If you mastered DCS A-10C, could you hop into the real thing, run it up, and fly it?

I naively predict that many will either PIO or overrotate (or both) themselves to near death on take-off in A-10C on their first few takeoffs :)

Very interesting.

Much like driving fast in mud or snow or even overcorrecting the tendency of a car to be willing to carheel... If you overcorrect you loose control.

The only sim i saw that had something similar modelled was A10 cuba when you shut off the vertical piloting stabilizator (or a name like that), or got it damaged or it was unable to coop with plane damage. The plane started to oscilate up down, it was tiring to try to control, and eventually something really nasty hapened when you where trying to land, or if you failed to control it in flight.

Well, -you- might not ... :D

A-haa! Now we won't!

sounds very challenging ! but now that we have been warned, it will be even more embarrassing

Lol yeah :)

Would be interesting to have a 'Post your first Track' thread.......Not so much as a 'we told you so': Rather an indication of 'First Hog-Day Blues', preferably with a TS/Vent recording running in the backround to capture the rage/panic attacks.

Who knows - GA might even be able to put together an Epic clip with the footage.....:D

We need a couple of ground-rules:

1 - No study of manual beforehand

2 - Only have regard to Wag's start-up producer's note

3 - Default HOTAS Axis setup

(Should adequately replicate first experience for many testers and attendant chuckles).

# First track with Ramp-Start, taxi to runway and take-off with attendant fire-ball to be posted.

Hey, not completely fair (no manual)! ;)

Please don't tell me I will have to start it up manually. This will effectively exclude me from the competition as I don't plan to learn startup procedure. Ever.

If the cheat startup is allowed I have to know that Hog has already a correct trim settings for takeoff. Also you have to include a specific payload and fuel in the rules.

It's very intuitive - just watch the Producer's note and you'll be ok. That's part of the fun, the first 'touch' of the Hog, so to speak.

Purpose is just to have a benchmark of the start of your journey that you can reflect on in months down the line, akin to your first BS landing (what a mess that was.....) All just good fun! If you over-think things (manual/cheat-start etc etc) it takes the fun out of what is essentially a very daunting task......and as said it replicates the situation of many a tester and the no doubt ensuing mayhem :)

I have not read the entire thread, so I don’t know if anyone mentioned this already or not, but there is a television series called JetStream that covers the Canadian Forces CF-18 pilot training course. It’s about eight or nine episodes long and it’s amazing. That series should give some good in-site into the original question of this thread.

I'll try to watch it before A-10C release. Even though contemporary Discovery ridiculous 0.2-second-cut scenes may induce an epilepsy attack rather than being informative. They even failed to explain such a simple thing as why fighters are design as inherently unstable http://www.discoverychannel.ca/jetstream/#/equipment/3/

Food for thought......

Officials release A-10C accident report

Air Combat Command Public Affairs

9/2/2010 - LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. -- Human factor error caused an A-10C aircraft to depart the runway during an aborted takeoff May 10 at Moody Air Force Base, Ga., according to an Air Combat Command Accident Investigation Board report released Sept. 2.

The aircraft was assigned to the 75th Fighter Squadron from the 23rd Wing at Moody AFB. The pilot sustained minor injuries after ejecting when the aircraft left the runway. The aircraft continued traveling over uneven grassland until the nose gear collapsed. The right main landing gear and aircraft nose became lodged into the ground causing a catastrophic fuselage failure. The aircraft was engulfed in fire due to a ruptured forward main fuel tank and was subsequently destroyed.

According to the report, the cause of the mishap was specifically attributed to the pilot's initial decision not to abort the takeoff. Then, once the decision to abort was made, the pilot applied an inappropriate braking procedure based on his perception of being at a lower airspeed. Additionally, pitot-static system blockage, task misprioritization, distraction and procedural error were all substantially contributing factors to the mishap. The loss associated with the mishap is valued at $17,306,077, including $52,095 in environmental cleanup on Moody AFB.

Sticky a thread. I always dreamed of walking into an F16 mil-spec sim (after practicing with Falcon) and saying, "Alright. Everybody shut up and watch me start-up, take off, put on a little air show, then land."

Default HOTAS was garbage in BS when I installed my g940. Throttle was mapped to the cyclic commands, as was the rudder. I can assure you I will PIO to death with default if its similar in WH.

That said, I accept the challenge. I will just have the PN running on my other monitor to follow.

What I can't read the manual first?:book::( If a concession were made for that, I'd post a track. Should be interesting, because I'm not going to fly until my simpit is done. That's gonna take a while though, my design isn't even complete.:(

Umm, unless you are just making a pit shaped sim desk, you will not be flying for a few years. I doubt you can wait that long. That is something I would like though. Just a desk with my controls at my sides in correct location. Then I would be a bit more happy.

I'm going all the way, including the tub and curved screens. And I'm going to sell them.:music_whistling: But more details on that later, I need to design things first.

Well, I'm aware that cost is a major issue for some people, so I am going to make "kits" of sorts. Not the whole pit, but say, the upfront control panel and the CDU, for example. Or just the CDU. All the way up to the entire tub, panels, and a working HUD that has yet to be designed. I'm also going to make individual instruments. Mechanical ones, not screens:D. It's gonna be a lot of work, but as haws been said before, if you want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.:pilotfly:
