169th_DedCat Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 What's going on here? I just observed a client being dropped from my server several times over the past 15 minutes. He appeared to have a completely stable connection. He had a ping of only 302 ms. It happened spontaneously in mid-flight or while he was taxing for no reason. I've cut and pasted the text that seems relevant from \\Lock On\Temp\AsyncNet.txt. Does anyone know what "dgram from 4: invalid address" means? There were A LOT of these appearing in the log around the time he was getting disconnected. I assume "from 4" is a reference to client 4, which was his connection at the time. occasion 1: ... dgram from 4: invalid address dgram from 4: invalid address accepting connection from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/1054 append: client 4 client[4] is ready to start 1 clients ready to start. spawning... spawning client[4] client[4] started [5] kicked: timeout exceeded (>10.000000s) remove: client 5 [4] kicked: timeout exceeded (>10.000000s) dgram from 4: invalid address remove: client 4 dgram from 4: invalid address dgram from 4: invalid address ... occasion 2: ... dgram from 4: invalid address dgram from 4: invalid address dgram from 4: invalid address dgram from 4: invalid address accepting connection from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX/1058 append: client 4 client[4] is ready to start 1 clients ready to start. spawning... spawning client[4] client[4] started remove: client 4 ... 169th_Cobra Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 thanks Dedcat. it was me that was getting dropped and the wierd thing is everything else seemed like a really stable connection and very solid game. i was getting zero warping during the time i was playing and once i had been dropped it reconnected first time everytime with no other apparent problems. 1
Pilotasso Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 "only" 302 ms? hhhhmmm thats hardly a good ping, while its not my business to coment on whatever Cobra should stay on game or not, that ping hardly provides any stable gaming... .
169th_DedCat Posted April 26, 2005 Author Posted April 26, 2005 "only" 302 ms? hhhhmmm thats hardly a good ping, while its not my business to coment...Your comment is incorrect IMHO. It has been my experience that anything below 350 ms provides rock solid 0 warping gaming on my server. Pings in that range certainly never have disconnect issues anyway. I don't think Cobra's ping was the issue anyway, there seemed to be some other network problem at play (dgram from 4: invalid address) and that's what I'm trying to figure out here. GGTharos Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Heck, witht he new netcode you might not even get wraping from pings as high as 500. Either way though, that's pretty pad - looks like some packets may not be getting through and it tears down the connection...very strange error. 169th_Moose Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Its weird indeed Dedcat, Will check this \Lock On\Temp\AsyncNet.txt tonight, comparing them, might shed some light on the issue

I'm pretty sure those messages are due to the client being dropped before the servers connect table updates to reflect the drop. When a client connects, the client is assigned a number. If the client drops and reconnects with the same IP, the old connect becomes invalid for a period. Kula66 Posted April 26, 2005 Posted April 26, 2005 Just been dropped twice from 169th_Taipan server ... no reason I can see. Flying along ... then suddenly at the log screen! Ping 100ish ...
Tracker Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 dgram is abbreviation for datagram - an embedded ip address in the datagram was unroutable or unreachable. Cobra should check his NAT and WAN wrappers to make sure they are working correctly. The server was unable to respond to the 'invalid address' When all else fails, Eject then read the manual. Oh, and a good wingman helps.
