orc Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Hi I need help with the training mission "Takeoff and basic handling". When it comes to the part where the instructor guy says "Set speed to 280 and altitude to 7000 with a heading of 040, set the aircraft to these initial conditions". I get the first two right but i dont understand the heading thing. Where do i view heading info? i have tried to read wikis but it says nothing about it there.
Laud Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 At the bottom of the HUD or at the HSI. Refer to the HUD section of the manual. Ghillied raptor Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 When I jump in in quick play (if that's what it's called) mode, I hear sounds whenever I try to make even small turns. I'm not flying too close to the ground so what's the problem? I also noticed that, at least from what I've seen on youtube, that the A-10 is quite maneuverable. However, it's quite 'stiff' for me.
Eddie Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Sounds like the AoA/Stall warning tones. The Hog is very nimble, but you have to remember there is no fly by wire system to stop you doing something stupid. You have to be smooth and gentle with the controls, if you yank the stick around you'll find yourself exceeding the AoA limits and stalling. The tones themselves aren't a problem as long as you take notice, the steady tone is fine it just means you're at the the AoA limit (and therefore are turning as tightly as you can) the chopped tone means you are close to stalling so be careful. As for it seems "stiff", I'm not quite sure what you mean. The Hog is very nimble, however you also need to remember it is rather slow and has a low thrust to weight ratio so you can bleed away all your energy VERY quickly. Fly smoothly, and don't yank the stick like you're in a FBW equipped fighter and you'll be fine.
GGTharos Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 To add to what Eddie is saying, if you're also loaded down with a lot of weapons and fuel, the faster you bleed speed, and aproach the AoA limits ... in other words, the aircraft becomes less maneuverable the heavier it gets. Slow speeds also mean slower roll rates, etc. When I jump in in quick play (if that's what it's called) mode, I hear sounds whenever I try to make even small turns. I'm not flying too close to the ground so what's the problem? I also noticed that, at least from what I've seen on youtube, that the A-10 is quite maneuverable. However, it's quite 'stiff' for me. ED Team Olgerd Posted August 24, 2011 ED Team Posted August 24, 2011 Btw. Both peak performance and stall tones can be ceased by dedicated knobs on the left hand panel in the cockpit. Divide Et Impera Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 sorry if this has been asked before, but I was wondering if the nevada's terrain with its most sand evrywhere and rock based style would be less FPS-killer than the crimea/caucasus region with its lots of towns ? Ghillied raptor Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Thanks for the answers guys. I wasn't yanking the stick around, I'm pretty sure of that. I'm pretty certain that it's the load on the warthog that made is less maneuverable.
NIJTN_vdm Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 Are we sure what the next plane in the DCS series is gonna be ?

Specter1606688147 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I would like to get this sim but, for $59, I would like to get more than just lines of code on my Hard Drive. I have searched most of the internet and can not find a US boxed set to buy. Is there a boxed US version available? If so, where can I get it and for how much?
EtherealN Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 The North American DVD version is not yet released. Last I heard was that september is a possibility, but subject to both change and me having incomplete recollections. The only real difference between them though is that you get your install media released on DVD. The "lines of code" you speak of can be freely downloaded (even without a license, which of course is needed to actually run the simulator) and freely backuped. Personally speaking, since it's the "lines of code" on the computer that I use, I don't see much use of DVD's (heck, the only thing I've used my DVD reader for on this machine was to install windows :P ) That's personal preference though. Specter1606688147 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Thank you for the information and fast reply. I always prefer to have a box and a CD/DVD just in case I need to re-install software without having to worry about having an Internet connection or losing one of my hard drives (and all files on it). In the 32 years I've been using computers, I have had 2 hard drives crash and regretted not having the software backed up or original software disk available to re-install. Also, with fluctuating Internet speed through a wireless router, I'd hate to spend money on a digital download just to lose connection mid process and end up with nothing. I do not have the best of luck sometimes and I do not like proving it :wallbash:
EtherealN Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Regarding downloads mid-process - use the torrent. There's an official bittorent file on the download page. This can resume anytime and from any place. Also, there are no restrictions on making backups, none at all. You can burn it to DVD, save it on a thumbdrive, and put it on your smartphone, or all of them. I used to have similar issues to you, and to a certain extent still do - due to where I live I can only get cellular internet, and my ISP has been having issues all summer. But this model works fine even then. :) EDIT: And just to be clear, the example I've used is when purchasing through digitalcombatsimulator.com, which is directly from Eagle Dynamics. When purchasing through other services like Steam other routines may apply - for example in Steam you can't archive or backup installer files since you never have any installer files, though Steam does allow resuming downloads should the connection fail. It also does allow unlimited re-downloads. I'm unsure about the policies of Direct2Drive. Specter1606688147 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Thanks again. You have given me some things to think about. Any chance you might know where I could get a list (with pics) of all the Medals in the sim. Just trying to get a head-start on my virtual pilot carreer forms. Just something I like to do with all the vPilots I create.
Bertuz Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Question guys, I just started the campaign and I'm at the second mission where I have to support razor and elm. So I take off shoot a couple of tanks, land, rearm, give my wingman I structions, shoot some more. But the ground troops do not advance? I also don't get a message that my Mission is complete. Any ideas? Do I have to communicate with the ground troops or AWACS to get targets?
GGTharos Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Did you order your tanks to advance? You have to do so through the radio menu. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Bertuz Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Thx man! That did the trick! Do you have to eliminate all the tanks before your tanks move out, or can they also destroy armored vehicles and tanks?
Laud Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Of course they can destroy enemies as well. But the chance for own casualties rises equivalent to the number of enemies alive. pewbeef Posted August 28, 2011 Posted August 28, 2011 I have a question about Fence in and Fence out...is it supposed to work? I try to get my wingman to turn off his lights when we enter the AO, but he refuses. The only time he does turn them off is when I tell him to attack something, but as soon as he rejoins he turns them on again. I have noticed the N/A after Fence in and Fence out, does that mean this function is disabled?

goljat Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Could someone explain how to add and manage preset radio channels? I have red the the part from manual but having hard time to figure it out. Thanks!
Scorch Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 1) With a Logitech G940 force feedback HOTAS, should I not get some sort of vibration in the stick when the cannon is fired? I'm getting nothing. 2) Please help me find a dummies guide to getting started, the Quick Start does not seem to address how to setup a HOTAS. By default controls are mapped that make no sense. Please help me find where to begin. Thanks.
