I can´t understand why ED continues with starforce, or activations.

Again reading problems of legal users, people who buy and having problems with this way of protect the sim.

Why no steam? why no other like ROF.

Look FC2 and BS, you can find it ilegal...

At the end, the problems are for the legal user, for the people we pay i don´t understand.

Greetings

no steam for me thanks - tired of its bloatware sitting in the background and taking ages for it to start, decide if it wants to update...

more importantly, when steam decides it cannot connect to its servers so my games are held hostage like i'm the pirater until it sorts itself out

if DCS was only available on steam, i wouldn't have bought it

Current implementation of SF I believe is no client/drivers on your PC. You get 10 activations in total with each activation replenished after x months. So theoretically you will never run out unless it's installed by every tom dick and harry :D

Pretty sure I read here somewhere that's how it now works.

With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.

A-10C will have a different starfore activation type. You can read about it here.

The idea is good (self-replenishing activations), the only problem I see, is that if you will loose your activation due to some hardware related problems, you must wait until a new activation gets generated before you can install again.

Yes but there is solution - it should renew if you have example only 2 or 1 left.

When was the last time you used Steam? If you last used it at release then yes I understand it was rubbish - but now? Now there is little need not to use it.

when playing FPS games up until a couple of months ago. Much rather have DVDs/independent download and play when i want to play. Maybe their service is better in some regions compared to others?

oh yes, forgot to mention steams habit of borking patches for their customers. the same patches that others who have the game outside of steam have no problems with. feel sorry for those users getting stranded

anyway, didnt come here to rant anti-steam infinitum...genuine question: have there been many problems with starforce with A10c so far ? i will do some hunting...

Perhaps you are right. Personally I do prefer not having to store DVDs etc - and I quite like the auto patching, but I have to admit I have been lucky in that I have not had any of the issues that some people tend to report.

Plus, you can't beat Steam's sales :P

For games such as ArmA2 etc, I purchased them on DVD. There are some games that I prefer having a disk for - for everything else there is Steam :)

I use steam only for one reason, nice offers in their shop. For everything else, the prices are much too high.

Also, when I want to play, I want to play, instead of starting steam to see, that the game I want to play has to download a 1.8 gig update first.

Also some games (Cities XL e.g.) have problems with the interface overlay. In Cities XL the Shift-Tab key doesn't work, so I always have that steam UI box in my view (unless I deactivate it completely via steam)

Additionally, I don't know what happens when steam stops his service. What happens with the games I bought?

No, there are a LOT of reasons not to use steam ;)

Are you sure? I mean this is a solution indeed (I suggested it myself) but do you know for sure if starfore is going to use it?

From the

FAQ

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=56699

Q: Will DCS: A-10C use copy protection?

A: A: Yes, it will use the new userfriendly StarForce ProActive AAA Technology.

You will no longer have a fixed number of activations, but in an effort to prevent piracy the system does limit the number of activations per month. Your DCS A-10C serial number will initially have 8 activations and when they all are spent, 1 activation is added automatically once per 31 days (effectively "refilling" your serial number).

StarForce ProActive AAA Technology does not install any drivers on your PC. It works as an integrated part of the DCS files but has no special priviliges in your system.
