Peyoteros Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 There are "gillions" of single, coop and multi-player missions available to download and play, alone, together in coop or online madness. I guess this is one of the most moded games around. 1 "Eagle Dynamics" - simulating human madness since 1991 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] ۞ ۞
Total Posted December 17, 2010 Author Posted December 17, 2010 http://www.armaholic.com ...and also check the User Mission forum at the BIS forums. Also, many of the SP missions are also made as MP coop missions which are great to play on a locked server with people you know so you can play it correctly.

topdog Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Overcome one of the most irritating things about flying in Arma2 - the half-axis mapping issue (I'm using a logitech tool, dxtweak2, to do that with my warthog throttle, because I don't know where the registry settings are yet). Means (without the fix) that only from center to max of the throttle was actually working as a cyclic, rather than min to max. It's been a lot easier to manage some basic manouvers since fixing that, though combat flying and precise landing is still a pain the rear due to how it handles the cyclic, rudders, and what feels like overzealous weathervaning (even at near zero speeds, it can cause me to flip 90 degrees faster than I can spin in the shark). At least I could do enough to get off that mission and proceed to the next. Shame though, to only want to play Arma2's flying missions simply to get past the ordeal. Maybe just me, but really not enjoyable experiences. joey45 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Flying is best done with a cheapo-all-in-one stick or [ if you can remember that it isn't ment to be a flight sim ] with a keyboard and mouse. The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. Flying with the mouse and keyboard seems easier for me. But still.. have to be really carefull not to overbank. Anyhow, I bought ARMA2 for the ground based part. coolts Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 with you guys. stuck on the PMC addon because of that stupid helo mission with the side gunner who forgot his glasses. tried 4 times and i cant control the damn thing. might try keyboard, (grrrrrr) after a slightly pants start, the PMC reall picks up midway with an awesome tank hunting mission very reminiscent of the origonal OF. Rusty_M Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Technically this is the wrong thread to post this in, but the search function won't work on my phone. Steam have ArmA2 reduced to £5 in the uk at least. You have just under 24 hours. I am now off to buy it. The world is going mad. Me? bumfire Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 (edited) I have all the arma 2's, the only thing that I use them for is the editor and multiplayer, the rest of the game I have not even tried to play. Editor and MP = what arma/arma2 was made for. Especially with this this addEventHandler ["handleDamage", { false }]; add that to your players initilization box when playing single player in editor mode, and bingo you have unlimited life. Nothing like taking on hundreds of bad guys in garmsir by yourself, with ammo and weapons boxes placed all over the map so you can top up on ammo and different weapons when you need them, then go about raping, it will bring you the best couple of hours single player you have ever had. topdog Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 With how short lived OA was I was put off of any further expansions/DLC a bit. Most of the missions auto-fail if you take more than about 45 mins, even if you want to mooch and creep around or try out something else tactically, so that leaves you with about 6 hours of actual gameplay until it's over. Maybe I'll have to give mission editing a go, but it seems like it spoils things a bit? Other than wacko AI decisions, the other surprise and objective/outcome discoveries are removed. May give some online action a go too, might be better for what I'm looking for. Edit: I take that back; there are some non-campaign single-player missions included too I think? Some are just benchmarks and campaign missions in single form, but I think I recall there being some other additional ones to give a go. WynnTTr Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Yeah my bro and I got all Arma2 games when it was on sale and been playing it most of the last week. All I can say is that it's an armchair soldier's wet dream. It's probably as real as you're going to get without actually signing up - when it works. The bugs and poor AI are still very much present and sometimes they're so frustrating they're a game killer. Poor scripting, dumb behaviour, weird glitches and bugs, you name it, Arma2's got it. HOWEVER while frustrating that didn't stop us playing it for hours. The multiplayer gameplay is fantastic. Give us a mission and then it's up to us how to execute it. It's so far removed from CoD the only way to describe it is Einstein v neanderthal in a debate about relativity. It's several layers above AAO in realism and mission objectives. One former poster said there's no objectives - um, you have clear cut defined missions. How you go about it is up to you. Clear the village of IEDs, assault enemy locations, taking out a high priority target as a sniper team then try and extract. The mission objectives are what real military are facing. It most certainly is not red v blue with 4 possible spawn points that have easily coverable corridors of entry. This game you have to know the terrain, you have to know enemy placements as moving in without intel WILL get you killed and a restart/respawn. Despite the bugs and AI, I'm really enjoying AO and its DLC. The PMC 2 man coop is particularly fun at the moment. Well worth the purchase.
joey45 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 CoD and HoH do not have AI, they have scripted events, unlike ArmA/2. On the side i bought Arma 2 Arrowshaft (jk) yesterday on steam. So veteran boys and gals, whaz ar da best MODS out there ? Look up ACE. But be warned - it notches up the realism and might frustrate you more. Some would recommend that you play vanilla first but it's all a matter of choice. Another good one is ZEUS AI. I'm a minimalist when it comes to mods cos I have doing the installation dance and having too many mods just causes more problems and instability in the long run but those two are probably the biggest and most supported, well at least ACE is. Also keep an eye out for Project Reality for Arma2 OA. Not released yet but it's designed for a one stop shop ultimate mother of all mods. Given PR's track record with BF2, myself and alot of the Arma2 community are hanging out for this one.
Succellus Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Thanks people ! Will look into them, and no i m not weakling, ACE looks good i always look to the realism mods, it force me to be carefull and act right. WynnTTr Posted December 30, 2010 Posted December 30, 2010 Just a quick note - if you're playing with AI squadmates where you're not the leader (campaign or MP), if he issues an order make sure that you carry it out. This is to prevent the AI from stalling and standing around doing nothing. E.g. the first engagement in AO we had to clear and secure the airfield then the two surrounding villages. Our force did the airfield and were ordered to move onto the villages. The AI squad leader told us to move there but then they all just stood around doing nothing. Took me a few minutes to realise that he'd given me an order earlier to take out an enemy that was hiding in the control tower. Things didn't move on until I went up there and did as ordered. This game does make you think more tactically but it also forces you to go into debug logic mode as well. 1
