Snacko Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 After all the hard work that has gone into making these training videos, I am sorry to say that IMO the voice audio quality is really, really bad. I personally cannot understand what is being said about a third of the time. It sounds like he is talking out of a tin can, his s's hiss over other words and blend together in an echo, and he is talking to fast which is really bad with that echo in the can. This is really too bad because you had the video, and the audio available to make a much better quality video. After the first one was made it should have been obvious that wasn't going to work very well. And IMO putting these into videos was a great decision because I could watch the training on my second montior/pc and pause/rewind while actually flying a mission! Fantastic! Almost, except if I can't understand much of what is being said... Which makes me really sad because I wanted to learn how to fly some of the other planes besides the A10. But now I will probably be frustrated at the video the whole time I am training another aircraft... Ven Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I hope this is not the "higher" quality version they were talking about. Did ED record the voice in the bathroom? Can't understand half of what he's saying.
HiJack Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 Training as Video is great! :D Sound made in a "tin can" is no good :( I hope someone does the training videos ower again or make new videos with more content, more in depth explanations :) ®

Arakahn Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 The quality is quite acceptable, and am very happy to have them in the game, but the videos 14-15-16 (F-15 lessons 3-4-5) are in Russians though...

EvilBivol-1 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) Sorry guys, there is not currently a plan to change the videos and voiceover recordings. Creating these videos took literally weeks of work and coordination between multiple people to record the tracks, write and record the original language text and voiceover, translate the text, record the translated voiceover, edit both voiceover recordings for radio effects and cut into individual audio files, insert each individual audio file for both language version into their track, render and edit the final video. Basically, see my signature. Edited April 2, 2010 by EvilBivol-1 - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
Renato71 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 He was in a submarine at the time of recording :P If only it was the same sub where the microphone was :D Sounds more like sonar capture :D The quality is quite acceptable, and am very happy to have them in the game, but the videos 14-15-16 (F-15 lessons 3-4-5) are in Russians though... "Acceptable" is not acceptable for sim like this. All that was needed to process the voiceover sound is - nothing at all! Cmon, lets talk Wags into doing his friendly voiceover re-recording :D That was like real 1-on-1 instructions immersion, where after few sentences I wanted to cut few slices of bacon, some onion, break bread with my bare hands, pop up a warm bear, burb loudly, and say "cheers! go on!", in a true buddy-buddy fashion  I'm selling MiG-21 activation key. More casual trainings would've been more effective such as Ironhand's tutorials. Anyone know if he's planning to make more training videos for FC2.0?
EvilBivol-1 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 You may be right, but remember that our training had to be made for different languages and this requires scripting and planning between different people. In some ways it's easier when you are working by yourself and have full control over each step of the process. For example, when making the Ka-50 Producer Notes videos, Wags flew and recorded all of them by himself in real time and did it faster than it took to create these training videos. The Producer's Notes were very successful, but unfortunately this was not an option we could use in this case, because we needed to make sure different people were seeing and saying the same thing at the same time in different languages. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Snacko Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 I totally understand the amount of work that had to have gone into these training videos. What I don't understand is why some manager didn't say "Hold it all!" "This all is totally useless!". It does not take some kind of genius to see that these suck. I personally would not have wasted my time producing them. They are almost useless... Sorry, if this his harsh.. But tell me it is not true. Well, the manager's managing skills are decent if the team has been ordered to keep all the source material in uncompressed/lossless formats ;) Other than that the voiceover seems to be compressed with phone-like codec which in some cases gives more understandable voice but in case of those tr. vids the balance between the voiceover and other sounds seems to be the main problem. Personally what bothers me most is the audio out of synch with video. I've tested it under VLC and MPC+ffdshow. EvilBivol-1 Posted April 2, 2010 Posted April 2, 2010 (edited) What I don't understand is why some manager didn't say "Hold it all!" "This all is totally useless!".They are hardly useless. For one thing, not everyone is having as much trouble hearing the voiceover as you are and your perception of it may depend on your personal audio setup. Secondly, there are subtitles included for a reason and nothing stops you from pausing the video to read them. Having said that, I think we will reconsider using the "radio effect" for next time. Personally what bothers me most is the audio out of synch with video.Again, this is probably due to translation. In some cases, the translated text and/or voiceover may have been somewhat longer than the original and this affected the timing. We tried to minimize this issue as much as we could. They are great but could be better :) As I mentioned earlyer I hope the community take this as a challenge and produce more/better training videos in HD and post them on lockonfiles or somewhere. Take a look at the Aviator90 trainingvideos produced for FSX flight training! Snacko Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I just downloaded a set of videos to see if they were any better than the youtube versions. EvilBivol-1 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Should be visible in the training menu inside the sim. They are stored in the "training" folder of you game installation directory. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
