You might as well ask a brick wall... you'll get zero answers from ED.

I asked a brick wall. It said it was going to be the F/A-18C.

Also, I'm pretty sure someone at ED said "fixed wing fighter" at one point.

They said US fixed wing at first. Later (in the above linked announcement), they specified a "jet".

I have yet to see anything saying "fighter".

Logically, it's safe to assume it's a fighter, but since ED's policy is to naysay, I'll believe it when I see it.

I bet the F-15E lies in the "too classified" category too.

I don't think so - keep in mind Janes did an F-15E simulation twelve years ago which was, to be fair, pretty accurate. I mean give me a break, it *was* the 90s. And Janes had pretty good access to F-15E SMEs and manuals. I wouldn't imagine much has changed since then. I've met a few people who were actually at Mountain Home when the Janes crew were there working on things.

All things considered, the Air Force is a lot less anal about classification than the Army and possibly even the Navy is. I think there's been a lot more simulations about the former for a reason.

Although I did hear a rumor that Janes did get in trouble for something they put in the sim, but I never heard what it was.

Yup...the USAF likes the public spotlight that sims (and movies) can create for them...

There is certainly a much higher change of a Strike Eagle of Super Hornet than there is of a Typhoon or Tornado. The USAF and US forces in general are much more supportive of such things than we are, contrary to popular belief the US forces tend to share much mor info than people give credit for, we share bugger all, not even the odd old flight manual.

Hell I work with the things and I don't even have access to the aircrew docs.

Yeah, but that's just a personal thing. All your buddies in the service have full access :pilotfly:

Cool! I'll take your word for it... you would definitely be our subject expert on whether it's too classified or not. What with active pause, maybe we could add in the F-15E into the "possible" category. The programming challenge of carrier ops is replaced by the programming challenge of two-seat aircraft in multiplayer.

But still... that ignores the ownership of the web domain name f-18c.com :)

Edit: Hey! Who added the realistic options to the poll? About time... I finally voted in this poll today :) (for F-15E). Too bad the poll was already ruined by all the votes built up from when the options were all impossible.

Yeah this is pretty much the worst poll ever :D

The Bundeswehr were skeptical about showing me the cockpit of a Eurofighter, but I traded them a tour of the F-15E for it :p

Couldn't ED/TFC Base their Strike Eagle on a earlier model?Say one from 1st Gulf War?1990's.Hasn't that radar been replaced with later model and therefore unclassified?

Older doesn't necessarily mean declassified, in fact it rarely does. Aspects of RADAR performance that would have been protected 20 years ago are likely to still be protected today at least in part.

But that said, most systems could be made to DCS standards without using classified data. The stuff that tends to be classified is often of little consequence to a video game, and the stuff that might matter most people wouldn't know was missing/different anyway.

There is a joke somewhere in there. I just know it. I KNOW IT!

These titles are listed in the chronological order I purchased them.

I believe that was Longbow 2... but I could be wrong.

And that's why you won't see a British jet in a sim.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.
