MadDogMcQ Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 I'll settle for not letting it rest long enough to gather much dust in the first place, and a can of compressed air, than make any such aftermarket adjustments to the switches - but that's just me :) Sounds like a plan! PC SPECS : * Intel i7 920 @ 4Ghz | P6T Deluxe V2 | 32Gb DDR RAM | GTX 1070i OC 8 Gb | H50 Water Cooler | Velociraptor 150Gb | Samsung SATA II 1Tb and Samsung 860PRO 512| Prolite 1080p 24" | Logitech G-19 | TM Twin MFD's | TM Warthog | TIR 5 (soon) | Windows 7/64 | My PC | My Blog | My Bikes
Succellus Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 . wont work. IMHO not very pretty either. but if you insist, you first. lmk how that works out for you! Er why wouldn t it work ? Would be gentle to explain. (i never done it) I know it wont win a beauty contest, but black silicon wouldn t let it that bad. The can sounds like a plan but it treats the consequences not the origin. Aside from the fact that air can dont clean all the dust and the one that stay is the one that will create rust from the humidity of the compressed air. Can't say I'm surprised, being an owner of a Cougar and all. What is wrong with everybody? These kind of comments infuriate me  THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SWITCHES. I am an electronics engineer and I've worked on aircraft for many years. The switches on the Warthog are better than those on some aircraft I've worked on!! The so called 'covers' everyone is talking about are not even 'covers'. They are a 3-way, spring-loaded switch that, by design, requires an enclosed part around the top of the switch. The 2-way toggle switches are 'open' by design. They will be like this on any real aircraft. Jeez! Please don't bother commenting on the perceved quality of the Warthog if you A) don't own one, or B) haven't even seen one. Rant over... 3
Succellus Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Crahed would you have sprung out of your box before, you wouldn t have to have a stroke now... People were only guessing why, and where willing to find a way to close a possible way to damage to their new, not cheap, hardware. Assuming that you are right, it was for nothing at all. Now i would bet a cockpited switch gather way less dust than a desk switch, since the cockpit pass 99% of its lifetime closed, but then i may be lacking knowledge of dust sources inside a cockpit. MadDogMcQ Posted November 5, 2010 Author Posted November 5, 2010 I agree - there's no shoddy workmanship in sight here - just a difference in appearance between the two switch-types. From an aesthetics point of view, it looks odd, but like I said in the first post, it's no big deal. Apologies, I didn't mean to come across angry. This wasn't aimed at you Succulus  Everybody is welcome to their own view and comments. I have no problem with that. It just winds me up when people say 'Oh, I had a Cougar so it's bound to be cr@p'. Or, 'the usual rubbish from Thrustmaster'. These are comments from clearly predjudist people who shouldn't make such bold statements without any knowledge ;) It is an excellent product. When people first see something like that pictured (without having the explanation), it is normal for some to perceive poorer quality. I was not saying it IS shoddy workmanship, I said it looks like shoddy workmanship. Many people who bought TM Cougars experienced not so favorable results from a relatively expensive product. It is normal to perceive future TM product quality as questionable based on prior experiences with the same company. If you bought a pickup that did not perform how it should without modifications, would you run right out and by the next model without question? I would hope not. Echonomix Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I don't see why you would want to put covers on the switches. How could dust be that big of a problem? Use compressed air if you are worried about dust, or better yet, cover the entire unit when you won't use it.
