cheezy Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I;m thinking of getting this joystick for flying and I was wondering if lock on automatically maps control to the proper spot liek the a10c will for saitek? Also will the a10c map the controls to the right spot if it's a saitek controller?
Frazer Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Some keys are indeed already mapped though most likely you will end up changing it to your own preferences. This is not a problem, as you learn the keys (functions) from that. There is no joystick that will have all the keys right in lockon after plugging in. If you want to buy the X52, go for the pro version (lasts longer, better quality) or wait for the HOTAS Warthog / buy the X65F. bumfire Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) You will need to do a fair bit of remapping in my opinion, the basics are there to some degree, some settings will need to be reversed, others will be ok, and then you will need to setup the keys and modes. To be honest, you will probably find yourself spending hours and hours/days and days making a profile. You will make a small one to start with and then you will get adventurous and make more complicated ones. Overwhelming to start with but you will soon settle into profile making. As for the X52 pro lasts longer than the vanilla x52, I dunno, I have had my x52 vanillas since not long after they came out, and that was years ago and the thing still works perfect, only exception being that the thumb slider paint has worn off, same with the T1 T3 T5 markings on the stick, just keeping me going til the warthog stick is available :) If I was you I would avoid the X65, it doesnt move, so I dont know if you would find that comfortable or not. Kenan Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 If you want to buy the X52, go for the pro version (lasts longer, better quality) Not true. X52 is a good as the Pro version, at least in terms of quality and durability. Had mine since 2004. To be honest, I think the Pro version is just an attempt to refresh the 'franchise' and increase the sales. Doesn't really offer anything groundbreaking. tintifaxl Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I would suggest the Pro, too. At least it looks decent. Windows 10 64bit, Intel i9-9900@5Ghz, 32 Gig RAM, MSI RTX 3080 TI, 2 TB SSD, 43" 2160p@1440p monitor.
bumfire Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) Did you guys have both? I actually did have both, I dont now. I started off with the x45, I loved that stick, the rocker rudder, beautiful, then then the x52 came out, I didnt like the look of it, too spacy I thought, so I didnt buy it. My X45 went on the fritz, the connector where the wire plugs into the back of the throttle if I recall, it wasnt working correctly and all the thresholds on the throttle were mashed up, so I called the store and even though it was more than one year old they gave me my cash back :) I then promptly bought a x52 as I couldnt find a new x45 anywhere. This was only 6 or so months after the x52 was released. Move forward a few years, the x52 pro came out, I took one look at it and fell in lurv, thats what the x52 should of looked like to start with, instead of the space age looking thing we have now. Anyway I bought the pro model, used it for about 2 months before it too died on me, I got my cash back and decided that their was nothing that much extra apart from looks that the pro brought to the table, thus I never bought a replacement as my original x52 vanilla was still working and STILL works perfectly to this day. Granted it doesnt look its best, but the only thing wrong is the paint has worn away, apart from that, it works the same as the day I got it all those years ago. So they do last, my one has even taken a fair amount of abuse/accidents and it is still A ok. I dont know if the components inside the x52vanilla and pro are any different ? or if one has better components than the other, but if the 52 came out in 2004 as kenan implies, then I have had this particular one for 5 years +, I had my 52 pro for 2-3 months before it died. I wouldnt say either one is better than the other, you get good and bad ones from both sticks, but what I do know is, the vanilla x52 does last, even with a rough hand. EDIT: Just to add, if I was buying a stick from the X52 range today, I wouldnt now, but if i were to buy one, it would be the pro, simply because of the looks, thats the only reason, cuz apart from that they are basically the same function wise, except for the lcd display on the throttle that can display things from a certain flight sim and which turned out to be a really useless feature IMHO. They are indeed very similar, though some key parts have been replaced by metal (for a reason) and also some errors have taken out of the stick. Anyway, everyone has their own experience and in fact it also depends on what kind of flying you do and what you expect from a stick. The choice is up to you Cheezy ;) Forum | Videos | DCS:BS Demo1 / Demo2 | YouTube Channel [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

To be honest, I think the Pro version is just an attempt to refresh the 'franchise' and increase the sales. Doesn't really offer anything groundbreaking. Actually, The Pro's pro's are *it's not as spacey looking as the vanilla, so that in turn is worth a couple of kubits *You get a (TAD) Tactical Awarness Display, which greatest feature shows you what time it is at any given time of the day just by looking at it, the same as the vanilla's (D) Display, but BETTERish. *You get an extra small spring for extra small springiness *You get a choice of button lighting colours for every day of the week, except Wed,Thu,Fri and Sat, to make everyday so much better *did I say its not Silver? *And you only have to pay a sum of money extra to get these benefits, so buy today and don't let me slow you down :joystick: 1 "[51☭] FROSTIE" #55 'Red 5'. TeeJay82 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Had x45 x52 and now x65 The best stick i ever had was the x52pro all the lights on the stick can be disabled through control panel so it doesnt scream for attention. also the slider on the throttle was great for Zoom axis ( miss that on my x65 :( all in all the price vs what you get i think the x52pro is your best choice YOU HEAR THAT SAITEK!!!! I WANT MY SLIDER BACK ON THE X72 :P
shu77 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I got an x-52 Std cheap off ebay recently, it has been an amazing conversion over my evo force, I would say its added about 20% to my effectiveness in the air. The main thing is getting a profile you are comfortable with which takes a little bit of time, but you can start with someone else's (theres a couple good ones on lockon files) and then just play around until you are at a point where you are comfortable. Sarge55 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 The big improvement from the vanilla to the Pro was the added spring to the joystick. I found that the 1st one was to sloppy but the Pro recentered much better which is important particularly with Blackshark. The improvement over the earlier cheezy colour (no offense cheezy) as earlier mentioned was a good move.
