Andrew_McP Posted April 23, 2005 Posted April 23, 2005 It was an honour to watch that airshow. I mean that. I'd say more but I stayed up to watch that and have to be at work in five hours. Time for bed. But what I really want to do is watch the trk again... and again! Real people flying such an excellent display. Stunning work. Sorry if this sounds silly, I feel like a kid :-) On the few occasions I've seen real Flankers display I've had a grin on my face for hours afterwards. I've been smiling for about half an hour now and my face is getting tired. Wonderful experience watching real people fly incredibly well in real time. Thankyou. Again :-) Andrew "stupid grin" McP PS I'm never going to get to sleep now. My boss will kill me :-D
Andrew_McP Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 PPS. These guys deserve the AFM for the Su-27 and they deserve it *now*. If we have a whip round in the crowd maybe we could buy Igor some more programming time? :-)
Andrew_McP Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 http://www.andrew.mcp.dsl.pipex.com/VFTCairshow.zip ought to get you the zipped trk file. It will only work in 1.1 remember. I haven't had time to edit the playback, so take control and put yourself somewhere comfortable with a cool beer and a sense of awe. I overheard someone on Teamspeak say the display team plan to release the trk themselves. Hopefully I'm not jumping the gun for them, just trying to do my bit to publicise their talent. Right, I said something about getting some sleep didn't I. Andrew McP PS You need to fast forward to about 12:17, when the action starts
Andrew_McP Posted April 23, 2005 Author Posted April 23, 2005 Just in case people haven't a clue what I'm talking about, it was this... http://forum.virtualflight.ru/index.php?showtopic=1388 I apologise for sounding a little over-excited before. Let the Brit stiff upper lip slip a little there. ;-) But watching a live airshow from the comfort of my living room was a new and amazing experience. I always was more interested in the peaceful uses for these amazing aircraft though, so this was right up my street, and these guys were *very* good. The commentary really added something to the airshow experience as well... made it all the more realistic. I did nearly eat through a knuckle though ever time the formations came close to the ground. One tiny warp and... But it never happened. Andrew McP

Burner_Tbird2 Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 Hey I just wanted to post how much I enjoyed the track. I give particular praise to how tight you kept the entire performance to show center. I'm also amazed that the big Su-27 can do a loop and roll at 300knts! We'll have to give that speed a shot in our next practice.
Искатель, 128 Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 Andrew, the forum is all standart and you can switch to English after you have registered. By the way, your posts can be used to learn English =) Very great style! Искатель, =128= ЦПВЛ http://virtualflight.ru Searcher, =128= VFTC

Kevlon Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 we that are so unlucky to be stuck with the 1.02 still. Would love is someone could make a movie out of this track.. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Fish Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 I wish to endorse what the poster said, and congradulate all involved in the event. I hope it was as much a success for you as it was for me as a spectator. I watched the show in fascination, and awe. I believe the show was ground breaking on a number of fronts, and techinically is was flawless, with excellent administration, and information flow in advance. And for the flight team. They provided us with a brilliant demonstration of what can be done with online flying. I can only imagine the amount of hours practice went into perfecting the routine. And it was not like a video, where problems could be ironed out afterwards. It was LIVE!. Many thanks for the display of such skill. Its an inspiration to all us 'wanabe' expert virtual pilots. The display was also a testament to Flaming Cliffs, and its ability to cope with close formation, in multiplay. I'm looking forward already to the next spectator event. Thanks. Искатель, 128 Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 The next event will probably be only on MAKS-2005: http://www.airshow.ru/exhibition/1/ex.htm So, get ready to visit Moscow ;) ---- Searcher, =128= VFTC public relation manager Искатель, =128= ЦПВЛ http://virtualflight.ru Searcher, =128= VFTC
GregP Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 I too was very impressed by the airshow. I wasn't sure I'd be able to get up in time but when 6:45AM rolled around Saturday morning, I leapt out of bed and ran to my computer! (6PM Moscow time = 7AM San Francisco time). It was a treat to watch and I too recorded a track for watching later, even showed it to a friend later that night. I think this was a great demonstration of where we can take this medium. Looking forward to the next show, thanks VFTC!
Искатель, 128 Posted April 25, 2005 Posted April 25, 2005 Thanks one more time to everyone! We are happy to know that there are people who are interested in what we are doing! You know, we were very shocked to see the silence (see the silence... hm...) in our forum. Thank you guys! It is really omportant for us to hear it all from you. By the way, I want to remind you that the registration in our forum became easier... or better to say that it became possible ;) And very soon we'll put a translation in the registration form. AndyHill Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Are there going to be edited tracks for viewing? I'm building a home cockpit and at the moment I'm testing servos and LCD displays. The best way to test is to watch tracks and observe how the instruments react, I've been through all the included tracks and although nice they're getting a bit old. Just watching the track would be great, but to be useful in my tests it really needs to be recorded by someone actually flying. Lock on must have toe brake functionality with differential braking! My blog full of incoherent ramblings on random subjects: https://anttiilomaki.wordpress.com/
SUBS17 Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Man what awesome flying, great stuff guys. To think it was live too, amazing. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Andrew_McP Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 Man what awesome flying, great stuff guys. To think it was live too, amazing. Yes, it's the fact that happened right before our eyes, with no (obvious :-) mistakes that made it special. We see so many great tracks & movies of excellent flying, but how often are they the result of a single flight with no chance of a repeat? Stunning flying. Andrew McP
Andrew_McP Posted April 27, 2005 Author Posted April 27, 2005 How's that video commin' along Andrew? =P <looks innocent> Video? ;-) Actually I'm supposed to be working on it right now. Just popped back to the thread because I realised An.Petrovich must have flown the whole display with his ACS disabled (unless there's a toggle I've forgotten). <pause... watching new Airbus A380 taxiing in background on TV> Where was I? Yes, A.P. flies at the back of the diamond, and the track seems to show him doing a lot more "twitching" of control surfaces to hold position. Watching his solo display again at the end I realised that 's because he had the ACS off, which means staying with the diamond through that section of the display must have been *really* hard work. Amazing flying. Anyway, back to trying to squeeze 12 mins of flight into about 6 mins of video. Andrew McP
egaRim Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 What do you mean by "ACS"? I've seen a video of a previous display from those flying russian wizards... awesome! They inspired me and my squadmates to try even harder in flying clean formations :)
BBQ Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Wow  I watched the airshow track--and was overwhelmed--and not just by the jittery camera work! I thought someday people might be able to fly formation like that--in a sim, and the day is here! (perhaps they've done it before--and I just missed it?) Congratulations to all involved--really quite professional and impressive. Now if we could get someone to edit that track...with different camera angles hehe. I really do appreciate someone putting the track together, so that we could see it ASAP--just think it's worthy of so much more :) Inspires me to work harder on formation flying-- If I recall, in single-player, you can only fly in the lead spot--correct? How does everyone practice their formation flying offline?
Redeye Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Yes, you can fly wing. Make a mission with one aircraft flying across the country.( straight line with few steerpoints). Set the AI pilot at expert level. Leave his fuel alone. Adjust his altitude say 3000 and speed at 350. Then add second aircraft matching the steerpoints and set the pilot as client (you). Also set your fuel load at 20% and select unlimited fuel in the options. You must start in the air, place the AI aircraft icon just ahead of yours on the map. Now when you start the mission you will be airbourne just behind the Lead AI aircraft. Hope this helps.
BBQ Posted April 27, 2005 Posted April 27, 2005 Creative--that oughta work just fine. What's the idea of messing with the fuel? Yes, you can fly wing.
