Burnerski Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) I have been running my sims in landscape mode . I decided to try Lockon in Portrait Mode and was suprised at how much better it ran in that mode. I did a short demo on youtube, it's not very well done but I think you get the idea. The left screen is dark because of the camera aspect, its hard to get all the screens without a wideangle lens. The resolution in this mode is 3780x1920 and the sim runs a lot better, very fluid. I added a better Youtube video which includes Trackir5. Check it out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rduAoViiarw Edited March 9, 2010 by Burnerski Updated Youtube video 1
3Sqn_TomAce Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 What device are you using to run the 3 screens? triple head to go or a new ATI card?
Burnerski Posted March 8, 2010 Author Posted March 8, 2010 I'm running the ATI 5870 Eyefinity. The monitors are 24" 1200x1920's. The video is a poor example of the impact of this setup. It's almost like your actually sitting in the cockpit. You can see everything with out zooming. Profile is the way to go with flight sims.
3Sqn_TomAce Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Very nice, all monitors linked via display port?
tineras Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 Not that I want to totally derail the thread, but how did you get that to run without a really narrow FOV? I can get it to work properly sometimes, but after I leave a game them menus are screwed up or during gameplay it will slow down and freeze. When this happens, the game becomes corrupted and I have to reinstall. It's very frustrating. I don't even play it any more. And one of the reasons I bought this fancy new computer was to play Lock On on three screens. Unfortunately, I can't check out my exact settings right now because I'm not at home on my desktop. What FOV are you running anyway (when it's in landscape)? Thanks
phant Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 You need a TrackIR to complete your setup ;) Bye Phant
Burnerski Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 The center monitor is a Dell wth display port that I bought new off E*** for $475.00. The side monitors are used gateways off e*** for $170.00 each. I removed the plastic casing around the gateways for a more narrow bezel.
Krippz Posted March 9, 2010 Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) You need a TrackIR to complete your setup ;) Bye Phant I was thinking more or less the same thing "Three monitors and no TrackIR?!?!". But sweet set-up; thanks for sharing. Edited March 9, 2010 by Krippz [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 64th "Scorpions" Aggressor Squadron Discord: 64th Aggressor Squadron TS: 195.201.110.22

The left screen is dark because of the camera aspect, its hard to get all the screens without a wideangle lens. That's quite a neat setup, though (apart from slightly different color reproduction because of different monitor models) it's clear that the right-side display is noticeably brighter, while the left one is darker, THAT should be because of TN-type matrix. Screens of this type have a very narrow stable-brightness FOV in one axis, which is usually selected by manufacturer to be the vertical one, because users generally watch the screen from the same height. If you look at such a monitor from upside, the picture you see will fade to white, and it will fade to black if you look it from the under. If such a screen is rotated 90 degrees and watched a bit from the side, it will look just the same way it's seen on your video. If you're having this issue, you can fix it by adjusting screen orientation to point straightly into your eyes, at the 90 deg. angle. Or by using MVA/PVA or IPS matrix.

Burnerski Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 (edited) The video looks best if run in HD and full screen. Edited March 9, 2010 by Burnerski no reason 1

Maximus Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 Nice setup:joystick:, now Im thinking about getting 2 more 40" samsung HDTV..:pilotfly: maybe too expensive out of my pocket :helpsmilie: Maximus, The only real Maximus in DCS World. :music_whistling: I am not associated to viper 33 | Maximus. he is the imposter.
hannibal Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 i have to say.. this is do-able... being that the aspect is below 2, this is not too harsh on frame rates, opposed to standard landscape triple-head, which aspect is above 4, and when you zoom out, the game starts to freeze if im going to go for 2 additional 1080 monitors, the aspect is 1.6 (AWESOME!!!) 3x1080 = 3240 3240/1920 = 1.6875 (AWESOMEEEE!!!!) find me on steam! username: Hannibal_A101A http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969447179

One more good thing about this "squareish" aspect is that it's more convenient in dogfight, when you prefer to have a better vertical FOV, so you can watch easier both the bogey and the gauges/HUD.
Burnerski Posted March 11, 2010 Author Posted March 11, 2010 (edited) I was off work yesterday and was flying Lockon all day with a big smile on my face. This is the future for flight sims. Triple screens in portrait mode. Here is a pic of the setup. Edited March 11, 2010 by Burnerski spelling
