BigMotor Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Hello folks, First time post here, great to be part of this forum. I bought Black Shark two weeks ago and have logged about 24 hours flying it. It is by far the best simulation I have ever seen (having flown almost every flight sim made since the late '80s). I really enjoy the comprehensive manual, in-depth systems, and accurate flight model. After two weeks of training on simple user-made missions, I feel a real sense of accomplishment in becoming confident operating a helicopter. Posted below (hopefully), are screenshots showing my graduation from basic flight training (landing on the back of the Moskva cruiser, first try would you believe). Next will come combat training although I'm not familiar with copter tactics on the battlefield. Seems like it would be very hard to survive unless done stealthily at night. Anyway just wanted to say hello and congratulate Eagle Dynamics on a fine product.
slug88 Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Welcome! Yes it's great, and it's only going to get better :D. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Panzertard Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Welcome, Chevy (Otherwise you're no big motor :D) - welcome to the forums. :) Yes, it's true - accomplishing flying the Shark is a great accomplishment indeed. You just got to walk tall after retruning from your first combat mission in simulator mode. Btw, don't forget to check out the Multiplayer servers - there's a couple of very friendly places to train online with other pilots - as well as hooking up using Teamspeak/Ventrilo. :) The mind is like a parachute. JasBird Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I know how you feel BigMotor. Black Shark is an instant classic and bring back memories from the good old days playing Gunship(C64 & PC) and Janes Longbow 1 & 2(PC). Those where the days :)
topdog Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 That's cool, I'm going to have go out and find that boat now, well done :) My landings are a bit haphazard so it could be just the practice and confines that I need to break my bad habits :D [ i7 2600k 4.6GHz :: 16GB Mushkin Blackline LV :: EVGA GTX 1080ti 11GB ] [ TM Warthog / Saitek Rudder :: Oculus Rift :: Obutto cockpit :: Acer HN274H 27" 120Hz :: 3D Vision Ready ]
Scooternutz Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 It really is a great sim. I spent about the same time learning how to fly the Shark, barely. I am still learning and I have been flying for over a year now. It is truly a compliment when the chaps in my squad think I am good. I have so much more to learn. One of the things I love to do is the complete cold start by using the checklist. Not the scramble start but the full Monty. Right now I am trying to get a new era started for the 16th Flying Tigers ACCW by starting a dedicated BS squad. We are creating mission templates that are tailored for our unit. We have assigned FARPs that we will use as well. I am looking forward to A-10C and I have no intention of stopping flying BS. I love this sim and it is so much more than a game. Landing on a ship is a real skill. Good job! I consider the Dragon missions priceless in learning combat skills. They are works of art. Glad you are a part of a great community. BigMotor Posted April 13, 2010 Author Posted April 13, 2010 I consider the Dragon missions priceless in learning combat skills. They are works of art. Thanks for the encouraging posts guys. I made a few simple combat missions and trained for a week but when I started the campaign, first enemy contact proved to be fatal, ah heh. Need more training on escape from IR SAMS. Scooter, I went to your squads website but couldn't locate the Dragon missions. Also checked search here with no luck. Could you point out their location, I could really use some good trainer missions? Thanks, Jim.

CAMERAMAN Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Hi guys I have been an avid supporter of DCS over the years! I just love this simulator. I also have purchased these modules, BS2, UH1, A10c & CA I have completed most of the campaigns & missions & now feel that I woud like to experience multiplayer. I briefly went onto multiplayer to take a look & found that most of the games/ groups are closed. I aslo belive that Teamspeak with TARS is also neccessary for communication. Any advise on joing a squadron & multiplayer advise would be hugely appreciated. regards Trent Saunders

Once you tried it you will find its hard to go back to single player again! A great server to start on is the Virtual Aerobatics server.....NO WEAPONS....but it will give you a taste of flying online without getting shot at! and there are regulars that go on there and most will be happy to help you out. They have their own team speak server too, although it's not compulsory, it can help if you are flying off in a group to some airfield somewhere (which happens a lot on the server, and can be great fun) and helps you keep in contact with your flight buddies. Otherwise you can chat via the in game text, again a lot of folks do this rather than TS. However you will need DCS version 1.2.7 (the current one) to fly on there, and a big plus is it's open 24/7. I'm split at the moment as I like to fly 1.2.8 Beta, but the VA server isn't updating to 1.2.8 until the final release, which should be soon anyway, so I have been trying others out. Once you feel confident then join an all out battle server and go blow stuff up!!! I am a member of the 229th and fly with them sometimes, although not exclusively, and can recommend them for an online squadron. Lots of help available on all sorts of issues, but you will need TS when online. Again they have their own TS server and they will give you all the TS and server passwords when you join. Here's a link to their site.... http://1stcavdiv.conceptbb.com/ Have fun and hope to see you out there........ leafer Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Congratulations! The Shark is quite awesome in combat as you'll soon find out. Just make sure you kill all the room lights when you have a go at a night mission. :D Also, if you like helicopters then you must try the Huey from Belsimtek. They're ED's partner and their helicopter sims are unmatched. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
