Is there any way of getting the radio messages and chatter to play through a headset or are we stuck with the sound just coming out of the normal speakers?

Do you mean headphones? if so it works just fine, best to set sounds in your soundcard or onboard sound to "stereo" for best sound, but, yes it works fine, I use headphones.

I think that Dave317 mean to separate Engine sound by Radio sound and send the radio sound to the headphone and engine to the speakers.

Dave I got what you mean?

Is possible, if you have 2 soundcards, send the Teamspeak Ventrilo ecc to a second audio device so you can snooze ingame sound and hear chrystal comunications, but for obtain what you ask we need an option in the game menu supporting multi audio devices ecc.

I think yours is a good question/suggestion to the ED team.

Thats exactly what i mean FlankerOne. Think how imersive it would be if all radio messages came through to your headphones while all other sound came through the speakers. Where would i suggest this to ED?

This is a good idea that I thought of as well. I have 2 sound cards and 1 is dedicated to Teamspeak for my headphones. For the radio communications in game to be able to be set to use a separate sound card, it would have to be added by ED. You would need some sort of option that lets you pick separate sound devices for the radio. Not a small thing to add I imagine. Maybe something for DCS in the future.

I understand the idea and it is interesting, but at the same time rather pointless. What needs to be done (and can be done) is to have a really good filtering or dampening of external sounds inside of the cockpit. If you have that, the comms will automaticly sound the way they should.

Now, if you speak about comms from your fellow pilots over Teamspeak/Ventrilo using a second soundcard can be very interesting. What I always looked for is to make other pilots sound like speaking over real radio comms. There are programs out there which can do that, though I haven't found any ultra light program or plugin for TS/VT with good results........anyone?

If you use Teamspeak you can set up the device you want-usually one, but AFAIK you can run USB-soundsystems in parallel to built-in sound. So for Teamspeak/Ventrilo this is most likely no problem.

Now, for one engine splitting up the sound on two devices for separate ingame communications is a whole different question.

You don't necessarily need two sound cards to have chat come through the headphones only.

Have the VOIP application closed. then just set the defult sound device to headphones and then start Teamspeak or Live Messenger chat and then switch the default device to speakers and start lockon.

Chat will come through your headphones only and game sound will come out of your speakers.

at least this works for me in windows vista.

Still doesn't solve the in game radio messages coming through the headset, that would be quite cool but I think quite hard to do you might need multiple threads or something, although the xbox 360 does it well.

I'm not talking teamspeak, i'm talking about the in-game radio messages and comms. I'm currently playing the revanche campaign and there is alot of chatter which really brings the missions alive. If this chatter were to come out of your headphones i think it would enhance it even more.
