Downey Jr. Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Hey folks, Downey here...been away for a few...saw FC2 ...now maybe perhaps maybe I wanna buy it...if I do what do I need? I don't have any LockOn related products... What's the quickest and cheapest way to get FC2 up and running? I still cringe at the thought of head to head multiplayer with someone flying a jet straight at your Blackshark smoking you ...let's be honest here BS players have to be a bit more skilled than Lomac players...
HiJack Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 IMO you need a adwanced graphic card and a top CPU along with a good joystick (flight stick). I also recomend TrackIR because this makes flying a completle new experience on the screen. If you dont want to program yourself to death on the joystick I also recomend VAC (Voice Activated Command) to use for radio. ®
Downey Jr. Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 ...thanks...I have all that and a bucket of chicken wings...no worries I got a PM stating what I need (basic lomac no fc1 needed)
EtherealN Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 let's be honest here BS players have to be a bit more skilled than Lomac players... Let's be honest here - no. If you go "head-to-head" in your shark against a fighter, you just die. Furthermore, you most likely never even saw the fast-mover coming, since you don't have an RWR. Thing is, this is not AirQuake. Co-operate with friendly air assets and let them handle the other jets so you can get on with your ground attack and CAS duties. ;) As for what you need for FC2 - you need a copy of LOMAC (try your local store, amazon, lockon.co.uk or a host of other retailers), and then you obtain a copy of FC2. Install LOMAC, then install FC2, and you're good to go. Just don't go head-to-head. Head-to-head rarely happens IRL even between jet fighters, and there's no such thing as a trained attack chopper pilot that decides to attack an airborne fighter. (Whole other thing if the chopper pilot is named EtherealN and the fighter pilot GGtharos, though... :P ) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester

coder1024 Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 yes, BS can be a beast to fly; takes lots of practice just to get to where you can takeoff, fly a pattern and land. chuck norris flies BS and doesn't need no stinking trim button :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] coder1024 72nd Virtual Fighter Wing Falcon 4.0 Allied Force Pit Trainer FalconLobby

Chuck Norris can fly ANY Aircraft without even touching the Stick and Throttle, just with his mind :megalol:. Sorry for hijacking the thread.:D And yes .. you only need LOMAC 1.0 .....Download FC2.0 , buy a key from E-Shop, install and be happy ... thats it ! Downey Jr. Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 NOT COOL...I have to buy a physical copy of Lomac to have it delivered...well that's a deal breaker...why not make it downloadable? legal reasons?
Nate--IRL-- Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Yeah UBI own the rights to the original LOMAC. ED said they are looking into a combined LO & FC2 product but I guess it depends on UBI not being ****s. I have seen LO on ebay for about $3...... so its not gonna break the bank. It's an awesome piece of kit that I grew up with (it was Airwolf and Werewolf. :D ). But stating that a pilot needs "more" skills to fight in a shark than, say, in a Flanker, Frog or Eagle, is just silly. There is no question about more or less skills, it's a question of different skills. A shark pilot can actually position himself, for example, and maintain that optimal position. Jet pilots need to work with being constantly on the move, with opposition that is also constantly moving and often at supersonic speeds. Then they need to defeat missiles, which is not a simple thing when you didn't check out a Raptor, Lightning or Spirit. :P Thing is that there were several issues in FC1.1 that allowed people to defeat missiles in ways that should not be possible, or at least be much more difficult than they were in FC1.1. Most of those "holes" are plugged in FC2. I dare you to go up against a skilled fighter pilot in FC2 and say that it is easy. Now, I personally find it easier to use the Shark than, say, the Eagle, but this has nothing to do with one being easier than the other - it's all about the fact that I have hundreds of hours in the shark, and only about 20 hours in the Eagle. Downey Jr. Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 cool so FC2 is more realistic then but the only other thing I was really dreading is how are the flight models? I know it doesn't compare to BS but how does it compare lets say a mid-range sim like FSX? the fact that you find Blackshark easier is encouraging I still can't control it mid-combat as I lose control but then again I haven't practiced too much...still stuck on Deployment where you head into a valley full of enemies that you need to take out and there are 2 hinds there as well. 1
Downey Jr. Posted March 31, 2010 Author Posted March 31, 2010 well just ordered Lock On for less than 5 bucks on Ebay...once that arrives Ill be downloading FC2
DoctorStrop Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 For those waiting for lock on to arrive you can still DL all the FC2 files ready for when you get your disk throught the post, you can't install them though. Actually not only you can install it (and get your hands on the complete documentation), you can launch the main menu, change settings and maybe even work in the Mission Editor. The code is required the first time you launch a mission, AFAIK. I've never had LOMAC or FC installed though. so I think you need to wait, install LOMAC, and then install FC2. Bucic Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 I had a nightmare installing this as it could not detect my copy of Lockon, and kept quitting the install. You should have either uninstall LO - clean registry - reinstall LO -or- ask someone with working copy to tell you what registry keys are there for LO and create the same keys in your registry using registry editor. It should work. BTW, registry is evil :disgust: F-5E simpit cockpit dimensions and flight controls Kill the Bloom - shader glow mod Poor audio Doppler effect in DCS [bug] Trees - huge performance hit especially up close

coder1024 Posted April 1, 2010 Posted April 1, 2010 I tried the ED download initially and the speed was poor and it reset. I use the torrent and just let it run overnight and it was done by morning. I'd reccommend the torrent. At least it won't get 80% done and then fail and make you start over :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] coder1024 72nd Virtual Fighter Wing Falcon 4.0 Allied Force Pit Trainer FalconLobby
