm, lo-rate 200 rpm. and selectable belts AP\HE

It would be good to update the first post and write what you need (specific units), and what now is, that it was unnecessary searching ;)

Give me "flying telephone pole" (SA-2)!

The units needed are units we have in DCS and the info needed is selectable ammo type and rates of fire. Dmut made his post to request that the information be provided as directly as possible, i.e. already extracted from the sources instead of linking us to said sources. Basically, save time for us if possible.

I've compiled a new spreadsheet with Russian surface ships that's similar to the earlier one I made for armored vehicles.

I have an e-Book "Russia's Arms 2001-2002" which contains much info on Russian military equipment (from IFVs and artillery to aircraft and submarines and from simple sidearms to guided missiles). I 'll check for any unposted info on Rate of fire and selectable Ammo types for units that are modelled in DCS.

EDIT : From hundreds of vehicle and naval weapons in Russia's arsenal the only one that is stated clearly that has multi-belt feed and selectable fire rates is the 2A42 that is used on BMP-2 and Ka-50. Though there are many guns that is stated to use 2,3 or more ammo types.

I know this is being nit picky, but since ED is soliciting info on such details as belt composition, I figure I'd mention a few suspect things I've noticed about the ground vehicles in DCS:

Most ATGMs (except Malyutkas) seem to travel at a constant 645 km/h.

For some reason, the BMP-3 never uses the 2A70 for anything but firing the 9M117.

The 2S6 engages with the 9M311 while mobile, despite manufacturer claims to the contrary.

Dash, first thing is that I am amazed by the details you mention(the missile's velocity) but I have another thing to point-out/ask.

In the DCS2.xls file you attached in a previous post you mention that several guns use belts with HE and HE-T mix... Since HE-T stands for High Explosive Tracer I don't think that this counts for different ammo type since that ammo is still a HE round with a glow... which more or less has the same effect with standard HE round.

Another thing I want to ask you guys(EvilB included) is if ED team is interested on different ammo types used by ground/naval units in general or specifically for selectable only ammo types? I mean, as I get it at OP, the guys at ED are interested for multi-feed guns, like 2A42, which are loaded with different ammo types and the crew selects which type to fire without having to reload manually.

Not meaning to threadjack, but I have noticed that the AI constantly wastes it's ATGMs against infantry. Looks stupid and is very un-efficient.

The 2S6 can engage with cannon while mobile, correct? I've heard it can also use the 9M311 against ground targets in an emergency...

Yes to the first part. Only the 2S6M and subsequent versions can engage with missiles while on the move.
