mikoyan Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 it sounds like it has su-27 engines; unless their native engine produces the same noise as the Russian one.
Vekkinho Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 and today a guy brought a portable speed measuring radar and aimed it on the J-20, the radar didn't respond.....:lol::lol: Pilottasso and GGT, I believe this was a joke! 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
3GOCHN-443 Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 Thx for the video. Some of those so called "radars" are actually low end laser rangefingers. Judging by the video you posted the air was filled with moisture and there was a considerable distance to the plane, so the failure of this device probably had nothing to do with stealth. At that distance it probably should respond, regardless of stealth. Was it because the plane was moving perfpendicular to the device? There are other issues as well, such as the distance beeing too long, and the device not being calibrated/useful for speeds that these planes operate at on the runway. I'm not in Chengdu city, I only found this on one of the military forums, but I still think it's funny enough to share :)

Krippz Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 A bit presumptive but Japan may very well receive F-22's now :music_whistling: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22
mikoyan Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 A bit presumptive but Japan may very well receive F-22's now :music_whistling: Why can't they develop an export version instead? that may help reduce the price of the raptor. I get the feeling that aircraft companies overcharge for aircrafts and parts; the other day I saw that American Airlines mechanics are building the tail cones of the md-80 because it is cheaper than buying them from Boeing.
topol-m Posted January 6, 2011 Posted January 6, 2011 (edited) A bit presumptive but Japan may very well receive F-22's now :music_whistling: I doubt it. My bet is that F-35 is going to win the competition for a new multirole fighter expected to be announced in 2011 or 2012, next is ATD-X which might remain just a technology demonstrator paving the way for a new fifth gen japanese fighter. ATD-X`s first flight is planned for 2014, but who knows, plans change fast. Why can't they develop an export version instead? that may help reduce the price of the raptor. I get the feeling that aircraft companies overcharge for aircrafts and parts; the other day I saw that American Airlines mechanics are building the tail cones of the md-80 because it is cheaper than buying them from Boeing. The Raptor is valuable for what it is. Probably a lot of those secret materials/systems/design features the US government doesn`t want to give away are exactly what the potential foreign customers are interested in. 3GOCHN-443 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 (edited) Any news as to when it was postponed? :) Everybody is guessing and waiting. However, we've been waiting for 10 years, so there is no problem to wait for another couple of days. It seems that the only problem today is the weather so we just need to wait for a cleaner day, it shouldn't be long. In today's case, keep an eye the restriction order of the nearby airport will be a smart way to track the date. Edited January 7, 2011 by 3GO*CHN-443

Ramstein Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 I can fix that nose cone cover... and the radar... aircraft that do airshows with colored smoke use diesel fuel with colored dye in it.. for those colored contrails... just have a James bond like smoke screen with oil in a mist lay out some clouds of that oil (maybe even use small refueling tankers to prep the area with an oil mist), and let it cover the surfaces of any other aircraft following ours... that would really foul up all of their surfaces, radar nose cone, engine instake air to fuel ratio...
