Hansolo Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 HMA, MacFevre, what kind of material do you use for the skin of the shell. I mean left and right for the big surface? Hans, are you german? I used the same kind of material as MacFevre, and no I am Danish :-) Cheers Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
MacFevre Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Mac thansk for the additional pictures . Its great to hear your recovery is going well . Forgot to say thank you DM. Means a lot to me. Truly. Only two more surgeries scheduled for the future, but should be back to pit building in a few days! (Getting frustrated with wife forcing me to do what the Dr. says to recover.) Deadman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 I am reworking the AN/ARC 186 radio control head changing it from analogue to a digital set up with LED displays. In doing this I am all changing it from a cast alumin base to a flat back plate as other panels have I want to keep the same exterior dimensions . I would like to know if any one has found inexpensive rotary encoders with detents and a 3mm/ 1/8 inch shaft? with out these the panel will not stay the same as original size. Thanks https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.

Thanks Hi DM, I found these http://dk.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Bourns/3315R-001-016L/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvy8cVzszrmR%2fYUxXVtdLiLefIDEz30CY8%3d They are however incrementing encoders. I guess you want absolute encoders? Maybe this http://dk.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ALPS/EC18AGA20402/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMvy8cVzszrmR7byzDGnfgEpOmbCLaueOcs%3d I guess it would be better if it was only 10 detent (0-9) but this is unfortunately 12 detents. Will search further:-) Cheers Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
Deadman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 HMA thanks I have no idea just looking for encoder with detente not sure on the other tec spec small enuff to fit in the real panel https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
cefs Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 Not seen too many encoders with a 3mm shaft, grayhill do some reasonably priced rotary switches with adjustable stops with that size shaft, would have thought the originals would have been rotary switches, and if they were and its a matter of i/o pins then a port expander chip could solve that problem.
agrasyuk Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 GrayHill 26th series IMHO, the 16 detent model. Or a 10 position 5X sieries switches, will require much more pins. Grayhills can cost quite more then inexpencive though. If cost is the main requirement perhaps cheap China encoders can be used with .25 to .125 inch shaft reducers. Not sure if such reducers are sold anywhere , but I was planning to turn some for own use. Absolute encoders will require more input pins then incremental. Everything else (bcd, binary or incremental) should not matter as it will be accounted in software . Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
Hansolo Posted June 28, 2015 Posted June 28, 2015 DM, now that I got think about it I have these purchased for my TACAN 10 positions: http://dk.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=FR01AC10PB-Svirtualkey63300000virtualkey633-FR01AC10PB-S 16 positions: http://dk.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=FR01AC16PB-Svirtualkey63300000virtualkey633-FR01AC16PB-S The size is actually quite nice. Just never got around to use it yet :-) Cheers Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
Deadman Posted June 28, 2015 Author Posted June 28, 2015 HMA those may be a possibility depending on what the electronic guys think shaft size is about right. I may take a closer look at the Simulated AN/ARC 186s I have and see what they have . @ agrasyuk thanks for the though but Gray hills are probably to expensive for most to use. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Warhog Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Ky, what is the issue with the regular encoders we use ...is it the width of the body in that you cannot fit them side by side or is it something else? Deadman Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 the 6 mm or 1/4 inch shaft is to big for the channel knobs is the first thing. I have not checked on the body size https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
7rooper Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 the 6 mm or 1/4 inch shaft is to big for the channel knobs is the first thing. I have not checked on the body size So you're looking for suitable encoders to be used as thumbwheels in the IFF panel and others? If so, do you plan on using 7-SEG displays to show the channel numbers or engrave these numbers on the wheel? I'm facing the same problem and got to think a way to implement these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/140916198633 My rig specs: Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR
Deadman Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 (edited) Hum no I would not spend the extra money to build an IFF panel that unit has been used world wide. For the TISLE Panel you might be able to use those that you talking about. We are talking about rotary encoders for the Chanel selector on the AN/ARC 186 radio control head. Deadman Posted August 15, 2015 Author Posted August 15, 2015 I just down loaded the file there were 4 Cert of trust and no STL so I sent him a note. https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
grmrepr0 Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Apparently windows (at least win 7) thinks that they are a certificate file but they are not. They can be opened with a STL viewer from the net (http://www.viewstl.com/). I would also assume that opening them in a STL viewer on your hard drive would work if you specifically tell windows to use that program instead of the default it thinks is right.

Deadman Posted August 27, 2015 Author Posted August 27, 2015 (edited) I met with the metal cutting company they can do the left and right consoles the center pedestal. I need to make some file changes and change a material thickness. The glare shield needs a rework it can not be bent as it is now. Guys post if your intrested in these they would be half the cost of the EU builder Edited August 27, 2015 by Deadman https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
